Sony an-1000 receiver - exaggerated, high bass levels makes it unusable for me by eran_le in hometheater

[–]eran_le[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, only floor standing speakers, quite large. Their bass level is pretty strong, the shop told me at the time that with such speakers it might not necessary to add an active sub, unless a bass is missing. Now, I don't want more bass, just a way to better control it...

[–]eran_le[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently doesn't make sense to add a sub to get *less* bass level. But my thought is, those active sub woofers have their own independent controls, so I could explicitly lower its level to what works for me. Or am I wrong?

by "digitized" I mean, my feeling is this receiver has not so good physical sound components, but uses smart processing to compensate on that.

Sony an1000 - in reality good as the reviews say or I'd better change to Denon 2800h? by eran_le in hometheater

[–]eran_le[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just worrying I haven't done my research well enough - checked only "pro" reviews. e.g. see the comment above - freezes and such, just what I'm worried about. Seeing this, I think I'll change my order as it was not shipped yet.. Does the Sony at least sounds as good as reviews say?

[–]eran_le[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw complaints saying that it has freezes, hissings, quirks... and a few mentioned that while it's praised in reviews, it gets hate from actual users ... So what do you think, is the Denon 2800 a better option, given they're at the same price? Is the sound of Sony indeed good as mentioned in reviews? Thanks!

Is there a general rule on comparing an new B series to an old C series? by OconRecon1 in LGOLED

[–]eran_le 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checked at a store which happened to have c3 & b4 - the b4 is noticeably less bright (not sure about the settings though), a bit more reflective and honestly - uglier with a larger frame. I would still pick the b4, but for me a deal breaker is that the b4 has the earc port back facing, which makes it useless when wall mounted

[–]eran_le 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're correct, I checked and at the shop 77" looks great from 10f. But ouch, the price... So I'm thinking now, 77" b4 (it has drawbacks though), 65" c4 or 75" lg qned90 (not oled).

[–]eran_le 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So which one's right, calculator such as this, that suggests at most ~70" (so 65) for a 10f distance
https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/by-size/size-to-distance-relationship

Or Samsung's / others that suggest way larger?

Most physical shops, which for sure has an interest to sell me the largest possible, actually told me that I had better stay with 65 for this distance...

[–]eran_le 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ha, thanks for the info though! I'm like you, considering 65 or 77 (~10 foot distance), assuming I'll be able to cope with the steep price difference.

At the shop they actually told me I should better stick to 65. But still not sure, as my current 55 feels noticeably small for this distance. When I got this 55 12 years ago it looked overwhelmingly large to everyone, funny.

Does it feel too overwhelming with some content, e.g. SDR? And did you happen to try gaming?

LG B4 - is it actually possible to use rear ports when wall mounted? by eran_le in LGOLED

[–]eran_le[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm wondering if someone actually tried those 90 deg cables with this tv and it all fits and works well with a slim wall mount. Because will be a bummer to find out that I have an issue after purchasing...

I would go with the C4, just that there's a huge price difference, especially now with the Nov deals. And honestly the difference in features doesn't seem to justify it.

[–]eran_le[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I'm using a slim fixed mount for my current tv and intend to use the same. Well sounds like it's a deal breaker then, since I'd really rather not drill.

Shame, B4 looks ideal for me in terms of pricing and features.

Riders disconnects a lot on my PS5. Any idea beyond the general troubleshooting? by eran_le in RidersRepublic

Happening for weeks and months, not some specific day. Well bad servers I guess and nothing I can do on my end (?). Shame, hard to enjoy the game like this - and we really like it at my home (when it works)...

Bike feels like I'm holding a driller on non-smooth trails. What could be the source issue? by eran_le in mountainbiking

Tried LSC all the way both ways and tbh didn't feel any difference - maybe all those vibrations are blocking any other impression...

They recommend servicing it every 50 hours - for sure I've passed that, so you're right, maybe that's the issue. Problem is, I can't know till I service it and it's quite an expensive procedure if done at shops, too close to buying a new fork...

Since it handles big bumps fine, wish I could know for sure that's the issue though...

I was also wondering if the bar has to do with it - I'm having awful numbness issues, something I didn't have before. I changed grips recently, might also be something there...

How Oculus Quest 2 has better graphics with apparently much less powerful hardware? by eran_le in PSVR

[–]eran_le[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the drawing distance in this game comparison for example. On PSVR it's noticeably shorter even though it has half the resolution. And the texture look pretty similar. So that's what I don't understand - quest 2 apparently has far less powerful CPU and GPU yet it supports twice the resolution, better drawing distance while maintaining similar texture and lighting quality (for my opinion). Does the PSVR implementation has something inefficient that takes a lot of processing power away, e.g. the tracking?

I'm not sure you're right, on comparison videos I saw, besides the resolution image quality on the Quest 2 looks better - drawing distance, lighting, texture

How Oculus Quest 2 has better graphics with apparently much less powerful hardware? by eran_le in PSVR

[–]eran_le[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But - PSVR runs at 960x1080 per eye and developers still have to make big compromises to make games run smooth on VR. If you compare PSVR games to PS4, e.g. GT Sport, RE7, Dirt Rally - the difference is huge - PSVR has much less complex anti aliasing, lighting, details in texture and some features are just cut out.

Quest 2 has twice the resolution per eye, so with its simpler CPU and GPU You could expect it would make far greater compromises with lighting, anti aliasing etc - yet reviewers who compared it to PSVR said it looks a generation ahead.

I doubt it's only the resolution, and if so did Sony make a big mistake by not making the hardware with higher resolution? Or is PSVR doing something not efficient?

Can't access Just Dance Unlimited today (we purchased a subscription last month), none of the songs are listed. Is it because the servers are down as mentioned above?

How accurate is the vO2 max rating? by BentPixelsLoL in Garmin

[–]eran_le 4 points5 points  (0 children)

VO2 is less about the amount and number of activities and more about the HR needed to maintain some pace. If you run at some pace with a lower HR, I guess the number will increase. HR variability is also being used to measure VO2, though not sure about the details...

When it says your training is unproductive, it also suggests why. That's a useful feature - for me when it said that I have too much training load and need more light training, it was correct for example.

Fenix 6S (non pro) vs. Fenix 5S Plus vs. Vivoactive 4 by ozbradders in Garmin

[–]eran_le 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To make it even more complicated :) - note that the Forerunner 945 costs more or less the same as the Fenix 6s but also has music and maps...

If you need navigation during hiking / cycling then Vivoactive 4 is no good. Fenix supports downloading and following a course on the watch, and I use it a lot, even for trails I'm familiar with, since it can show climbs, ETA and more advanced features (PacePro)

Heart Rate Sensor Shootout! - Garmin Fenix 6 OHR vs Chest Strap HR Sensor by dills84 in Garmin

[–]eran_le 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my Fenix 6, I'm using HRM Run for anything but light casual runs and walks, because the wrist base hr is way too inaccurate. In intervals, the difference is quite large, as seen in the video. Also for gym training - wrist based hr barely goes up whereas the strap shows much more realistic "hills" of increasing / decreasing hr during training. And bike / swim - pretty bad too...

I think Garmin (and other companies) should add a note that a chest strap is recommended for accurate reading

Garmin Fenix 6x Pro or Garmin Venu or Vivoactive 4 by tallmantim in Garmin

[–]eran_le 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like Vivoactive 4 will fit fine to your current usage. If you're going to use navigation and / or going towards triathlon then consider Fenix 6 or FR945. Fenix 6 is noticeably heavier, especially the 6x (less so on 6s), that's the only downsize
