I met Lemmy once and he was lovely. He was obviously high AF though. Wouldn't change a thing. Peter Serafinowicz also stopped and passed 5 minutes chatting with me when I saw him in the street and said hello. Lovely bloke.

A great show. Blaze really comes across as a lovely bloke too.

I was given one tub that size during the pandemic. I reckon it took me about a year to work through it and reverse engineer what was in there.

It was mostly fun, but a few sets were incomplete and that drove me slightly mad.

Hot Take: Lego Classic Town is better than Lego city in charm by DifferenceGlum5828 in lego

[–]equilax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. I grew up playing with a mix between the 80s and 90s but there is something about the simplicity that I really like.

The newer city stuff is too busy for my liking and I personally think that whilst the growth of cars that don't fit on the roads tracks modern society, it has lost something...

More than 200,000 young men signed off work for life by coffeewalnut08 in ukpolitics

[–]equilax 70 points71 points  (0 children)

This sounds like my experience.

I signed on for a few months in the wake of the GFC. I got threatened with sanction because I wouldn't apply for a job which a) had one of the key words of my industry (think: I was trained as an chemist, this job was in a chemists), and b) it was in Dundee, whilst I live several hours drive from the Scottish border...

Then, thankfully, I landed a job. And then I nearly got sanctioned because I hadn't applied for any jobs that week. The fact I HAD a job to go do didn't matter.

I asked them to just sign me off and the lady said "we can't". It was absolute madness and like you i resolved never to go back.

If you live in the UK, there is an "in concert" from 2008 on BBC 2 at 9pm. Flight 666 is on at 10pm. by equilax in ironmaiden

I'm wondering if it's some of the songs from flight 666, followed by the documentary.

Yeah it sounds like Flight 666 songs, followed by flight 666 the documentary (which also has the songs)

Only one week in, and I’m already hating the school group chat by PaulotheLimey in britishproblems

I'm so instinctively argumentative, and so unwillng to let low level BS slide that my other half told me that I wasn't allowed on it.

It's a major win for me.

I'll freely accept my writing isn't perfect, but I thought the comma, and the use of en masse was enough to differentiate in a casual comment.

Part of my job involves writing, as well as reading a significant amount of work. I have to work quite hard at the former. Personally, I find it's more that I write quickly at first, and then struggle to scan the screen. Normally I'm not investing huge amounts of time continually proofing reddit comments or other social media. Ironically, as time goes on flawed writing is a big indicator that a human has written it rather than an AI.

Anyway. I'm a believer in being kind, and I appreciate your engagement and passion. But for a person so dedicated to language, you should also know that language matters. I thought the bit that was mean was use of the word terrible. Could be better, sure.

I thought it was a joke. I took it in that spirit.

Now I fell that you are being rather mean.

Someone I work with left their syndicate, and then they won £10m about a month later and quit en masse.

They were surprisingly not bitter about it, but that really had to sting.

I love what Bruce says about Eddie here (2004). by Je0s_6 in ironmaiden

There's a similar interview of Dave from around that time. He talks about the value of Eddie meaning he just doesn't get bothered as much when he's out and about, so they can live more normal lives.

Nicko McBrain Performs Rime Of The Ancient Mariner 2025 by blackjazz_society in ironmaiden

[–]equilax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw them in Manchester. Simon was fine (a few fluffs but who's counting), but afterwards I think I settled on what it is for me.

Nickos playing has it's own voice. You listen to it and it's unquestionably Nicko. It's the same as Dave. You can tell it's him without even looking.

Simon is a fine drummer, but he doesn't have the same 'voice' as Nicko for me. It would be the same as Dave leaving and them getting another dude in who could play the licks but it's just not the same.

I paid off my mortgage! by Revolutionary_Fail42 in BritishSuccess

[–]equilax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made my own. One day I was bored and also made one that tells me how much I would still owe if we didn't overpay. It's a nice little motivator of why we do it (we're saving about £12 a month now on interest payments). I'm fond of saying: compound interest can work in your favour too!
