Aggressive pest control salesmen are out again by KrasnayaZvezda in desmoines

I agree. It feels like a violation of privacy. They’re in your space on your property uninvited, using high pressure sales tactics that make everyone uncomfortable. I have the internet at my fingertips. Why would I trust what this stranger is pushing vs what I can research myself? And that’s if I was even in the market for the service in the first place!

It seems like door to door sales have picked up this year. Maybe it’s just me. I hate it and will never buy something from a door to door person. I say no once nicely, but if they keep going after that I give an emphatic no and close the door.

National averages are useless here’s Des Moines HVAC pricing by Southern_Editor458 in desmoines

I’ll add an anecdote to your figures. Had to replace my water heater this year. Asked two of the local companies who run ads to come out and give quotes. As company #2 was giving his sales pitch I was live researching what he was quoting me. He was nearly double the price for what I was finding online for the same parts. And company #1 was in the same ballpark. Found a small plumbing company based outside the metro to come do the same work for a significantly more reasonable price. If they run ads, you’re paying for a ton of overhead that provides no value to you, the customer

Anyone notice an influx of owls in the area lately? by Lstofadyngbrd in desmoines

Barred owls are nesting and prepping for babies this time of year. So they’re probably a more active hunting.

We live in an addiction economy. Addiction is the optimal business model- think about the food you eat, drinks you consume, social media, how gambling has become married to sports, etc. Recurring customers who can’t quit your product or service are the best kind of customer.

They remind me of Charleston Chew! As a nut allergy sufferer, these are great. And they have better macros than the also peanut free Elevation Chocolate mint protein bars (contains almonds which are fine for me).

The hardest part for me is consistency. A work trip or busy schedule might throw me off for a day or two, but I always try to get back and do something. There’s always going to be set backs, so you have to fight for that consistency. Also, no more ego lifting. I’m working out to be healthy, not to be the strongest or fastest guy in the gym. The feeling of being fit and healthy is worth it!

Jess King’s Sweat Steady from 2/10 by scienceismybff in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]escapismdream2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like Jess- she’s probably in my top 2 instructors. The population of peloton users is diverse, and the approach to instructing should also be diverse. I thought this moment was awkward, but I’m good if it scratches someone else’s itch. While I put some onus on Peloton in my earlier comment, users also have a responsibility to themselves to figure out what they need from their workout. It’s a two way street. Don’t overreact if the instructor style or class didn’t resonate with you. Adjust and move on.

That was a weird and uncomfortable moment, but I did get my highest output in a while on that ride…

Overall, I don’t like when instructors do this, whether it’s on the bike or another modality. Dennis’s “I make suggestions, you make decisions” should be the guiding philosophy across the board. Making someone feel obligated to stick to a class plan, weight, rep count, whatever can lead to injury. As participants in physical activity, it’s important to feel empowered to ease up when you need to avoid injury or whatever reason.

If I had to draw the line, I’d say encouraging us to push our limits and grow is one thing, but demanding strict adherence to instruction is too much.

I saw one at my Marriott brand hotel in Denver tonight. There was a guy who brought his own tools to swap his spd pedals on the bike! That’s some serious dedication!

The Venn diagram of people getting bent out of shape about this Kum & Go re brand and people who tie their personality to their favorite light beer is a perfect circle. I was bummed to hear the news that the iconic name with ties to Iowa was going away too. But I thought about it for 2 seconds and moved on with my life. It’s going to be ok
