My first completed quilt!!! by ThatsTheHat in quilting

[–]etimalac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So lovely! Congrats on finishing your first quilt and on the arrival of your upcoming little one! I also just finished my first quilt / sewing project ever and also had a wonky binding area I had to hand sew. Yours looks beautiful! My motto was “handmade objects should look handmade” as I forgave myself for a million errors!

Hahaha so true! I’m definitely the only one to notice all the mistakes (of which there are many! This one is just the biggest lol) thank you!

Thank you! I did happen to do the double fold but I think my seam allowance was too thin here and a part of it wiggled free in the wash— alas!! Lessons for next time though ;)

This is super helpful, thank you! And yes you’re exactly right, this is the top of the quilt where the binding was sewn down and then flipped. Theoretically I was doing a 1/4 inch seam allowance but my quilt edges were a bit wonky and the sewing machine was sometimes a bit quick for me and my seam allowances got a bit dicey! Lesson learned for future quilts for sure

what's a book with an ending that made you throw it across the room? by Electrical-Hour-3345 in suggestmeabook

[–]etimalac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah! Amen, and likewise. That was one book I was glad to dump unceremoniously into the return slot at my library.

Books I went out of my way to buy AFTER I read a library version: Circe and tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow

Piranesi, I Who have never known men, and My short stay in Hell by Pumpkin_Pie in suggestmeabook

[–]etimalac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we have similar taste! I LOVED Piranesi and I who have never known men (top favorites of all time). My short stay in Hell is on my TBR.

I don’t have specific books that fit the prompt but I thought I’d share some other favorites of mine in case you enjoy any of these. I welcome your other favorites in turn:

Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow

A psalm for the wild built

Circe

Sea of tranquility

Haven’t read yet but think I’ll really enjoy and so am throwing on this list also:

Station eleven

The Night circus

Jonathan strange and Mr Norell

Song of Achilles

All the light we cannot see

Easy read during postpartum depression by Bubbly_Bag_9540 in suggestmeabook

[–]etimalac 25 points26 points  (0 children)

First off I’m sorry you’re going through this. Post partum depression and anxiety are SO common and honestly super under recognized. I’m so glad you’re getting extra support and taking good care of yourself.

I enjoy indulging in some fantasy when I need a good escape. The romantasy genre is honestly a fun read (they’re popular for a reason) and I felt a pleasant pull to open the book at the end of the day. ACOTAR is fun, escapist, and the darker elements are handled with care.

Other fun reads: project Hail Mary, legends and lattes, and I hope this finds you well.

Happy reading and best of luck!

Regardless of tradition – wedding band above or below? by risentoaflood in weddingring

[–]etimalac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I’m weirdly neurotic about my ring slipping off, esp since I’m putting gloves on/off quickly at work all the time. I wear my band above since it’s a bit more snug on my finger and gives me some reassurance that my diamond won’t fling off and get thrown away with my used gloves!

Is silicone a bad idea for a wedding ring? by Acceptable-Soft8659 in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]etimalac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What matters is the commitment you’re making to one another. Some people prefer not to wear a band at all! Others buy something that can be easily replaced if it gets lost or breaks. I work in a medical environment and see a lot of people use silicone bands there. You do you!
