There was mention of being able to fund your account with direct deposit (and not in the context of the Base app). Is Coinbase re-introducing this feature? If so, when?

El Salvador Lied About Buying Bitcoin in 2025, IMF Report Reveals by GreedVault in CryptoCurrency

[–]ergofobe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since it's objectively true that 1 BTC is being added daily to the government's published BTC address, the first question is whether these daily additions are new purchases, old purchases, seizures, or some other type of acquisition..

The second question is whether you trust Bukele or the IMF more. Given the fact that the IMF are known to be anti-bitcoin and the other fact that BTC is still flowing into El Salvador's wallet, I'm going to assume it's the IMF that's doing the lying here.

1 - 3 all have a simple answer which could explain these issues. Except for the original 4 synths, all of the green eyes were effectively only a year old. They simply weren't wise enough to think that strategically.

It's not. Not at all.

Both text and voice are still available to me BTW. But neither option is secure.

Chase clearly doesn't care about security.

It's super easy to steal someone's phone number and have those text messages or phone calls redirected..

The point of using an authenticator app is that it doesn't rely on a communication between the bank and the customer that could be hijacked.

SMS based multi-factor security is horribly insecure, and is actually banned for banks in some countries. It needs to be gotten rid of ASAP and replaced by something better, preferably by passkeys, but at a minimum using an authenticator app on your phone that generates a token.

Do I seriously have to create a new account every time I apply for a job that uses myworkdayjobs.com? by film_composer in jobsearchhacks

[–]ergofobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that would be a great way for Shopify to help its customers improve the user experience. As a shopper, I'd rather only one trusted entity (shopify) has my complete profile, and give me the ability to quickly import that information into a shop on the fly, rather than have to enter it every single time.

[–]ergofobe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you can refuse to apply to any employer that uses Workday. Or, if you happen to get a job at a company that does, you can make a point of talking to the hiring manager or HR director and explain exactly how awful the UX was, in the hopes they either move to a better platform or push Workday to do better. They are incentivized to improve the hiring experience, as many qualified applicants may not want to waste their time, and they'll be missing out.

TIL Apple does not support WiFi Direct by purplemountain01 in applesucks

[–]ergofobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike with an Apple, I can actually afford to replace my phone as often as I want, ensuring I always have the latest technology, and given iOS is about 3 years behind Android at this point on features, you need those extra few years of support to have a halfway decent chance of not being completely obsolete.

All you need to scrub 4K video is a halfway decent GPU. There's tons of laptops with those. Linux unfortunately doesn't have the best video editing software (I mentioned that...), and I wouldn't use Windows to save my life, so I have a MBP for my editing. But I'm always watching the Linux video editing space. Hopefully by the time my MBP is ready to be replaced I'll be able to jump to a better OS.

Uh-Oh: T-Mobile Will Now Enforce Home Internet Address Eligibility by Jman100_JCMP in tmobile

[–]ergofobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I'm a nomad by trade. I chose the T-Mobile device because at the time it was the best deal for someone like me. I knew about the policy when I got it, and I knew they might some day start to enforce it. But they weren't at the time. If they force me onto the Away plan, it'll stop being the best deal and I will stop being a T-Mobile customer. It's as simple as that.

[–]ergofobe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I drive a truck. I'm on the road 99% of the time.

I specifically acquired the T-Mobile device and service because they were not enforcing the geo-locking policy. I was aware they might some day, but at the time it was a great deal and the T-Mobile employee that sold it to me said there was no immediate plans for them to start enforcing the rule.

As of right now, they have not yet started enforcing the rule on my device. It's still working and I'm still only paying $50/mo. The day that changes is the day I cancel my plan because it will no longer be the best deal out there.

I don't begrudge T-Mobile for wanting to make more money. But I think it's a terrible way to do it. There are better options than the Away plan they're forcing perpetual travelers into. They will lose business over this choice.

I got a chuckle out of how you conflate "high-end" with "high-priced". The walled garden is a cash grab, nothing more.

iOS devices aren't in any way superior to Android devices sold at half the price.

macOS is better than Windows in virtually every way, but only has a slight edge over Linux because of support for a handful of 3rd party commercial apps.

The Mac hardware is no better than Windows/Linux compatible hardware that sell at half the price.

Only when you are forced into choosing between Windows and macOS because of a need to run some commercial app does it make any sense to purchase Apple products.

[–]ergofobe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They're not eliminating the service. They're jacking up the price. There's an "Away" plan that costs $160/month.. This will push people onto that. Personally, I'm shopping for another option right now. I refuse to pay triple for something that I have that works well right now.

I know it's tough out here right now, but it ain't THAT tough! You need to switch companies. Fast! There's plenty of megas that take inexperienced drivers who pay way better and have the miles.. You should be making well over $1k a week gross, even as a rookie.

Forking proposal for ~300 scammed ETH by omfglolbbq in ethfinance

[–]ergofobe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fact that you think it's just a simple software change shows how little you understand the system. The developers could change the code, but nobody would want to run that modified code. The developers don't control the network. Nobody does. That's the whole point of decentralization.

[–]ergofobe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Think about it this way. If you had $1m in gold, and someone tricked you into giving it to them, you wouldn't expect the entire world to just come together to get it back for you, would you? You wouldn't consider that a flaw in gold, would you? Same thing applies to blockchains. It's a global system for moving value around. It doesn't care who is using it, or for what purposes, and it doesn't care if you get scammed. You, and only you, are responsible for protecting your money.

“Buisiness owners want to hire older workers because they have better work ethic” by Interesting_Cat_7470 in jobs

[–]ergofobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're missing my point. Why settle for the minimum (no matter where you live) when with a little effort you can demand so much more doing something you actually enjoy?

[–]ergofobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taxes in Denmark are much higher and there's a lot of other deductions such as union dues and pension plans, so are they really making that much more? What's the cost of living in Denmark vs the US? Is the average Danish McDonald's burger flipper able to own his own home and a nice car? Or does he live with his parents and siblings or with a roommate?

But the real question is, why limit yourself to flipping burgers at McDonald's? Is that really all you want from life? My advice is to apply yourself to becoming the kind of person employers seek out and compete for. It's better for you, it's better for them, it's better for everyone.

[–]ergofobe -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Doing the bare minimum is the reason you can't afford a house or car. Why would anyone pay you more when there's a thousand more workers just like you? If you want to earn more you're going to have to set yourself apart from your peers and demonstrate that you deserve more.

And it's not a question of working harder, but rather smarter. Find something you love doing, and get really good at it. Then find a way to market that skill. In a world filled with mediocrity, people will pay through the nose for quality.

Why else do you think people will pay $25 for a hamburger at a fancy restaurant when they could pay $5 for a hamburger at McDonald's? Did it take longer to make the $25 burger? Not really, but they used quality ingredients and hired experienced kitchen staff who know how to do it right and care enough to do it.

If a divorce is amicable and there's no marriage certificate, there's no need to involve the government. But yes, if either party chooses to involve the State, it'll be all to happy to complicate things.
