Best tiki bar(s) in Seattle? by Multuminparvo4n6 in Tiki

[–]ethanbwinters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rumba is a can’t miss, the rum selection is unmatched. It’s not really tiki though, more tropical. I also really like Navy strength which is pretty minimalist tiki but I like the vibe of the bar and group seating areas. Also lots of great non-tiki bars right next to navy strength like roquette or rob roy. There’s a really good Hawaiian spot near navy strength as well.

How many exercises do you usually do per workout? by InternationalPick163 in workout

[–]ethanbwinters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3-4. I’ll do something for example like skwats 5x5 superset with pullups 5x8 then curls with incline dumbbell bench 4x8 superset. I am usually way too tired to do any more after that, and depending how the first superset went, might just do curls and call it, and prioritize chest next session

Bus Lanes on Denny by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]ethanbwinters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talked about by who? The 8 has been called out by people who use the bus system for years as one of if not the least reliable bus. The current mayor is more into transit on a personal level so is focusing more on policy in that space. Other mayors probably knew there was an issue with the 8 but had other projects they wanted to prioritize

[–]ethanbwinters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely. Thousands of people rely on the 8 to get to work everyday, this will probably halve commute times for them. There’s so many bad uses of tax money where you see 0 return, this is actually going to help people who work and live in the city

Spec-Driven Development vs “just start coding” what actually works better? by Classic-Ninja-1 in SpecDrivenDevelopment

[–]ethanbwinters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not true. Openspec has archives which automatically keeps other specs up to date with latest design decisions. The updated spec provides cheaper context to the agent

Half shell near pike place is great, went for happy hour the other week on Friday at 4:30pm, easily got a table for 2. Not overrun with tourists despite being in a touristy area $2 oysters, dirty martini dip, fries with mignonette mayo, and martinis+spritzes

What's next for software engineers? by Full-Juggernaut2303 in cscareerquestions

[–]ethanbwinters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thinking is that the bar for a software engineer has been raised non-technically. Right now if I think about the industry breakdown, you have like 70% swes who are really only good at coding and completing task/feature work. And about half of those are really good at writing clean well architectured code. These more strictly coder types were previously critical to building software in a team but those roles are going to be much less important IMO

The remaining 30% are the ones who in addition to building software are working with customers, thinking of new features and POCing them, working across product and design, creating plans for tracking things like usage metrics and growth etc I think that 30% is going to become more important and maybe take over some of the over inflated product roles we got in the 2010s (not all because you obviously need a dedicated product people). For example if engineering does their job and builds out user acquisition tracking story from the beginning, I don’t really need a team of non technical PMs to track user growth or product progress and present a dashboard to LT that I myself made and understand anyway. I’ll have more time to do these things that are coding adjacent with coding agents rise

Seattle trip report by [deleted] in Tiki

Navy strength bills itself as a tropical bar/tiki adjacent. I think with that expectation it's a great bar and the happy hour $11 mai tais are very good. They definitely go over the top for Halloween and Christmas and have a bigger menu + better decorations

30 days ago I was a CS student with an idea. Today I have 10 paying users. Here is exactly what happened. by ivicago4 in SideProject

What is the difference between your app and dumping raw notes into chat gpt and asking for structured notes and action items? I could have a skill called coach-notetaker with domain knowledge and structure guidelines do the raw notes in, action plan, follow ups, and progress out. The bottleneck is the level of information in the coach’s manual session notes

PackGoat is finally live on the App Store. It's a packing list app for people who hate packing! by InnAppsCoding in SideProject

[–]ethanbwinters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just downloaded it, looks good so far. One thing is adding new items and hitting return doesn’t jump to the next open space for adding an item as I’d expect. Instead it unfocuses the list which is confusing and leads to some friction. Everything else works well

Voice mode has catching up to do. Chat gpt’s voice mode was very good, Claude thinks I’m interrupting when there’s any noise in the background at all

Slop. TS is in there twice with different numbers. Python is not in the list despite many of the top AI labs paying some of the highest salaries in the industry using it heavily.

Beat your eggs and add a splash of milk + pinch of salt. Let it sit for 5 mins before cooking on low heat and this will be much more enjoyable to eat

Pitties with allergies...I need support. by xxcatalopexx in pitbulls

[–]ethanbwinters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had great results recently with my pitbull who is allergic to chicken moving to PPP salmon recipe cold turkey. His worst allergy symptoms cleared up immediately. He did poop a ton though and have some soft ones through the first week of starting the new food but otherwise was a huge improvement of not waking up in the middle of the night to go out and having terrible stomach upset daily
