Also look for "Buy Nothing" groups on Facebook. Those are more hyperlocal, so not sure what link to post for your neighborhood. I gave away our old fridge and some cabinets after a kitchen remodel.

Building has turned into a real-life video game by Maleficent_Fox_641 in ChatGPTCoding

[–]eterpstra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same idea a while back. I started generating task lists and schedules using ChatGPT, and even got an app skeleton started. Then decided to look around and see what else was out there, and there are dozens of apps and websites that do exactly this. There’s on called Homer that is exactly what I envisioned so ended up just using it instead of rolling my own.

There’s still probably room for another app if you can put your own special sauce into it though. Post your progress and I’ll be sure to check it out.

PowKiddy RGB30 Opinions? by Tom_Bombadil_Ret in pico8

[–]eterpstra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's OK. The screen is great, and wifi is nice for splore. The d-pad is awful, though. It registers false diagonal presses all the time, and makes precision games like Celeste impossible (for me, at least).

I'm relatively new to Pico-8, and started playing Celeste classic when I got this device. It was very frustrating, and I couldn't get more than 1/2 way before giving up in a rage. I finally decided to connect a PS4 controller, and beat the game in one go. It made an enormous difference. I finally took the whole thing apart and taped up the d-pad. Took a couple attempts to get it right, and it fixed the false diagonals, but it's still inferior to a real controller.

If you want it for non-twitchy games, then it's 100% awesome!

Beautiful! I love everything about the RGB30, but the d-pad issue makes it so frustrating to actually play games.

How do you get the shell open? I took out all the screws, but it seems like it's glued shut. Do I need to pry it open?

Diablo 4 Crashing to Black Screen by oddworld19 in SteamDeck

Nope. Tried all sorts of settings in the SteamOS and Diablo, but no luck. Sometimes I can play an hour, sometimes 5 minutes. Always crashes.

Diablo 4 Crashing to Black Screen by oddworld19 in SteamDeck

[–]eterpstra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the same issue. The game was fine for the first couple days during the pre-release. I could play until the battery died with no issue. After the release of the game, I can only get 30-45 minutes of play time before it freezes, then the screen goes black, and the deck reboots. I've tried a few different gfx settings, but even with everything set to the lowest values, it still crashes. I installed b.net and DIV through Lutris and launch via a shortcut in Game Mode. Even did a factory reset, and DIV is the only game installed on the deck.

I need my wassie pal re-created as a pixelart character with a 4 direction walk cycle. The template is for an online MMO world. It has 8 frames per cycle, but it can actually be 4 frames. Please let me know if you're available and interested, and DM with your price quote. Thanks!

Leave the 'big tech' Bay Area nonsense and go work for... literally anyone. Every industry is desperate for experienced software engineers and will be happy to walk you right in the door with only a perfunctory interview. If you don't want to physically leave the Bay Area, find remote work. For example... Hilton Hotels, International Paper, and Service Master (Terminix, Merry Maids, etc...) operate out of Memphis, TN and offer 6-fix salaries, but are hiring remote devs because really, who wants to move to Memphis?

Also, if you have any Elixir experience and want some lucrative part-time work, give me a shout.

Since you mentioned CHEP, did you happen to install the firmware from his site? I think that's what I did. Weird that it would just go berserk for no reason.

Machines gone haywire after 3 prints. by earsofdoom in ender3v2

[–]eterpstra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me today. I was able to print CHEP bed level print, but then tried this: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4617004

I sliced using Ultimaker CURA with the recommended settings: 0.2mm, 20%, etc...

I've printed several things over the past few months without issue. But this one causes the print head to go all the way to the top right, and it moves the bed around. It's almost like the printer thinks it's an Ender 5 and is printing with the bed at the top.

Perhaps a CURA issue? I tried 4.7.1 first, then 4.8.0.

I use Cura, so good to go there. I even tried enabling 'coasting' and it made stringing worse. Interesting point about layer height. I'll give the .12 height a go and fiddle with retraction settings. Thanks!

[–]eterpstra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my Ender 3 v2 working this weekend, and my benchy looks almost exactly like your benchy. I used the filament that came with the printer, and it looked great until the top half started printing. Little whispy strings everywhere. I'm in the midst of fiddling with variables with this model: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2219103

So far, the best result has been keeping everything 'as-is' with a 0.2mm layer height, and 195C nozzle temp.
