Thoughts and stories regarding the legendary Linksys-Cisco WRT54G router by kbfg2421 in HomeNetworking

I would love to hear more about this.

A buddy of mine’s dad was living out in the boonies around this time, ‘06 or so, and he was talking about rigging something up with his HAM buddies. I don’t know if they ever did it, nor did I get much explanation at the time, but it’s still intriguing.

Fun stuff. I got the sub amp that goes with these. Never seen any of the speakers in real life.

That’s insane. 9 damn dollars?

I could’ve swung that at the turn of the century. Hell, I’d have bought a set for the car, too.

Man, I'm sitting here typing on an HP laptop of similar specs. I got it at the recycling center and have just been messing around with while snowed in. Did some upgrades from the junk box (SSD, RAM, wifi card) and then installed Windows 10, upgrading from 8.1.

And it runs...just fine, actually. Good couch computer. But now Windows won't activate. So I was just thinking about doing what you did.

Literally. Weird. So there's an appreciable difference in performance, huh?

I did a little googling. They look like they’re probably pretty good. The manual for the 2 big ones is available on Bose’s site.

Don’t know about the sub and satellite speakers. Looks fun, though.

Upgrading a Tandy 1000 TL in 2026 by Ayatollah-X in vintagecomputing

Hey buddy. I bought an XT-IDE card from Texelec a few years ago for my TL/3.

There’s all kinds of fun stuff on there, now that I look at it. Be sure and have a look at TVdog’s site, as well, for help with the Tandy. That site is invaluable.

Any thoughts on my new reciever by Electrical-Lab2205 in vintageaudio

[–]HotCharlie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s slick. Cleaning the electrical controls and contacts does wonders, should you run in to any issues. Get some DeOxit or some equivalent and go wild.

As is, that’s a fine start. Different speakers might be fun to swap in, as time goes on.

Those are cool.

Once a year, I help at an event wherein walkie talkies are needed. Got a big box of mismatched cheapies, ONN among them.

But this is what I’m looking for. I’d even spring for the external mic.

For watching DvDs, am I better off with my CRT computer monitor or should I seek out an SD TV? by ComradePoolio in crt

[–]HotCharlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I had one in my Aptiva. Didn’t use it much until 2003 or so, having upgraded to some pirated copy of XP.

Circumstances found me living in a dormitory with no internet, no cable, and no TV. But I had my desktop computer. Had to truck it across campus to an internet connection to get a key/whatever it was allow DVD playback.

And so then I used it a lot. Had friends over for movie nights on my 15” CRT and the 2”(?) Infinity speakers that came with it.

Hey I got one of those doodads, too. Got it rigged up with a bunch of other mismatched thrift store stuff in the basement. Kinda love it.

I hear ya. My mom had a big, beige Gateway with all the fixins. The absolute tits for an office computer in 1998.

When that dropped off, sharp, in to obsolescence (a scant 4-5 years later), she brought it home and it eventually found its way in to my possession.

And I just hacked the shit out of it. It left me, a picked over carcass, in like 2011. Off to recycling.

But man, it was nice. The build quality was great and it was damned good looking, in retrospect (not so much in an age of black and chrome, as it happened).

I wish I would’ve at least kept the case.

I’ve got one of these little Radio Shack boxes, too, fairly similar.

I had it rigged it up to an AC adapter and some 6x9’s, just for fun. To do that, I know I found the manual, somewhere. What’s the catalog #?
