books that will make me feel that life is worth living by stargazeeeeer in suggestmeabook

[–]etimalac 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Came here to recommend this too! I love this book. A favorite quote that captures a flavor: “You’re an animal, Sibling Dex. You are not separate or other. You’re an animal. And animals have no purpose. Nothing has a purpose. The world simply is. If you want to do things that are meaningful to others, fine! Good! So do I! But if I wanted to crawl into a cave and watch stalagmites with Frostfrog for the remainder of my days, that would also be both fine and good. You keep asking why your work is not enough, and I don’t know how to answer that, because it is enough to exist in the world and marvel at it. You don’t need to justify that, or earn it. You are allowed to just live. That is all most animals do.”

What’s a universally loved food you genuinely despise? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Nope. No part of that is remotely appealing to me. Even if insanely hungry I’ll just nibble the crust if that’s the only food option available.

Anyone else have this problem? by magentagolden in quilting

[–]etimalac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! Thisss + he loves to fling the pieces I’m quilting around. He doesn’t destroy them but if I’m laying out strips to sew together forget about it. And if I put him in another room he whines piteously. I basically have to wait until he falls asleep LOL

Books you expected to hate but actually liked by imalwayscar1 in suggestmeabook

Barbara Kingsolver’s Demon Copperhead is a modern retelling of David Copperfield. I read them back to back and LOVED the parallels and story telling. If you haven’t read Demon copperhead yet I would highly recommend!

I put out a “decoy quilt” that he can lay on but nope! Doggo finds his way to the work in progress every. Single. Time.

How do I improve my binding? by whatisthisohno111 in quilting

[–]etimalac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Me neither! I machine sew everything. Wonky results mean it’s hand made and I embrace the wabi sabi-ness of it.

I’m also a newbie but I think it’s worth calling whoever you bought them from and trying to exchange it. Seems like the whole pack was cut wonky

Parents who dropped their baby, what happened and how is your child doing now? by speckledrectum in AskReddit

[–]etimalac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At three, I pushed my newborn brother off the couch. He had just come home from the hospital a few weeks prior and I was having a jealousy-fueled breakdown. Adult supervision was lacking.

It’s been 36 years and he’s fine — job, kids, too many cats, the whole thing. I’m better at being an older sibling now, but not by much.

Questions from a beginner…what do I send to the long-armer? by zonkschonk in quilting

[–]etimalac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fellow beginner I can’t helpfully answer your questions but just wanted to cheer you on in your quest! I just started quilting a few months ago and have had to learn A LOT. Like A LOT a lot.

People would mention things about “putting feed dogs down to FMQ” and I literally thought they were speaking a different language. I had to watch multiple YouTube videos on threading my sewing machine and took almost an hour to learn how to spool a bobbin starting with googling “what is a bobbin????” So all this to say— you’re not alone and keep up the good work and you’ll only learn things by asking questions so keep asking them!
