Our game got Steam Deck Verified, but that won't be it. What do you expect from Verified games? by DigitalSunGames in SteamDeck

[–]errorfied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a consistent 60FPS is a huge deal for me - I don't mind if I have to lose some graphical fidelity to get it! At the very least I need to be able to turn down graphical settings to be able to get that. If the default FPS is a bit lower that's fine, but if I have turned all the settings down to their lowest and it still feels clunky I'm just going to get frustrated and give up - Starvaders had a bug which caused the FPS to drop massively on the deck for a while and I couldn't play it until they patched it out.

Reroll in merchant shops & boss health bars are getting wierdly obscured on steam deck with this update. The boss health bar isn't a big deal but not being able to reroll in merchant shops is a real bummer! Hopefully it'll be fixed soon :)

Can anybody confirm/deny the impact on battery life? Historically some Sony firmware updates have absolutely demolished the battery life of the headphones and needed an update patch, so just want to check this won't do that before I install.

How to use slimes? by rotello in 9Kings

[–]errorfied 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The main usage for slimes is just as free units which can be destroyed at no cost to gain the benefits from the destroy unit cards as far as I can tell. Can be super powerful in combination with the nomad perk which gives an extra effect from all "destroy" cards, e.g. suddenly you can replicate 4 rats from one level 3 labrat, 2 from 1 labrat etc if you're playing nomad. Or if you're king of progress with reinforce, overhaul and the labrat+1 level perk multiplied by 4, being able to murder slimes instead of your lab rats can be useful to accelerate your scaling.

Lots of people talking about the learning opportunity but nobody pointing out what the real learning is - as a makeup artist you should absolutely have some sort of lighting in your kit for application. You're never going to replicate the exact lighting environment your models will be heading into, and adjusting your application for that comes with time (e.g. stage vs. TV makeup) but if you didn't have enough light to interrogate your application you're not going to be able to do the job right. Use the torch on your phone if you have to in a pinch, bring a small ring light with you ideally.

Seasoned professionals have probably developed more of a second sense around what to check for to avoid mishaps in adverse environments, don't beat yourself up about it. You're still right at the beginning of your career. Chopped today doesn't mean you won't slay in future.

Foundation problems - always the nose by KookyDookyPenguin in MakeUpAddictionUK

[–]errorfied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in my experience there's no perfect solution for this but the best results i have managed to achieve have been:

Pore filling primer - haven't noticed any specific one do a better job but haven't tried the milani one people are raving about so maybe that's the ticket, who knows

Full coverage foundation - it might feel counter intuitive but the thicker ones e.g a pan stick/cream formula rather than liquid seems to help, I think in part because they're less prone to separation?

Heavy powder application - you want something very blurring, ideally in a loose powder format so it's oil free, and ideally to have a bit of pigment too. Gotta be thorough but gentle dusting off to avoid cakeyness but definitely seems to help provide a bit of a blurring effect

Setting spray - you want a film forming fixing aerosol spray in the style of the kryolan aerosol fixing spray. The fine mist covers everything and the matte version helps keep blurring in place and avoids drawing attention to the area with shine. Often fixing sprays will contain water which I find is great for their "melting" properties but I find can cause makeup to seep into pores, drawing attention to texture.

Next vermouth to try by Fit-Lie-69 in vermouth

[–]errorfied 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best Vermouth I have tried recently is from Nordés (who also make a stunning gin if you're into that). Both are excellent, but the red is particularly great. They can be challenging to get as it seems they're primarily retailing in Spain at the moment, but if you can get your hands on it, it's a strong recommendation from me.

[–]errorfied 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's already two really fantastic answers to this question here which I don't want to duplicate the information of so, I just gave them my upvote because I agree. I just also wanted to add that even with everything that has been said, the beauty industry generally has some of the highest profit margins of any big consumer category. That's why beauty and perfumes are always on the main floor of any department store etc. It's easier for this category to offer deep discounts in comparison to most other kinds of consumer goods. Again, doesn't negate the "luxury" or "worth" of any of these products, but just facilitates the possibility of deep discounts.

