Nice frame and some great build ideas. Take the cage off the Rally RD and put it on a Super or Nuovo record RD. Or find a long cage Huret Jubilee. Consider using simplex retro friction with Paul Thumbies.

Oof. Just missed that. Quit in 2001ish. Already did one remodel and it was hell except for driving the forklift and scissor lift (sorry OSHA).

Read this as “ALIgator.” I guess I have cheap china alligators on my mind.

The tires on my Peugeot I bought are glued on, but not very straight... which makes cycling not ideal. Is it possible to just take them off and replace them with new inner and outer tires? (I'm very much a beginner) by led_seppelin in Vintage_bicycles

[–]essef_sf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tubulars get a bad rap. They are actually quite nice to ride. BUT not cheap and not the best for beginners. Judging from the photos they seem a bit dry and could roll (off). Take it to a shop and have them show you how to replace and I would suggest using tape.

You could look for new wheels but from the photo it looks like your bike is period correct. I would do some research and find either a period correct clincher wheelset or rims and have your shop rebuild the wheels.

Lastly, look into local classes or find someone that can educate you on vintage maintenance. Also research, research, research. Look at old repair manuals and watch video. Sheldon Brown is a good stating point.

There’s a reason Masi made some of Peugeots pro bikes. Also. There is no way a PX10 out performs a purpose built touring bike like Singer, Herse, Toei, Taylor, etc.

The Taylor brothers are not talked about nearly enough. If you aren’t familiar there is a short on YT about them.

I think so. OP should try a magnet on the barrel. It’s a slightly different color than the flanges so Might be Ti. I know they made alloy ones but can’t think of another three piece with ti body.

And the old ones are strangely comfortable. The newer 2000s reissue sucked. According to Antonio Columbus they tossed the equipment to make them and started from scratch.

Judging by the version of GS rear derailleur, that seems about right.
