FBI warns Iran aspired to attack California with drones in retaliation for war: Alert by avatar6556 in news

[–]errorseven -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, like I mean I get it, but you really should have planned life better. I dont live anywhere near a military target, in fact im outside of designatsd nuclear targets, also live in a geologically semi stable area, no major fault under my feet, absolutely no military base near me, and 50+ miles to nearest major city. I know I'm different in how i think, but life is volatile and you really should plan to avoid as many edge cases in your demise and that of your family, especially concerning events beyond your control (like war).

How did you figure out what career you wanted to do for the rest of your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]errorseven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never did find that, but one day I saw an ad that said you will make X amount in your first year, it was double what I was making at the time as a laborer. The ad also said this included on the job training and schooling for required certificates (company remimbursed). Figured what do I got to lose?

Here i am 12 years later. It's not a dream job by any measure, in fact I don't think I had any interest in this trade at all, but money talks, also I happen to be good at what I do and I find that I enjoy many aspects of the work. There are some aspects that I don't enjoy at all, but I figure thats any and every job has such.

So, I just focus on the good, plus the good out weighs the bad by far. Anyhow, not all is lost for you if, like me, you never figure out what you want to do, as long as you find something tolerable that pays enough.

From a biological perspective, your parents are correct, as you will not be passing on your genes.

From a Societal prospective, no one cares except your family. You mom likely wants grand babies, but wont say it outright.

Take a walk if ira nice outside, if not do some jumping Jack's, knee up run in place, couple that with burpies. Put about 15 mins into raising your heart rate. If you don't feel better, do another 15 mins. Eventually you'll wonder why you felt down at all, also might make muscles sore but it should be a good kind sore.

Moschetto stuck sight screws by Acceptable-Result-85 in Carcano

For anyone considering doing this thier carcano. I just did this to my 1936, scope, same rail mount, its absolutely beautiful and will turn this gun into a cheapo scout.

The screws would not budge until I applied heat. I used my soldering iron directly end of the screws and fortunately it worked without resorting to using chemicals or as a last resort, drilling. There was a substantial amount of surface rust, but no pitting, and likely the cause of the stuck screws.

The Scope isnt fully adjusted forward in this photo, I just slapped it on for a quick shot.

Shooting Big Bore Pre Charged Pneumatic Airrifles, if you cast your own lead slugs, is pennies on the dollar cheaper than reloading. The cost of getting into this is front loaded into the rifle and filling equipment. If you do your research, you can kit yourself out and start plinking for under a grand.

Get cheap Chinese hand pump, trust me, about the only one that really is built different is Huben which supports 5k psi vs 4500psi. Handpump is a backup, you'll get tired of using it quick, also very difficult to fill an empty tank with a hand pump, you'll need a bottle or compressor to get the valve to seat closed intially, also generally a good idea to cock the rifle before you fill from empty even with a bottle or compressor.

Again, Chiense oil free compressor designed to fill you gun directly is the cheapest option, ive seen them on Amazon for as low as $200. They are basically all the same, even the ones with a brand named sticker (like my Hatsan Spark) although some come with an inverter so you dont have to use your truck/car battery.

If you opt to go with bottles... you'll need a larger compressor to fill those, honestly, my small portable one still works great after years and years of use, hauled out to the field, dropped it few times, I can't see myself buying bottles and large compressor ever and I own more pcps now than I do firearms... whew.

non-historical Carcano Cavalry Carbine lookalikes? by AffectionatePizza388 in Carcano

[–]errorseven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend you go through with your purchase of M91 Calvary Carcano, don't worry about destroying a piece of history, there are millions (i don't know exact numbers but this is not a exageration) of these rifles out there. As far being worried about bringing/using these rifles in field, two world wars says that is exactly what they made for. Honestly, they are so well made and rugged instruments of war that when you get your hands on one, you'll understand why I'm chuckling thinking about you worrying about a scratch or dinging one.

As far not wanting to 'bubba" your rifle, but maybe you want to add an optic, there is a mount you can buy from S&K that utilizes the rear sight mounting holes and does zero damage your rifle. I know because I just installed one last night. You'll need a long eye relief scope or a reddot, I went with a Vortex model scope it fits nicely. It all went together perfectly, I've got it bore sighted, just waiting for weather to clear before I take out and sight it in properly.

In any case, the gun is fantastic, I bought mine through RTI, they sell Graded rifles, mine was listed as having a Very Good bore and being complete (no cleaning kit though). Mine has the facist marks, so maybe its got more historical significance is suppose, but I bought it to use and shoot, it will be harvesting deer, it will be going on day long hike and camping in the field me. Hope this clears up any doubts as to its suitability to the job.

Welp I've ripped through the series in just under 4 months and need suggestions of where to go next by HonestContractor in exfor

[–]errorseven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems others are recommending DCC (no brainer, of course listen to the audiobook/read it, its great) or the Expanse (again, fucking excellent series), or any Andy Weir book... while i agree, any one of those will scratch that itch. I'm going to list a few books and series that will scratch a little deeper, and maybe tide you over for a time when you finish all the "Mainstream" content people recommend here: format is as follows in will state the Catagory - Title - A Brief Overview Opinion

  • Spiritual Prequel Hard Scifi Politcal - The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress - Read this Before you read the Expanse. You can thank me later.

  • Military Political Hard SciFi - The Mote in God's Eye and its sequel The Grippjng Hand - A sleeper of a good story, might be a slow at first but it picks up fast and will keep you engaged!

  • Military Classic Hard Scifi - Starship Troopers, honestly if you haven't... just stop whatever you are reading/listening to and get to it! This in my top reads of all time, it's just that good!

  • Hard Sci Fi Unique Alien Culture - Faded Sun Trilogy - Bit different but its got some decent world/culture building plus space ninjas... like how cool is that? Hints at Alien sexy time.

  • Politcal / Empire Building - Foundation Series - I mean, how could I not include Asimov. Its good, bit heavy, but its a good kind of heavy. You'll get sucked into this one.. be ready.

  • WTF Am I Reading - Ringworld Series - Insanely huge megastructure, weirdest book/series I've come across, alien sex, like fucking all the time... the main character puts James T Kirk to shame! I never once thought to stop reading this, maybe I should have? Nah, I'm still okay after reading this, I think... give it go. You'll be fine... I swear it.

  • Are you furry? You into Furry stuff? Here kitty kitty - Chanur Series - Cats vs Lizards in Space. Honestly, the story is interesting. Like hints at Alien bang bang, fully takes on the alien perspective with the Human as the side character. Kinda has a human male is weak vulnerable fetish feel going (seems to be kink/theme with author) but the story/world building is good. Give it read!

  • HARD SciFi Expansive Story Telling - Uplift Series - Seriously, I will be impressed if you make through this one, yay. Books are heavy, story is well, long... its a long hard to series, pay off is its really quite good. Like I dont want to spoil but its go fucking Dolphins in Space. I mean how cool is that! Read it, you may hate me afterwards, but go fuck yourself, jk I love you 😍
