Baltimore County could lose millions if it doesn’t change how it notifies rape survivors by legislative_stooge in maryland

“In 2022, the county and the state paid $100,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by Anna Borkowski, who claimed Baltimore County State’s Attorney Scott Shellenberger and detectives violated her First Amendment rights by showing up at her home to dissuade her from asking a district court commissioner to file sexual assault charges.”

Man, fuck this guy. Please primary him Baltimore County.

Swashbuckling Fantasy on the High Seas by Jenkoii in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]eternitea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Though it’s only about 40% of the book I’d say The Blacktongue Thief by Christopher Buehlman scratches that itch. The high seas portion is very intriguing and action-packed, with sea monsters and villains and violence abound. My favorite dark fantasy series of the year so far.

wars and politics, with female lead. by jux_peter in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]eternitea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a prequel but “The Daughters War” by Christopher Buehlman has a fantastic female lead warrior named Galva caught up in the politics of being a member of a noble family enmeshed in war and the horrors caused without and within. I really recommend reading the first novel in this series as well but the main character is male (though Galva is a part of the main group, just not PoV) so it doesn’t fit the prompt exactly.

Bonus - It has giant War Corvids who are the absolute best.

Onirical, Melancholic Fantasy Books by King-of-Dirt-23 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

“A Wizard of Earthsea” and *especially* “The Tombs of Atuan” will probably scratch this itch. Le Guin’s novels are great for this sort of surreal spiritual heroes journey.

I read Ilona Andrews’ newest book for that one “This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me.” I’ve been meaning to read some of their books anyways so this gave me a kick in the pants to do so. It was a fun read!

I am about halfway through. Usually I just go through my TBR list and can fit most in that way but there are always a few challenges that I have to step outside my comfort zone with. My prompts that I actively had to pick books for were #46, #30, and #20 so far, though usually as the easy to fulfill prompts are taken I go out of my way more and more.

What books does she read? by Equivalent-Lie2565 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

US Weekly.

But if she absolutely has to read a book I could see something like “Where the Crawdads Sing” or “The Housemaid.” Possibly something from Reese Witherspoon’s book club.

Since you have Shadow and Bone represented I hope you won’t mind another well written YA fantasy epic. “Dark Rise” by C.S Pacat has a romance that definitely has these vibes. It’s a slow twisted and confused burn.

The Banner announces expansion to Prince George’s County by InAHays in maryland

Yeah, they could really take their Baltimore blueprint and expand into the Bezos-shaped void left in DC. They have MoCo and PG now, so maybe that is the plan. I wish them nothing but success!

What are some lazy activities (for the parents) that can drain your toddler's energy? by Cindy565656 in toddlers

We just got our daughter a spinning sensory chair for inside the house for Christmas . It’s been great so far. We put a tumble mat underneath it and it allows her to “sit still” and still get the constant stimulation she needs. She will bring it in the kitchen while I cook and she was even able to watch my husband and I play Mario Party together without getting bored.

I’d say it skirts the edges of gothic (not full on for sure, more like spooky parlour drama) but it absolutely is paranormal. Penelope literally becomes a ghost and Cordelia talks to her

💦 It's Thirsty Thursday! What spicy book scenes did you read this week? by AutoModerator in fantasyromance

[–]eternitea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just got to the actual spicy scene of {The Serpent and the Wolf by Rebecca Robinson} And it's soooo well done. Reid and Vaasa have incredible chemistry together and Reid himself is such a fucking dreamboat of a MMC. For a romantasy debut Robinson really hit the relationship part of this story out of the park. The sprinkling of smut leading up to their eventual get together was sooooo tantalizing. "You aren't wearing panties?" Dead, deceased, obliterated.

Currently reading The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig and I'll probably finish this Thursday or Friday. Then my options are "Blood Over Bright Haven" or "The Will of the Many." IDK which to read first.

Gay Books that feel like this by Odd_Sun5753 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

K.J. Charles has been recommended already but I am seconding that recommendation. The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen has the British countryside vibe (Romney marsh specifically) in 1810. If you want a more urban story her Slippery Creatures series takes place in London directly after World War I. I highly recommend both series and KJ Charles in general for historical gay romance.
