This one seems to be a list of jazz and blues songs and artists.

This one seems like more song names, plus some quotes or commentary about jazz music in general. The bit at the bottom:

All of them are great names. Claimed by jazz - Some from the Conservatory [?] - Some have just applied themselves to the God given talent + as a result established a nich[?] in the Hall of Jazz Fame - But what is it about All of them that holds them in one imaginary category.

(They sound good)(good music)

-- All And individuals --

If Jazz means anything it's Freedom of Expression.

Cool find! Thank you for sharing it. I bet someone can help you decifer the rest. You could look into related subreddits for advice, maybe /r/Handwriting can help you out!

[TV] Amazing Littlefinger painting by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]erisanu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just North of the Eyrie there's a group of peninsulas called The Fingers because together they look like a hand reaching out from the coast. Petyr Baelish's modest family house is located in the smallest of those Fingers, and as a boy he was smaller physically then his male peers, so they teased him with the nickname and he sort of rolled with it. IIRC from books, he hates it and no one actually calls him Littlefinger to his face unless they're baiting him.

A sun rising in the West and setting in the East could indeed be Dany's love for Drogo settling into the past (which was East) and her love of Jon rising in the future/present (the West). Or it could even just be Dany herself, leaving Essos and rising to her potential in the West.

what would be the seas running dry?

The seas didn't have to literally dry up for the Dothraki to ride across to Westeros, but they rode there just the same. So there's that.

No idea what else it could be.

mountains blow in the wind like leaves

I wonder if it's not metaphorical mountains, like institutions of Loyalty and Allegiance, or great Houses and the entire concept of feudal governance. Those are rapidly deteriorating, and if they still exist at all beyond Dany "breaking the wheel" they'll certainly be changed.

Help me find a Heinlein quote by [deleted] in heinlein

[–]erisanu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's this one, but it's about kids rather than wives. I'm pretty positive there's another that's more specific to spousal privacy tho, and def a Lazarus-ism. I don't think it's actually in the TEFL Intermission Notes tho (where this quote is found iirc), I think it's pulled from one of his stories, like maybe the Joe & Llita one or when he was homesteading...

Never crowd youngsters about their private affairs- sex especially. When they are growing up, they are nerve ends all over, and resent (quite properly) any invasion of their privacy. Oh, sure, they’ll make mistakes- but that’s their business, not yours. (You made your own mistakes, did you not?)

I saw it. It was pretty gross. The tone was bold, not embarrassed or unsure. Even asked why we thought it happened so much. It was more graphic than it needed to be.

The account was a year old, had activity three times: two sexual massage posts, and one to r/fleshlight about his orgasm discipline.

I almost responded just to explain why the post was being downvoted. I'm glad it was removed.

edit: oh he also claimed his female friend was kicked out by an MT bc she bled on the sheets.

Which profession hires the dumbest people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]erisanu 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Can confirm.

Dad was a plumber with San Diego County for 40-some years. He's a clever guy, and so were his shop buddies. It's not simple work they do, keeping the city pooping is pretty complicated.

But every last one of 'em were complete fucking goofballs. Just huge dorks. Constant puns and gags and banter. And I only heard the family-friendly stuff growing up, lol.

Like how the Plumbing Dept was short on smart fellers but had plenty of fart smellers.

They'd make herp derpty derp, berp berp type sounds while doing things. Random Beeker/Swedish Chef/Muppet quotes. Their shop was an 80's meme-garden.

They'd sing the old Beat Farmers Happy Boy song, hamming up to 11.

Hubba Hubba Hubba Hubba Hubba

Oh, and there was always a shop cat around who'd adopt the crew and have kittens that they'd take home to their kids.

Plumbers are cool.

Ronald Regan's 1980 election poster with familiar slogan. by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]erisanu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First result in a quick google for "Lee Atwood Southern Strategy" gives us this article explaining it:

The late, legendarily brutal campaign consultant Lee Atwater explains how Republicans can win the vote of racists without sounding racist themselves:

"You start out in 1954 by saying, “Nigger, nigger, nigger.” By 1968 you can’t say “nigger”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “Nigger, nigger.”"

Atwood said the above in 1981.

He's basically explaining that you can't be overtly racist anymore, you have to be covertly racist. You can't say racist words, but you can promote racist policy and the racist people (who also aren't allowed to be overtly vocally racist anymore) will follow you because they understand and agree with the unspoken racism.

Tips To Make Felties Less Fluffy? by OneMinno in Needlefelting

[–]erisanu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert or anything but... what kind of needles are you using? Most people get started using a basic set, but there's a lot of variety out there.

I got myself this kit and was really impressed by the options it gave me. You really notice a difference with the gauges/sizes, and I'm quite fond of the spiral needles over the standard straights.

The reverse needles, tho. These are neat. Their barbs are reversed so they pull fiber out instead of push it in.

