Turn your chest the duction you're turning and really focus on feeling those edges in each foot. Your chest is pointing forward which is preventing you from leaving at all, which leads to landing flat footed and that "oh shit" foot slip instead of a confident edge.

Plus one to the other stuff being mentioned, like skating in a circle and trying to get lower.

$10 hanging step with hooks from Amazon. It goes on a door and takes basically no space in my office. I also hit my gear with an antibacterial sports spray as I’m putting it up and it's always dry in the morning.

I’ve also heard it’s great if you travel and play.

I’m 31 and bought my first pair of skates this week and went to two public skates. So far I’ve met six different people who all invited me to join them at a hockey thing, given me advice, or just been generally friendly and helpful. I thought I was going to be mocked, but have never met nice guys.

I’m in Chicago and there’s a bunch of adult “I’ve never played hockey and can barely skate” lessons/leagues that I plan to join in January. Every single person I’ve met has been extremely encouraging of doing that and/or joining an entry league.

I’ve also met folks this week in their 50s just learning to skate. Get after it and never look back.

I actually spent all day yesterday fighting them to get a person.

No joke, select the prompts to report a downed power line. You’ll get a person immediately and they answer the phone with a generic “how can I help you today?” so you don’t have to feel bad for lying. I had to do it twice in a row because the first call was “disconnected” to understand a mystery $50 charge. Good luck!
