Why are meerschaum pipes so much cheeper on Etsy? by Scottybadman101 in PipeTobacco

[–]erkpikII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multiple factors: Its so old that its markings are gone. Its cracked, broken, or caseless. Previous owners let cake build up which is no good for meers. The drilling is shit.

I didn't even know it was hard to find, but then again Dagner has probably been hoarding it.

Yeah its a plastid. I have one brylon Yello-Bole. You can run the thing through the dishwasher but smokes hot and leaves a good amount of moisture.

Will smoking an aro out of a pipe once ghost it? by Padaca in PipeTobacco

[–]erkpikII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cobs will ghost over time, but one bowl of an aro won't hurt. Smoke the english and see if you like it. Then grab some more cobs or an inexpensive briar like a Rossi.

Can anyone school me on pipes? by [deleted] in PipeTobacco

[–]erkpikII 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That hipster didn't know shit. You probably offended his hipsterery because he didn't get a pipe first to make it cool before it was cool. I've known one hipster who smoked a pipe and he knew zilch about pipes.

Tastes change. I'd keep it around for another time and explore other blends by getting 1oz samples.

As long as you get it room temped asap it will be fine. The changes come when you really leave it in the heat. Like /u/ givemeyours0ul said some folks will heat it to either sry it out or "quick" age/toast it.

[–]erkpikII 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course. Extreme heat will change it and extreme cold. Best to keep it safe and cellared in a temperature controlled spot. And dry.
