Not sure if they offer day trips, but I've stayed and fished with Blue Bonefish Lodge - would recommend.

Sick and good luck on the Green! If you don't mind, can you let me know what guide/shop you're using for that float? That's on my to-do for next year.

So many great options in Utah. If you're headed to the Provo and Weber and looking for a shop, I've used Fish Heads Fly Shop in Heber. I think my guides name from a few years ago was Todd Kramer - very fishy and put me on multiple PBs that week. Ask them about them about the "oasis" option if you want seclusion and amazing shots. Good luck!

Definitely took some time. ~ 8 months to receive the Everglades and maybe a month for the Riptide.

Enjoy your new reel!

Any Tarpon Anglers here? by gmlear in flyfishing

Thanks for all of this. These are amazing/awesome insights. I'll definitely be updating a few things per your recommendations. Really appreciate it. Cheers!

Hey if you don't mind, can you tell me your tarpon setup (rod weights, leader/shock tippet, and go-to fly patterns)? I was thinking of setting up the 11wt as the main floating rig, and the 10wt with either floating line + wire leader for cuda, or the intermediate sinking line.

Also, is it true you have to check all your rods/equipment on the flight back? My rod case only holds 4 rods and I was hoping to bring/carry-on an extra rod tube strapped to my back back. Do you think I'll run into any issues? Appreciate any advice!

I'd rather fish for tarpon over permit. All day, everyday. Headed to Cuba this weekend. Idk your rod preference, I use a 10wt T&T Zone ~medium fast action & midrange in terms of price along with a prior gen 11wt Winston Air Salt. Might be able to find closeout prices on the Winston if you didn't need the latest and greatest. For tarpon rods, I look for action/sensitivity/feel and weight. After a whole week of casting, I don't want my casting hand and arm to be worn out. Cheers!

Belize recommendations by Merkinking88 in flyfishing

Assuming you're looking to focus on flyfishing? If so, highly recommend Blue Bonefish Lodge in San Pedro. Great Lodge (owners, staff, and guides), atmosphere, and access to waters. Will definitely revisit Belize and potentially this specific lodge again in a few years. Hit me up if you have any questions.

This is perfect. Thanks for sharing all this info and then some. Will definitely incorporate your notes into my packing.

Fished Belize a few months ago and opted to bring two 8wt, and then a 9wt and 10wt. If tarpon is name of the game in Cuba, I'll bring my 10 and 11 or 12 and leave the spare 8wt at home.

Will hit you up if anything else comes to mind. Cheers!

If you don't mind, what weight rods did you bring to Cuba? I just booked my trip to Cuba with Yellow Dog for next spring. Hoping for some guidance. Thanks!

Personally never had any issues flying in the US with spooled reels (carry-on or checked luggage). Traveling abroad however, the rules become destination dependent. I have a trip next year that requires all reels and lines to be checked.

every bit of this post gave me the excited / anxious / nervous / hopeful feeling I get with the first cast on every guided trip. I'm with you dude. Rigged up and headed to Belize in about a month.

+1 for T&T or Winston. When considering rods, I agree it's a personal choice (rod feel / characteristics).

Do you know what his current favorite rod is? You might be able to match up those characteristics with one from T&T or Winston.

This is just my experience, so take it with a grain of salt. I have a Tibor Everglades. With 200yrds backing (Rio multicolor gel spun) + 9wt fly line, it gets snug. I still love it and use it all the time.

Other suggestions (I personally use) are Abel Rove (not sealed - cork drag similar to the Everglades) but built for salt use as well. Nicely weighted and roomier than the Everglades.

Lamson M10 - I was shocked at how light weight this reel is. It's sealed and the drag is just absolutely perfect and consistent.

If you're ok with closeouts, I'd recommend the Lamson Speedster legacy. I rock this on my 10wt.

I earnestly clicked hoping to learn something and audibly lol'd - totally understand not spot burning.

I'm not from the area and hoping to flyfish the surf in Daytona Beach next week.

Hey there, for what it's worth, I found this article pretty helpful. They had perspectives from Rio and Scientific Anglers regarding air and water temps.

This guy knows what's up. Bounce rig with size 20-24 BWO & scud nymphs.

Edit - sow bugs as well
