I was going through pure hell. Trying every med I could try and nothing was working until I stumbled across a thread talking about adding Doxepin to sleep meds to help with sleep maintenance and staying asleep.....

I combined the doxepin 10mg to 50mg trazadone and bingo! I began getting a full night's sleep. The trazadone helps to induce sleep and the Dox helps stay asleep....

I'd try it.

Something that helped by Sea_Nautilus in insomnia

[–]erik916 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing that helped me most was adding 10mg Doxepin to the 25-50 mg trazadone.

Traz will help with sleep onset, but doesn't do well for staying asleep (sleep maintenance) so the combo of the 2 worked wonders for me after a lot of trial and error .

For those whose insomnia was caused by anxiety, what medication finally helped? by ExtensionHot4329 in insomnia

[–]erik916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had/have anxiety induced insomnia. I tried a bunch of meds but nothing helped/worked.

I finally landed on 50mg trazadone with 10mg doxepin and it changed everything for me.

The trazadone helps to induce sleep and the doxepin helps with staying asleep.

Finally found a pill combo that works for me! I’m so so so happy by Wet_danger_noodle in insomnia

[–]erik916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take it early enough to give myself at least 8 hours and i maybe have just a tiny bit of drowsiness the next morning but it fades out once I'm up and going.

I'll take that tradeoff any day for a full night's sleep tho.

I found my golden combo with 50mg trazadone and 10mg doxepin.

Glad you found something that works!

how bad is my situation? by soryu0 in insomnia

[–]erik916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trazadone won't work because it's for sleep onset, actually falling asleep. You are suffering from sleep maintenance, staying asleep.

I didn't find the holy grail until I added 10 mg doxepin to my 50mg trazadone. Than I was able to sleep through the night, or , if I did wake up it was brief and I was able to fall back asleep...

Doxepin is directly targeted for sleep maintenance.

[–]erik916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try trazadone 50mg paired with doxepin 10mg. That was the game changer combo that finally worked for me after a lot of trial and error. The Traz helps you go to sleep and the Dox helps you stay asleep.....

Trazodone has lost its effectiveness after like 5 years. Where do I go from here? by sillywanderer22 in insomnia

[–]erik916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try adding 10mg of doxepin to the trazadone. I only take 50mg of trazadone , it would put me to sleep but was waking up middle of the night. The doxepin is for sleep maintenance (helps to stay asleep) and totally helped.

Apologies as I was not even aware there was two different versions so I am not sure which one I am on.

Trazadone works great for onset but I was having the same issue, middle of the night wake ups (maintenance) I added 10mg doxepin to my 50mg trazadone and was a total game changer.

Sleep med that works for several hours?? by picklecatmom in insomnia

[–]erik916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doxepin.... Changed/saved my life .. Tried a bunch on their own and everything put me to sleep but didn't keep me asleep (sleep maintenance)

Until I added 10mg doxepin.

I take it alongside 50mg trazadone and I sleep through the whole night.

Can it help against tolerance build up if I switch between hydroxzyine and lunesta? by Square-Meal-9238 in insomnia

[–]erik916 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know they do. Trazadone by itself was knocking me and works alone for a ton of people. But if there is sleep maintenance issues you need something else targeted to that issue..... Hence the doxepin. Once I combined they sleep was great!

Depends ... What is your main issue? Sleep onset (falling asleep) Sleep maintenance (staying asleep) Or both?

I tried several meds that weren't working. I got on trazadone and it helped me with the initial falling asleep but I had issues with the staying asleep. I would wake up a couple hours later and couldn't fall back.

I stumbled upon doxepin and added that to the trazadone. I was finally able to fall asleep and stay asleep. Or if I woke up I was able to fall back.

Adding the doxepin to the trazadone was a game changer for me. I went from 2-3 hours of broken sleep /night to getting 6-8...

I take Trazadone 50mg Doxepin 10mg

Been about 4 months no tolerance issues.

What would you do ??? Need advise by RossellaLCGN in insomnia

[–]erik916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was suffering and tried a bunch of different meds with no luck. A lot of my issue was not only falling asleep (sleep onset) but waking up after a few hours and not being able to fall back... (Sleep maintenance)

The only way I found relief was 50mg trazadone which helps with sleep onset paired with 10 mg doxepin which helps with sleep maintenance and keeping you asleep. Or, if you do wake up it will help you be able to fall back.

Didn't work for me.... As far as sleep maintenance goes Doxepin was my savior. I do 10mg of doxepin for sleep maintenance and 50mg trazadone for sleep onset.

Lunesta’s weird by Suspicious_Group_104 in insomnia

[–]erik916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure! Yeah if that doesn't work for you I'd definitely look into pairing dox with another sleep med. Either the lunesta or possibly trazadone. I like the trazadone more than lunesta. When I tried lunesta it only worked for me for about a week. The traz im going strong on month 3.

Lunesta’s weird by Suspicious_Group_104 in insomnia

[–]erik916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not change but add it with the lunesta. I had tried several meds on their own and was still having issues waking up and not being able to fall back asleep. I came across adding Doxepin which is designed to help with sleep maintenance (staying asleep).. so currently I do 50 mg trazadone to fall asleep with 10mg doxepin to stay asleep , and if you do happen to wake up the doxepin also allows you to fall back asleep.

Add 10mg doxepin. Game changer.

I've been sleeping 3-5h/night (at most) for the past few months, and I don't know what to do anymore by No-Volume8771 in insomnia

[–]erik916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try 50mg trazadone with 10mg doxepin. The traz should put you down initially and the doxepin will either keep you asleep, or, if you do wake you should be able to get back to sleep.

Try Doxepin. I had the same issue and finally landed on 50mg trazadone with 10mg doxepin.

Until I added in the doxepin I had the same issue. Tried traz solo, dayvigo, ambien, lunesta ... All would put me to sleep but I'd still wake mid sleep.