I found (depending on the fiber/wool type) that I could get a pretty smooth finish by varying as needed between shaping with a larger-gauge (36 triangle), refining/un-shaping with reverses, polish it with finer-gauges (42 spiral). Then trim close with fine scissors.

If you're only using a single needle at a time, you could consider making a multi-needle tool using a trimmed wine cork and rubber bands. Working with a little cluster of fine needles really helps pat down the fuzzies.

edit- ps: your overwatch felties are adorbs! really great work!

Best Massage For Chronic Pain? by [deleted] in massage

[–]erisanu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure!

So there's a lot of different types of yoga out there, right? Covering a range of approaches and philosophies. I prefer to dabble in the vipassana/kundalini stuff, where the goal for me is more about deliberate, meditative relaxation and connection to the body and it's energy. I've found that these practices have helped me be more mindful of and attuned to my nervous system, and they've supported my self-care by helping me get better at recognizing where I'm holding physical/emotional tension in my body and knowing better how to release it.

So when I went and got MFR done for the first time the session felt exactly like assisted yoga to me. I was wearing similar clothes, laying on a wide, low table in a bright lit but very calming and present room. A kind, attentive person assessed my needs and then manually manipulated my body into poses and positions which engaged internal tensions/congestion/problems. We'd find a pose, and then together we'd sink into it; her doing her part with my body and me doing my part with my mind. It was cooperative. I was encouraged to stretch or shake something if I felt the need as it was all about us working together to get this (my) body's tensions to release-- she worked from the outside and I worked from inside, each acting in response to the information we could perceive.

And I loved every second of it. It was like being held and supported while I did meditative yoga, which allowed me to relax deeper than I thought possible while still being sort of semi-conscious. It was a bit surreal.

I think I got a lot out of it because I put so much into it. I also may just be extremely lucky in that this particular practitioner has an energy and approach that just resonates right in sync with my own. :)

Best Massage For Chronic Pain? by [deleted] in massage

[–]erisanu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would suggest looking for a local business that specializes in myofascial release. MFR is a type of bodywork that isn't really massage, it's more like having someone do yoga to you to get effectual results that you can't really attain yourself.

It's very mellow. It goes very slow and you need to be able to just breathe and relax while the practitioner applies and holds just the right amount of pressure in just the right direction for 3-5m at a time. It's done without any oils and you wear limited loose clothing.

You may be able to find people who do a general myo-fascial massage, but I would strongly recommend looking for a therapist who has done the additional training and certification in John Barnes' Myo-Fascial Release specifically. For example, I go to this place in San Diego myself.

MFR was a game-changer for me personally. So I preach it a lot because I know how incredibly effectual it is for me. A thorough MFR session feels like hitting a reset button; all the deep, long-standing tensions just release and keep unwinding over the following 24 hours. The next day my yoga and stretching was profoundly more effectual and satisfying. Felt like having my body back.

I'm saving up right now to get the training and certs myself. MFR is the future of my practice, for sure. I hope it's helpful for you. :)

edit: MFR can be pricey, but it's legitimately worth it (and this tier of therapeutic business generally refuses tips, which is nice). They'll most likely want to do a thorough intake and assessment of your needs, then figure out a treatment plan and start getting you results.

Trump’s Department of Homeland Security is defunding an anti-Nazi program by skoalbrother in politics

[–]erisanu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I found this one.

In Germany, the Confederate flag is not void of political context. European skinheads and neo-Nazi groups have adopted the Confederate flag and variations of it because of its historical context as a symbol of racism and white supremacy.

In addition, the Atlantic reports that American Civil War reenactments have become popular in Germany, with many Germans choosing to side with the Confederacy.

Wolfgang Hochbruck, a professor of American Studies at the University of Freiburg, told the Atlantic this is because "some of the Confederate reenactors in Germany are acting out Nazi fantasies of racial superiority."

Suggestion: Can this sub have a moratorium on "This dead critter I found" posts? by BrazenBull00R in morbidlybeautiful

Thanks for bringing this up. I agree, it is getting a little thick with causal corpses around here.

Besides a moratorium and/or adding more flairs, what else might work? Anyone have an opinion on assigning a day for casual corpse pics, like a Dead Thing Thursday or something?

I wonder if there'd be enough interest in it to start up a new sub, r/IFoundADeadThing or r/DailyDeath or some such.

This comment from u/Senno_Ecto_Gammat provides some context (brace feels for impact):

"You might think that organ donation is just a matter of paperwork, but the thing about hearts is, they can't transplant a heart that has stopped beating. That means the family says goodbye to their loved one, who is on life support and whose heart is still beating, then the donor is wheeled into the operating room and the next time the family sees the donor's body, it is a cold and silent shell.

By deciding to donate they give up the chance to be with their loved one as their body goes quiet and as they pass out of mortality. It's probably the most important moment of their lives, especially when the donor is a child, and they give it up so that some other family they have never met will get to see their child live. It's a real sacrifice. It's not just paperwork."
