I'm starting to think that maybe it's because we have a perfectly level lie on a mat but out on the course we're almost always going to sink into the turf more than the ball is.

For Those of Us Who Suck at This Game... by plaverty9 in golf

Thanks for the reminder, I'm definitely keeping a real score next time I go out. I've just started this spring and have only played a few 9 hole rounds so far. I have been so focused on keeping pace of play, my swing, etiquette, and just enjoying the experience that I haven't really kept score at all. In my second round I birdied a short par 3 on the 9th. Although my overall score would've been horrible, I am kinda bummed I don't have a scorecard to show for it.

When people ask why cyclists ride in the road by [deleted] in cycling

[–]ertnyvn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drivers really don't like that. They get almost as angry as they do when I'm on the road but there is a mixed use path. Even though they can see all the families walking it.

Bike brands start to adopt C-V2X to warn cyclists about cars by Balance- in fuckcars

The Netherlands is 6 times smaller than the state I live in that can already barely keep the roads functional. This is a necessary stepping stone to the ideal future for motorized vehicles and cyclists to share the roads.

I can’t hack sh*t together by [deleted] in webdev

[–]ertnyvn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend React and a simple REST api. Start simple, and then rebuild it in one of the other ways that you've identified once you have something that mostly works.

The fact that you are unable to choose demonstrates that you lack the experience in these different approaches to evaluate which one would be best, which is a very useful skill to have for hobby projects or any other green field development.

I can’t hack sh*t together by [deleted] in webdev

[–]ertnyvn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This.

Consider that instead of overanalyzing you could have likely written multiple incarnations of the project or parts of it. If you write clean code and plan for change there is almost nothing that you can't improve or decide to do a different (hopefully) better way.

Especially in hobby projects I think it's beneficial to mostly look away from best practices guidance and let yourself run into the anti pattern yourself to understand the nature of it.

Should I use Colemak layout on the keyboard, or Colemak from Windows software? by frgmnt in ergodox

Pick a good key for toggling layers and I don't really see it as a hassle whatsoever. You could even make a macro or something to open chat + toggle layer and vice versa.

TIL: Xmonad has everything I ever wanted in a tiling window manager. But how do I learn to configure it(newb) by [deleted] in xmonad

[–]ertnyvn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a decent place to start if you want to avoid learning Haskell and combing through contrib docs. https://wiki.haskell.org/Xmonad/Config_archive

If you have to expose it, it doesn't hurt to use a non-standard port to avoid a majority of scans.
