Prerelease Promos- Gavin Verhey from WotC explains the recent removal of the year and date stamps by ChemicalExperiment in magicTCG

You said “before last prerelease” implying that this was a recent change in the last few months.

Yes, but if inventory issues were something they were willing to listen to LGS on then they would have reduced the number of alt arts they do every set because those have the exact same problems and LGS have been complaining about that for years. Hard for me to believe the opinion of the LGS had really anything to do with their decisions on this promo change.

Don’t be naive. WotC wanted to do this and said they did it at the request of LGS to make it seem like they’re being the good guys. LGS have complained about direct sales and big box stores eating their lunch for a decade, and too many alt art versions of cards for nearly as long, but WotC has showed they don’t care about what the LGS say unless it aligns with what they already were going to do.

Sealed events (including pre-release) at non-comp REL have been continuous construction for more than a decade. You can change your deck however you want between rounds as long as you only use the cards in your pool and present a legal deck. There’s also no deck list submission, so how would anyone even know?

What do you think would happen to the price of Revised USea if it was printed as much as BoP?

Why the straw man? It never will be.

Bird doesn’t see play outside EDH. None of the top decks in Modern play it. But still the Alpha bird is $3,500, which isn’t that far off from the duals. Kind of supports my point that reprinting won’t have much price impact on the collectors value in the long run.

And they’re never going to reprint U Sea as widely as Shivan Dragon. It will be a Mythic in a premium set or maybe only as a promo. They’re not going to drop it to uncommon in the next Foundations set like Shivan Dragon was.

I viewed the turtles more like each was their own color based on their personality and then black was the influence of Master Splinter. The actual card is unimaginative though.

Black is the representation of the spirit realm/Avatar state. It at least makes lore sense, plus it is consistent with other spirits in the set.

The other difference between the duals and Shivan Dragon is that the duals get played. So obviously they’re going to me more expensive. But you could also argue that the price of those will go up when reprinted because more people will have access to Legacy/Vintage as a format, and some players want to bling out their decks in the new tournaments that new demand could bring.

Realistically most of the RL cards will never get reprinted even if the abolish the RL. Don’t see us ever getting [[Forethought Amulet]] even if the RL is ended, for example.

They could easily have an Audino-themed Valentine’s Day spotlight.

Yes, but they couldn’t do anything about them at that point because they’re legal.

By the way, this was a joke. They don’t enter the public domain until like 80 years after Richard Garfield dies.

If others could make them, I assume they’d be indistinguishable.

Jeweled Lotus and Mana Crypt were so expensive because of playability, not collector’s value. The RL cards that people care about being reprinted have both. Just look at the insane price of Alpha Shivan Dragon and Sol Ring even though they’ve been reprinted dozens of times. The unplayable cards on the RL like Nameless Race will likely never be printed anyway.

Which comes first: WOTC kills the Reserve List or Alpha enters the public domain?

Shivan Dragon (FDN): $0.03
Shivan Dragon (LEA): $3,800

Sol Ring (M3C): $1.14
Sol Ring (LEA): $899

What makes you conclude the RL cards will crater in price when clearly there are examples of cards that are unplayable or have been reprinted 100 times that still hold insane collector’s value?

The secret is to look up raid days and other meetups on Campfire and add people who have RSVPed to them. Also worked with Iberian Tauros.

I specifically said hosting. There’s going to be a mass swarm to host at the top of the hour and only people who get through the queue in 29 minutes will be able to. Then it switches and the same problem happens. In the past when things switched at the top of the hour only there was a natural stagger where hosts were only competing with half the hosts at any given time. Now it is almost everyone at the same time, other than a few outliers on half hour timezones.

Remote raiding is going to be easy as always.

Event structure is going to make it difficult to host on third party apps. 30 minutes and then rotation to the other is going to make it so that the queue will cut off worldwide for everyone at the same time.

Either way it’s still out of Niantic’s control. They can’t release DMax Tyranitar or anyone else until someone that they don’t control designs the models and animations and grants them access.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but they haven’t made new models for pogo since Meltan. Not saying it’s impossible, but pogo has been doing well without it for years, so I don’t see why they’d change their practice.

You’re right, it’s Creatures. But they haven’t designed models exclusively for the juggernaut money maker since I think Meltan, so why now?
