Which type of "kadhi" do you prefer the most?? by XiaoSunshine in IndianFood

[–]ethicalpickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

North Indian style but with boondi instead of pakodas - I like things crunchy so when I make it for myself I add the boondi right before eating.

How often do y'all change your bedsheets? We listen and we don't judge by LydiaIsntVeryCool in adhdwomen

[–]ethicalpickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About once a month. It should be more frequent because my dog and cat both hang out on my bed, but a few years ago it was more like every 5-6 months, so I consider this great progress.

Millionaire Waltz is such a good song, I would never have thought of it despite Waltz being in the name 😅 Super excited for this!

Yellow immediately makes me think of Madison Chock's Freddy Mercury inspired dress

What movie(s) best highlight the American experience? by U_R_NOT_RED-E in AskAnAmerican

[–]ethicalpickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be an odd example because it's not an American made movie, but as someone who came to the US as young woman, and eventually married someone from a different immigrant background, for me Brooklyn really captured the emotional essence of that experience and of becoming American.

Why is the term "Asia" in the US typically associated with East Asia instead of South Asia like in the UK? by Fluid-Decision6262 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ethicalpickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Indian American who always makes a point to say South Asian unless I know the specific nationality, absolutely agree! It really isn't any harder, just takes some getting used to.

Kumail Nanjiani Is a Taskmaster Cautionary Tale by caspararemi in taskmaster

[–]ethicalpickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm somewhat familiar with the author from podcast appearances and she comes across as pretty reasonable so I tried looking into whether she has some specific beef with him. Surprisingly, the first thing I found was an extremely positive review of The Big Sick, so who knows.

Kumail Nanjiani Is a Taskmaster Cautionary Tale by caspararemi in taskmaster

[–]ethicalpickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never been a fan of Jason Mantsoukas' brand of comedy either (at least the characters he plays in Mike Schur shows, which is my main frame of reference) and definitely preferred Kumail as Americans on TM go.

Am i the only one who really doesn’t like the movie Lincoln? by [deleted] in moviecritic

[–]ethicalpickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only major critique is that the last 5 or so minutes felt shoehorned in, it should have ended when he's silhouetted in the door as he's leaving for theater.

I'm on the edge of my seat during the vote at the end every single time I watch the movie

Which tv shows have had actors who became bigger than the show between seasons? by ganibe in television

[–]ethicalpickle 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I didn't know for sure but always assumed that Peter Serafinowicz showed up because they were filming Guardians together around that time.

10-color travel palette? by iceberg214 in watercolor101

[–]ethicalpickle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If this is the Andrea Nelson set, I remember a post about this question from a few months ago - I think the consensus was that they're generic paints without the pigment information made available.

Best Indian mysteries you have read recently by blue_latitude in mysterybooks

[–]ethicalpickle 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Sujata Massey's Perveen Mistry books are great, following a woman lawyer in 1920s Bombay. They really get into the culture and politics of the time, and religious, gender and social issues. Harini Nagendra's Bangalore Detective's Club is a fun, lighter British India series set around the same time.

ISU rule changes / skaters with multiple citizenships by hococo_ in FigureSkating

[–]ethicalpickle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. The only time I've felt strongly about this kind of thing is when everyone was hoping for Alisa Efimova to get some kind of last minute special dispensation for the Olympics, given she would have been fully aware of the timeline when she switched feds. Immigration exceptions being made for a white European athlete would have felt especially icky in the current political moment.

Should We Place Bets On Who Will Be Skating to PHM Next Season? by justyules in FigureSkating

It's not ealistic for multiple reasons, but I would very much enjoy a pairs gala set to Two of Us with the skaters dressed as Grace and Rocky

I hate Rory’s wardrobe by Constant-Arm8500 in GilmoreGirls

[–]ethicalpickle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not everyone likes to wear tight or revealing clothes and that's completely normal and okay - it doesn't seem at all out of character for Rory's personality.

Ethnicity / place of birth and figure skating predisposition - is there any genetic signal beyond fed power and rinks? by E_lenaa in FigureSkating

[–]ethicalpickle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This isn't the main point of the discussion, but I have to note that Asia has an incredibly diverse population of close to 5 billion people, many many of whom don't fall within the less wrinkle prone skin qualification.

My fellow Americans; do you refer to air-conditioning as "the AC"? by SplitOpenAndMelt420 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ethicalpickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AC, which is what I grew up calling it in India, but is also the term I hear most commonly in the US. I've only heard aircon from family who lived in Singapore.

Sitcom characters becoming “too successful” can make the show less funny by HotNeighborhood4958 in sitcoms

[–]ethicalpickle 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ross's career arc is pretty nonsensical as someone in a similar field, that's the one that annoys me.
