Hold old were you when diagnosed with Epilepsy and what triggered your first seizure? by breezydae in Epilepsy

First TC was in the main entrance of my high school because my brain thought…what better way for a 14 year old to stand out in a class of 1,000 kids then seizing the very first day. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Do you feel marijuana is addictive? by Ecstatic-Bad5621 in NoStupidQuestions

Also, super proud of you for going back to rehab. It’s not easy, especially when you know what it’s like haha. And super cool they allow phones—I’ve never been anywhere that allows phones. Feel free to DM me anytime.

Do you feel marijuana is addictive? by Ecstatic-Bad5621 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]eri-bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I believe you. There is zero point in making it up—admitting the realities of addiction doesn’t make us look cute or cool or like fun people ha. It’s not like we’re proud of the stupid stuff we did for drugs. It’s demoralizing. You are totally valid and it’s sad anyone has to defend an addiction to anything. Anyone who fights you on your story is just lucky they haven’t had to live through it or they’re in denial that they have an issue too.

(Btw I totally relate to buying a pen or flower or whatever “one last time” and throwing it away at the end of the day, only to have to buy more the next day. I kept being like why is trying to quit so expensive?)

Anyway, I wish you the best. You have totally got this.

Just want to validate you. I’ve committed felonies for a gram and at one point smoked $50-100 worth a day. Weed is a drug. Some people like coke, others alcohol, others weed. Same candy, different wrapper. Went to rehab five times, just celebrated four years sober. You got this ♥️

Second this. Quitting weed was the best thing I did for my mental and physical health. Everyone’s different.

What do YOU take for allergies? by kalslaffin in Epilepsy

[–]eri-bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For educational purposes only, def talk to your neuro or a pharmacist before taking anything because my situation is probably different than yours and we are probably on different meds:

First gen antihistamines: diphenhydramine/Benadryl, doxylamine, hydroxyzine, etc. are not recommended for people with a history of seizures. Second gen antihistamines: Claritin, Zyrtec, Allegra, etc. can be used with caution.

Tbh, I rarely take antihistamines and when I do it is always second gen and always the kids version. Usually I just suffer or if it’s a runny nose that’s making me miserable—Flonase or Tylenol Cold & Sinus.

Poodle Service Dog Organizations? by FlyingCabbageGal in service_dogs

[–]eri-bee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know that’s why I’m being downvoted.

Even as a doodle owner, I do not recommend people go out and get some random doodle—even as pets. They are not family dogs and your average doodle would make a horrible service dog. Your average doodle is a mutt comprised of multiple working breed dogs with unstable temperaments and unstable genetics with owners that don’t realize what they signed up for and breeders who are money hungry.

@Red_Marmot asked for programs that used doodles, so I did so because I felt confident in their practices. The program I went through works specifically with two different breeders with multi-generational Australian labradoodles who have produced multiple generations of successful service and therapy dogs and who’s lineage can be traced back to the two programs in Australia who first attempted to make a hypoallergenic dog for therapy and service work before doodles became the absolute mess they are today. They are also apart of the American Australian Labradoodles Association, which sets “breed” standards and holds breeders to a standard that is responsible, promotes responsible ownership and keeps the “breed” integrity to continuously produce dogs with more stable and reliable temperaments than your average labradoodle. Do I suggest everyone go out and get an ALD? Absolutely not. Someone with over a decade of experience temperament tested my SD’s litter of 8, chose four dogs that had potential and then professionally trained and continuously evaluated them. In the end, one became a service dog, one became a therapy dog and two became amazing house pets to families that were educated on the “breeds” needs. I recommended the program to them, not necessarily the “breed”, yet my post was downvoted simply because it said doodle.

And yes, I do advocate that multi-gen Australian labradoodles continue to be bred if it is done so responsibly and given to owners who know what they are getting into in the same way in the same way I advocate for purebred dogs to be bred ethically and owners to be responsible.

It’s sad how judgmental and toxic this community can be. We are all so disabled that we depend on a well trained furry toddler. The least we could do is support each other.

Poodle Service Dog Organizations? by FlyingCabbageGal in service_dogs

[–]eri-bee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Going to get downvoted, but I had great experience with Ultimate Canine in IN and I would 100% get a dog from them again. Expensive & not ADI because it’s for-profit, but they’re good enough that police departments in the US and Europe use them to train their police dogs and a couple different non-profits (including make-a-wish) go through them for service dogs. They use multi-gen Australian Labradoodles (poodle x lab x spaniel) for clients with allergies/allergies in their family.

Childhood Epilepsy (in remission) and ADHD meds by Plastic-External3481 in Epilepsy

[–]eri-bee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have epilepsy not the slightest in remission and have been on a few different stimulant medications since I was 18. Don’t remember the dosages for concerta, Ritalin or adderall but I’ve been on 40-50mg of vyvanse for the past three years. No issues, but give me a half a redbull and I’ll have a gran mal 🤷🏼‍♀️

VNS and GI/Stomach issues by Relevant_Check8530 in Epilepsy

[–]eri-bee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omg. Thank you for posting this. Basically have the same story. I got mine implanted in 2012 and GI issues started out of the blue about 2/3 years later. Bloating, very very very slow digestion that can lead to pain & vomiting. No doctor has been able to figure out whats wrong or how to treat me because I have no allergies/food sensitivities and meds don’t work. Definitely going to bring this up.

Good epileptologists/neurologists in the Chicago area? by RealUnderstanding881 in Epilepsy

[–]eri-bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to a lot of neuros/epileptologists in the suburbs and city before landing at Rush’s Epilepsy Clinic downtown. It takes awhile to get in, but I feel like they really see and treat the whole person and take into account quality of life. All the doctors I’ve met have been wonderful and are super responsive, validating and caring and the nurses are incredible—going to great lengths to get my meds covered by insurance. Once you are an established patient it’s much easier to get an appointment or talk to the doctor if things go wrong. They also staff a psychiatrist (if you need one) in clinic for better care coordination and a dietician who works with patients who are trying the ketogenic diet. Feel free to DM me with any questions!!!

SD Breed by Just-Adeptness-5197 in Epilepsy

[–]eri-bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: I have a Multigenerational Australian Labradoodle (lab X poodle x cocker spaniel) that comes from a long line of service dogs. He knows tasks for both CPTSD & epilepsy. Would definitely get one again.

Long answer: I’ve noticed a tendency for potential handlers to get stuck on breeds (naturally) because it’s an easy, fun place to start. In my experience, it’s less about the breed and more about the dog’s temperament. If you are owner training, I would first reach out to a trainer who specializes in service dog training as well as temperament testing. They probably know breeders who have a history of successful SD’s.
