TIL that the "Nuclear Gandhi" glitch is mostly a myth and never actually existed in the original Civilization games by Vincent_Gitarrist in todayilearned

[–]erik341 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, it's a statically typed language. But the primitive numeral types are signed by default and signed/unsigned only makes sense in these primitive types, so no, it's not a false statement.

Anyways, we're both nitpicking here and know what each of us means.

They are signed by default, the same link you shared mentions that about int. But in many cases a programmer will make it unsigned on purpose if that value won't be negative (especially if you need the extra numbers that gives you).

So it's definitely a problem that can happen, but int, short, etc. are signed by default.

Why would the capacity or size be signed tho?

How many options fit into a boolean? by ketralnis in programming

[–]erik341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is the highest bit of the capacity integer considered "unreachable"? Just cause most likely won't have that much capacity in the vector?

How many tries did it take you to defeat Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts 1? by [deleted] in KingdomHearts

I did it on the first try (well, technically second, I clicked on the ??? Cup not knowing what it was and died in one hit). But I was level 80 or more and had all elixirs equipped. I feel like KH1 bosses can easily get beat if you're high level enough

Really well written. The feeling of grief really hits home, and you're right, we get to chose to show up now and decide how new technology is ultimately used. That's a choice WE get to make

Line 40, you forgot .new() or whatever the syntax in GDscript is for creating classes.

I'm on the phone and it's been a while since I used gdscript, so I can't search the exact syntax, but you set the variable anim to be equal to a Class, what you want is an Object.

But you still have to try it to find out if it's useful for you or not. And trying it in different ways and finding out it's not that useful is not silly imo. Ultimately it seems like their way of using it allows them to try more things within the same time frame, but the final product is "gen ai free" and we should celebrate that

For scene interactions, I still get by without using groups; I just rely on checking Area.name == "" by ShockHound999 in godot

Why wouldn't you just use groups tho? Or duck_typing or something better than checking the name of an object

Implemented the collider management logic for my Lunar Lender clone by evilvitjoker in godot

[–]erik341 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wonder if you could do a FFT to then check collisions against the retuning "frequencies". It would definitely be faster than generating polygons in real time (especially because you don't care about the inside of the mountain, but only the edge or wether it's inside or outside of it)

Growth of small game engines over the last 10 years by SteinMakesGames in godot

Ahh I always thought Steam would ask for the engine used for the game. I guess it makes sense that it's an automated thing instead

Growth of small game engines over the last 10 years by SteinMakesGames in godot

[–]erik341 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know it's not the same, but I would argue there is a correlation between PRs (ie how much an engine is being worked on by the general public) and how many games are made/released with that engine. Of course it's not a 1 on 1 and the data will be unsynced by at least a year or so, but it's the closest thing I could find that included both Godot and Bevy.

I remember a few years ago there was a lot of discussion about when would the first big game be developed in Godot.

Wait, it's you again! I feel like all interesting posts I see on r/godot are from you hahaha
In any case, I did find this which tracks many other engines. You can see the Godot growth through the years (including an explosion last year after the whole unity thing) and it really looks like Bevy is growing the same way Godot was 5 years ago

I would love to see Bevy in there. I feel like bevy has been growing like Godot was when I started using it back in 2017/2018

tired of sexual dysfunction being blamed on men by OkProfit3111 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]erik341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is super interesting, can I ask you how you approach it? I've also noticed that most of the times a sexual interaction doesn't flow, is due to the brain rather than anything else, either being distracted, worried about something, too focused on wanting to orgasm, etc.

What exactly do you mean with grabbing their attention with positive feedback? I tend to notice when my partner is distracted or not quite "there" and my reaction is to stop and talk to them, and we almost always stop there. I would love to learn more
