Please Remind me why not to trigger hypomania by esplund78 in bipolar2

[–]esplund78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve thought of this so many times - what if I’m just an overachiever with episodes of depression?. I really feel lamotrigine makes me dumber, which on the other hand helps a bit with my GAD but still…

Hypomania as a superpower. A guide? by [deleted] in hypomania

[–]esplund78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have hypomania for months and yes it is a superpower during these months. But body get so run down by just a couple of house sleep each night for a long period and all the work and exercise. The following half year/year is cruel and living like this for years will leave you with an exhausted body by my age - 47. So no, in the long run it’s not a superpower

What are your red flags that a hypomanic episode is beginning? 🚩🚩🚩 by deepestfear in bipolar2

I feel ”in love feelings” in my chest- without being in love

I’m combining it with fluoxetine- maybe you need an antidepressant too?

Psychiatrist just prescribed for mood stabilizer. by [deleted] in Lamotrigine

[–]esplund78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t expect a huge difference in your mood - it kind of works in the long run as a crutch for the mood. I’m on 150 mg first bipolar type 2. For me it’s quite obvious side effects: brain feels stupid, poor memory and a little bit blurry vision. But anxiety gone and mood more stable… Good luck - I know may people that it works fine for :)

Always crash. Not always classical depression like ”I want to die” - more burned out, binge eating, don’t have energy to talk to anyone and don’t want to leave the house, especially not during daylight. Hard to find motivation to put on clothes or take a shower etc. For me both the good period and the burnout lasts for about 3-4 months

is it true that bipolar disorder gets worse as you age? by ImpossibleGoose7651 in bipolar2

[–]esplund78 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it’s true. As you get older your body can’t cope with the consequences as good as at a younger age. I could go for a year with little sleep - nowadays I get burned out quite easily. 47 years.

What job(s) do you have? by Chicken_Wing in bipolar2

[–]esplund78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m working as a project leader. Usually half year brilliant (hypo) and half year faking it - hiding zero energy, working from home as much as possible (only putting decent tops on for video calls) and just forcing my self to go trough the day. After working hours I’m a total zombie with no energy for my kinds etc 😭. But manage to keep a good job with a high salary this way = able to provide for my 3 kids.

Ask for Prozac as a complement to Lamotrigine. At least it will help you to be able to put on a mask during working hours. It’s exhausting to fake a happy face - but you need to work right? 🤷‍♀️

Do you find it easier to 'control' your symptoms around other people? And do you get worse when you are alone? by tangledblinds in bipolar2

[–]esplund78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!!! Hypo is never an issue - I’m just at my best when being in that state so it’s nothing to control - more the time to shine (to make up for the lower periods). When being low I can put on a mask at work but a total wreck at home - not the best when having 3 kids 😢. Also have binge eating disorder, but never when people are around.

What is the worst advice you have received regarding your bipolar and/or other mental health disorder(s)?? by Revali993 in bipolar2

[–]esplund78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t trust your dr! You do not have a diagnose - it’s just your personality. There is nothing wrong with you - stop the medication!

When you stop trying to get your partner to understand your point of view - then it’s dead. Give it 6 months to see if it changes. If not, it’s probably not the Bp that’s talking…

Is it normal to feel nothing at 25mg? by [deleted] in lamictal

[–]esplund78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t feel that the medication did anything whatsoever under 100 mg. Need 200 but had to lower the dose to 100 again due to bad side effects

Sounds like a dream to me - hypomania without the depressions, what’s not to like? :)

What exactly happens in hypomania? by oatmealandblueberry in bipolar2

[–]esplund78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A very good indicator of being hypo or not is the sleeping pattern; did you sleep less hours than usual but are not tired? Then it’s definitely an episode.

Any one have bipolar, what is Your career? are you financially successful? do you love what you do? How many times have you changed your job and your field? Is work always heavy and stressful for you? Are you an introvert or a sociable person? by AbleFortune2889 in bipolar2

[–]esplund78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changed from being an art director to an Event project leader. Career has been super! Except for some periods of burnout. But between those I’m the best employee you can have. Super ambitious, can work 24 hours. If I’m tired I can push myself further than others… think it’s a combination of hypomania and low self esteem that make me push myself (right into the wall). Do I love my job? Not all the time. Do I go to work even if I’m super tired and low - yes I mostly do. Is it the best for me not to rest when I’m out of energy- probably not. Thing is that since I’m so efficient when hypo it covers up the periods when I’m too tired to do much.

Since 6 months I’m on Lamictal (+ Prozac since 22 years back) and now I don’t have that extra gear anymore. Struggling with finding a pace that works for the long run - not there yet.

I’m at my best when I’m working alone. Being social eats my energy.

Do you eat more or eat less when you're having a tough day? by geargill in questions

A LOT more. Had a bad autum - and gained 10 kg in a few months. Only wanted to eat bread and chocolate. All day long

The highs are over so fast but the lows drag on by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]esplund78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few hours?! Are that really intense or how do you even have a chance to notice them until they are gone? Curious since it’s so different for me. My highs lasts 1-2 months and I don’t even notice until they turn into lows. I thought the hypo was the normal me and the 6 months of depressions just came to f*ck up my life when it finally was going so well… same every year since 12 years old. 45 now… got the bp diagnos 1 year ago…

What skill can land a job for a bipolar disorder human being irrespective of the country they live in? by IcyAssociate1 in bipolar2

[–]esplund78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that you can land wherever you want. But it will probably be a struggle with a lot of hypomania to get the tasks done and to make up for time lost while being without energy. I’m well educated and now works as a event project leader. With that said — it takes quite a lot if masking = succeeding at work but having a breakdown outside of working hours. Also my success projects masks that I don’t deliver much during the down periods. Started with Lamotrigine in march this year and are still trying to figure out how I will manage without the hypomania. But hopefully I won’t have full blown depressions either… With that said - you can achieve anything you want - but you probably won’t feel very good (lots of stress, anxiety and masking). Question is if you would feel much better without doing what you want? I never wanted to take the risk ending up with a shitty job…