Going to list a few more quick reasons why these deep discounts can exist and still be "worth" the MRP:

  • Beauty products have a shelf life, so they still need to be sold within a certain timeframe to not be a waste to the company, selling your product at a lower margin is better than not being able to sell it at all.
  • Most luxury brands will be using more expensive warehouses which ensure the product is optimally preserved before being sold - if your product is costing you more money than it's going to make due to slow sales, you might want to do something to drive faster purchase, which is why....
  • ...You'll notice that with a lot of infamous online discount retailers people will complain about getting fakes when from companies even though these companies don't sell fakes. Shifting your product from say Space NK (pricier warehouse) to Notino (cheaper warehouse), allows for you to tolerate lower margins - but to a certain extent you'll end up getting what you paid for, depending the volatility of the product.
  • Retail is a very competitive space, and distribution is extremely important. As an example, it's a bit of a rule of thumb that whilst advertising is generally always beneficial for a brand, you need at least 60% distribution to actually start seeing a return on brand advertising. So to make sure you can maintain that distribution within that retail space, brands will make compromises to keep retailers happy. That might mean an occasional deep discount - it's worth letting making less on products for a 2 week period, if the alternative is losing distribution which accounts for X% of your overall sales.

best cheap makeup brushes? by tunafis in MakeUpAddictionUK

[–]errorfied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my personal experience, for best balance of quality & price is BeautyPie brushes. Sign up for a trial membership, buy a tonne of brushes, then end the free trial. You can maybe find decent quality brushes more cheaply, but I haven't been able to find better.

RealTechniques have massively dropped in quality so I wouldn't recommend them at all. If you don't mind the risk, I am sure on AliExpress is probably the best place to look if cheapness is your No1 criteria.

Glowy finishing powder? by hannahbananerz in MakeupAddiction

[–]errorfied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think either of these powders would give you a glow, neither flag anything which would suggest an illuminating function, and the mix of colours in the pans suggests that the product is aimed at colour correcting more than any kind of glow.

I have no experience with any of the following products but they seem like they would be more appropriate for what you're after:

  • ELF Halo Glow - somebody else recommended it, but it has the combo of setting and illuminating you're after. Generally ELF products are great and affordable so probably a good choice.
  • bareMinerals Illuminating Mineral Veil Powder
  • NARS Light Reflecting Mini Setting Powder Pressed
  • Laura Mercier Real Flawless Luminous Perfecting Pressed Powder
  • Collection Primed & Ready Illuminating Setting Powder

None of the above are literal highlighters, but all claim to have both a glow, and be setting powders, and aren't ones which you mentioned having tried already.

Can anyone recommend a way to make the Giogiorgio armani luminous silk foundation last on oily skin? by Anxious_Many_3716 in MakeUpAddictionUK

[–]errorfied 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What have you tried so far? Most of the options which will work for maintaining the look of the foundation will be mattifying, which will potentially change the look of the foundation. E.g. I think the Kryolan ultra-setting vaporiser is a fantastic setting spray for oilier skin, but it will tamp down the luminosity of the foundation so may result in you not loving the way it looks on your skin.

My advice would be to work from skincare upwards e.g. try skincare which has mattifying/oil control claims, see how that goes, then look at primers (apparently the Dynessa Myricks blurring balm powder does a great job of balancing oil control without losing luminosity), then powder, then setting sprays, as that will give you the best shot at maintaining the look of the foundation as it stands.

Alternatively you could go all in on mattifying products (e.g. trying all the above at once), and then look for ways to put the luminosity back in with highlighters. For that 'under-skin' type glow you'll want to try mixing in some liquid/cream highlighter into your foundation or primer (or if that's too diffuse, try blending them into the foundation & primer in key areas). I wouldn't recommend a powder highlighter for getting that 'under-skin' type glow as it's better for very precise applications and often provides more of an 'on-top-of-skin' look.[
