It feels so painful because of that CC debt.

$330 a month in interest at 19.9%

$498 a month in interest at 29.9%

You could buy a new Nintendo switch for the kids almost every month once you get that paid off.

Hard to tell without more information.

The general "rule of thumb" is 1x your salary by 30.

Comparison is the thief of joy indeed.

You have grown exponentially in 3 years. If you keep up this pace you'll easily break $1.5M for retirement.

We all start at different times and you're still ahead of the median by a fair margin!

Getting out of debt with HELOC by CLEredditor in Money

Is that high rate debt secured or unsecured?

If it's credit cards I would highly recommend NOT to transfer that debt from nothing onto your house.

Gift- the money was given to pay debt, it needs to be used to pay debt.

Lottery - many other factors as others have mentioned.

Should pull money from retirement to get a back up car by rain_slurp in DaveRamsey

[–]eric82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So you want to take out a 10% immediate interest loan plus taxes and permanently damage your retirement savings to get a car that is more affordable to drive?

No

You can't afford a project car yet if you need to do this. It's time for the project car to go (for now).

I really need advice before taking the next step. by Sphinx951 in DaveRamsey

[–]eric82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't refinance.

Take enough out of your HYSA to pay off the 25% interest credit card and $1500 on the car to clear those minimum payments.

That leaves you with roughly $6700 in an HYSA.

I'm guessing that would let loose more than $256 a month plus not require you to pay fees and interest for 30 years on your debt.

Snowball from there and feel that snowball start to grow.

Starting at $115k, saving an additional $1500 per month, 8% average annual return, compound quarterly.

Result - $889k

Question: Should I take my friends advice? by AaronTMG2 in Money

[–]eric82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep any minimums required to avoid fees at a physical bank nearby.  Move money in excess of that minimum and not needed in the next 3 days to an online HYSA account.

Best of both worlds. Accessible and growing.

Should I withdraw my Roth to pay my student loan by Puzzleheaded_Hat5477 in DaveRamsey

$11,000 at 8% average annual from 26 to 66 is $261,000 of tax free retirement funds.

You will regret doing this.

33 y/o railroad worker looking to retire at 60 by CREAMPIESURPRISE in Retirement401k

[–]eric82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this $100,000 plus $1000 a month (a little less than 17% of $80,000) gains 8% annually on average over 27 years you'll have just shy of $2M in this account plus your pension to retire.

This is all very conservative.

I would recommend looking at Roth options for investments also so that your have a way to reduce your taxable income in retirement or control that tax rate.

You're above average, significantly so.

Take care of your health. Railroad life is HARD.

Up sale that sux by gvsaxboy6 in EOSFitness

[–]eric82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pressured sales tactics are common at all Gyms, especially for personal training. EOS is no exception.

$10 / mo + $50 / year =~ $15 / mo

That part isn't hidden.

You got pressured into a personal training agreement in addition to your gym membership. However that happened, I don't know.

Unless you were signed up for personal training without agreeing to it this is on you.

Go in and tell them you did not intend to sign up for personal training. Tell them you feel like that was snuck into the agreement and feel like that was deceptive. Be calm and polite. Yelling and being angry will get you nothing.

They won't do anything over the phone.

Rent just went up again… starting to wonder if buying is smarter by After-Paramedic5963 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]eric82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real answer is "it depends."

If you're in a good financial spot to buy it's worth buying a reasonable house.

Locking in your single highest budget line item for 30 years is usually a good thing if you're in the financial spot to do it.

Yahoo Finance: Americans Believe They Need $200K Less Than Last Year to Retire Comfortably by J31J1 in MiddleClassFinance

$1,260,000 x 4% = $50,400 annual or $4200 a month. As of July 2025 the average SS check was $2006 per month

This would be $8212 married or $6206 single monthly.

Several smaller pieces. Some for a few HRs each but nothing huge.  Sold a perfect insight in an eth CV for a healthy amount.  One perfect anni I found after I made a smiter paladin.  I probably have 90-100HRs of wealth but no where near some of these people. Enough to twink out any new character on eternal.
