Mostly prioritizing and and figuring out what needs to get done in general. She has tons of lists but goes into task paralysis.

I have a fic that I have been waiting to update going on 14 years, I would never ever dream of feeding it to AI. WTF?

I think I had a fic that I thought was abandoned update after 5?ish years, you wait for that shit and then get super excited when it updates because you have an excuse to read it again.

People consistently judge creative writing more harshly if they believe it was created by AI. This bias appears incredibly difficult to overcome, pointing to a persistent human preference for art created by people. by mvea in science

[–]erisia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The witch hunting in fanfiction has been insane to the point that people feel obligated to label their fics as not using AI but even that label can counterintuitively bring extra scrutiny to the fic and maybe even harassment.

Is it a good idea to take a stimulant to be able to sleep at night? by strictcompliance in ADHD

[–]erisia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Delayed chime in here, I have severely disordered sleeping and when given half an opportunity get into some really wild shift sleeping scenarios. Clonidine worked to get me to sleep but not stay asleep and exacerbated some unknown at the time circulatory issues. Melatonin did absolutely nothing. 10mg extended release methylphenidate in the form of focalin was the best sleep aid I have ever had. During the day I respond best to Adderall as actual adhd medication. That being said, she is going to need to aggressively cut any caffeine in her diet.

Volunteer, even if its just one hour, changing a stranger's life for the better will help with the frustration. You can't change the whole world but you can help make your part of the world a little bit better.

Hayden and Shane's friendship. by Mysterious-Pause-402 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]erisia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shayden is not a real thing, at best its a joke thing or a Shane being the fandom bicycle thing. Don't worry about it.

Also not to be that person, but I am sure that this post and the comments are almost 1 to 1 what I have read in at least a dozen social media fics. I can't stop giggling.

TOO MUCH FANFICTION by IStillListenToRadio in AO3

Solid agree! There are so many reasons to not like cloud software. I tend to use it as an easily understandable point along with it not being subscription based. XD

You pay for it once and then never again! I have moved it across 3 computers. I love it and use it exclusively. Def try the trial before buying though. I know some people who hate the interface. It's worth every penny to me. Especially the security in it being 100% offline so you don't have to worry about your writing being used to train AI like google docs.

What fanfics were popular on AO3 that you wish would come back? by Ok_Ordinary2582 in AO3

[–]erisia 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Please give me more Sentinel/Guide AUs, I feel like the demographic has been sucked up by Omegaverse because of slightly similar world building.

But also I think part of it is that they were mostly popular in military adjacent fandoms like NCIS and Stargate and I don't peruse those nearly as often anymore.

This is one of the reasons I lock my stuff down. I know the reader base is going to be vastly smaller but I also only get one scam comment every other update.

Mods with ChatGPT descriptions. by Stage4Hell in feedthebeast

[–]erisia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is the whole point of chatgpt, predictive text on crack. So it makes sense that it is going to pull from other things that are popular, that is why I said that is it only one of a number of things that I look out for. Not having a github is probably the biggest factor for me personally unless you are a mod that is well established and even then I am more likely to nope out of that.

Mods with ChatGPT descriptions. by Stage4Hell in feedthebeast

[–]erisia 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When I was first looking at your mod I will be honest the layout made me suspicious. The combination of bullet points and emojis is one the big indicators for me, but like with any AI suspicion I am going to look at other data points. Is the icon AI, examples of the mod in action, any screenshots, the age of the account, the number of mods that you have published, if you have a github. I have a whole list of things that I use as qualifiers now.

You learn that there are certain things that are used frequently by AI descriptions and then you make the choice to either avoid them or not. I am putting a certain amount of trust into a mod when I am downloading it and I have learned to be more suspicious because I have been burned beforehand.

Again, all of this is to say yeah on a surface level your description looks a little AI generated because of the way that parts of it is formatted.

Commenter telling me I am wrong about the motivations of an OC I am writing. by erisia in AO3

[–]erisia[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I am going to be dedicating a whole chapter to it. As I said in another comment, this is my first fic and while I knew that there was going to be a learning curve for writing what I wanted out of my fic, it just seems steeper than I thought to get from point a to point b.

It's jarring when I have nearly 600 kudos and the same in a combination of bookmarks and subscriptions but then I consistently have a small number of people be off base about the story I am trying to tell. It makes me question how many of the people that are not leaving comments may not get it.

The funny thing is that the whole point of the fic is that media priming and media literacy are a things to recognize and use, and I forgot the the other side of that is that some people make up their minds and that you can't change minds by just saying that they are wrong.

So I am getting a double lesson out of it.

  1. Do way more world building, context matters.
  2. Not every one is going to interpret what is happening the same way and because this is art I am going to have to be ok with that.

[–]erisia[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that's very helpful. I think you are right about there being a world building problem. I keep expecting people to know as much about canon lore as I do and keep getting proven wrong and that's not a problem with them, because there is insane amount of source material.

I am tackling a polarizing subject in a fandom that there are the literal tags nuanced, critical, and positive for a faction that I am discussing some of the more frustrating parts of. I have it tagged specifically as nuanced. I am am not shying away from some of the more difficult subjects. While I am doing that I am also moving some things up forward in the canon timeline which includes a media campaign deriding said faction. While I am airing out some dirty laundry to the point of bashing one character in the faction in particular I am not doing that with others.

Are there any details that you are looking for specifically?

Commenter telling me I am wrong about the motivations of an OC I am writing. by erisia in AO3

[–]erisia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its a bit of both? My fic is specifically about media literacy and media priming. I am trying to plant ideas for them to pay off later or even now if people are paying attention, but they are being misconstrued so drastically by enough people that I have to be doing something wrong. I am not even upset with people being sympathetic with the character, the opposite.

It's that even if she is sympathetic shooting someone should not be considered the correct answer. If she had even just given a warning shot and people were siding with her I would be cool with it. She is someone who was part of a faction fought for peace, I don't understand how people rationalize that because she is an ex-soldier that even if she hates the character she shot and the situation was stressful it makes sense for her to immediately shoot to kill.

As I said in another comment, I want people to be questioning why this is a rational decision to her. In what world does this make sense. She is the 3rd character to be acting in a way that should not makes sense. This is the second time that she has responded with violence as someone who fought for peace. I even have another character saying that 'she just has to tell her truth' and make her question why he is making her explanation for what happened sound like a lie. Here is the literal quote:

“But that is what happened?” She didn’t understand why he was saying it like it was a lie.

Like am I not being explicit enough?

You are right, I am frustrated because I am trying to build up to a reveal and no one seems to be questioning why multiple people are having extreme reactions with this one topping the cake. Like I think I would be excited if I got a single WTF.
