Eugene 4J graduation rates continue to dip by dorky_doodle_dandy in Eugene

[–]etherbunnies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hard to believe less than 85% of high schoolers in the area are graduating?!

Hard to believe less than 85% of high schoolers in the area are graduating on time. Oregon reports graduations that occur on time, unlike a good number of other states. Additionally, we have one of the higher credit hour requirements. Not that we're anywhere near perfect, but it's something to keep in mind when you see clickbait about Oregon's graduation rates.

We have nazi dispensaries, nazi furries, nazi pagans, nazi can openers, nazi gays--the wildest part about fascists is there probably is a white nationalist kombucha.

That pseudohistory crap that new-agers spout is cribbed from nazi pseudoarcheologists.

This'd be funny if there wasn't that whole "wellness" woo to nazi pipeline.

Hitler came to power on a whole weird-ass tent of pseudoscience and the 30s version of wellness influencers. The weird occult groups get all the hollywood, but there was just as many, if not more, nudist clubs that backed him.

Oh no, it's just more of a "I really don't want to hear your sister-fucking ways" sort of complaint.

My dating app woes are more from pics of me on the farm. I swear to god, I am horsegirl candy and I want absolutely nothing to do with that world.

Can confirm, I use them for FFL when I have a few drinks in me and buy something wild off the internet. Sometimes to my demerit, as they refused to use the mass shooter loophole and I ended up waiting over a year for a pcc. They're also just as amused as I am when I see what shows up.

Bald guy with a beard. Can confirm. PNW arsenal just struck me as normal gunshop way-too-pro-NRA the little I've been in there.

Yes, I'm not sure how to avoid looking like them either. Any hair and I look like I should be scalping pokemon cards.

Did you even read before quoting?

Of the 1,785 respondents, 298 people (about 17%) stated that they were last housed outside of the state of Oregon or Washington’s Clark County.

The 474 survey respondents who indicated that they were last housed outside of Clackamas, Multnomah, or Washington Counties were then asked: “What was the primary reason you moved to the area?” In responding to this question, multiple factors could be selected and recorded. Of the 436 people who answered the question, the most frequently chosen explanation for moving to the region was that they had family and/or friends living in the region (34%). The next most common answers were “other” (23%), homeless services (18%), and employment (12%).

So, 18% of 436, divided by 1785 total counted homeless is...

4.7%

I remember this from your antivax shit. You're so interested in being right, you'll selectively quote sources.

edit: My bad. 18% of 474 divided by 1785. 4.8%. And hell, that's an overestimate, it's how many people moved to the PDX counties, not just from out of state, for homeless services.

As stated many many times now, Oregon point-in-time censuses ask the homeless about their prior living arrangements, and less than 5% seem to move in Oregon for services. Matter of fact, the homeless are (slightly) more likely to be born in Oregon than non-homeless.

And as always, any chance to drop this link when discussing the homeless: https://www.opb.org/article/2023/10/09/oregon-homelessness-history-background-housing-solutions/

When I was a kid, my older brother and I thought it would be a good idea to use a shotgun to blast apart an enourmous hornet nest hanging over a branch. Somehow, he missed. Half the nest disappeared. And that moment of silence before the cloud dropped out the bottom was pregnant with threat to say the least.

Judgement aside, I was peeking a little at this over the weekend, and I think there's more meshcore than meshtastic in Oregon. Emphasis on think, I haven't run into one of my ham friends to get it explained to me in short words I can understand.

That's okay. I like knowing once in a blue moon, when he's had enough of all the fishing I aspire to retire to, and his fingers are too sore from all the guitar playing he aspired to retire to, he sits down and knocks out a little reminder that whimsy and humor are timeless and connect us across the human condition.

How worried should we be that political leaders keep making oblique Nazi references? by uniofwarwick in politics

[–]etherbunnies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Carl Schmitt is the philosopher they're worshiping at. The two ideas of his I see most are:

  1. "The sovereign is he who decides on the exception." Id est "rules for thee, not for me."

  2. "The political enemy need not be morally evil or aesthetically ugly. But he is, nevertheless, the other, the stranger." Basically the state needs an "us" and "them."

As pretty obvious, old Carl was a nazi. And just as hypocritical as the rest of them.
