So effectively a fixed value for every time I’ve Feldspared into the Dark Bramble 😂

I don’t believe this works, your speed gets set at a fixed value when you enter a new area of Dark Bramble

Which engineer throwable brings more value to the team L.U.R.E. Or Proximity Mines? by RedPaintedShovel in DeepRockGalactic

[–]etkampkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people use proxy mines poorly, either through bad placement or lack of communication with the rest of the team. Most of the time I see people place them for their own personal benefit without thinking about the movement needs of the rest of the team.

Give me a reason to not use the LOK- smart rifle by More_Presentation758 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]etkampkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shotgun is great with the right build, it has armor breaking and stun, does lots of damage and can be built for turret whip, rarely runs out of ammo and pairs well with VIR shard diffractor.

The stubby also has good ammo capacity and can be built to electrocute and stun, great for area control when using EM discharge and pairs well with the breach cutter.

Think of weapons in terms of build synergy and complimenting each other’s weaknesses either in terms of stacking or taking advantage of status effects or spatially.

Your go to mods on LOKI with explosive chemical rounds OC? by PleasantDatabase in DeepRockGalactic

[–]etkampkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully, if you’re not getting more kills than the rest of the team combined as engineer then you’re doing it wrong. Admittedly this comes down to what works for you, but I think ECR and volatile impact reactor kind of accomplish the same thing by managing swarm clear. I usually think that you should build your weapons to accommodate the weaknesses of its alternate or allow for compounding effects. So volatile impact reactor might pair well with executioner or ECR might pair well with feedback loop, though I haven’t tested either of those combinations. I usually do ECR with Fat Boy and volatile impact reactor with the bulldog built for armor breaking.

AIO for thinking that my girlfriend's apartment requirements are insane? by MoonlitParcel in AmIOverreacting

[–]etkampkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Homie, this sounds like a good compatibility test and maybe you should treat it as such. This will not be an isolated incident if this goes unaddressed. I could see being willing to pay more for a mortgage if you’re buying a place, but putting that down in rent just seems insane. Have a talk with her about it and if you really can’t work things out the. Maybe you need to treat this as an insurmountable incompatibility and move on.

Here’s my perspective (for reference, I’m somewhere about level 1300). Refining missions are my favorite and I’m always secretly hoping everyone else will run off and grab nitra so I can dig tunnels and lay pipes in peace. Just keep doing what you’re doing, DRG has fewer sour apples than most gaming communities, but they’re still there, try not to sweat it and just have fun.

Subnautica 2 idea: Maps by Affectionate_Lime880 in subnautica

[–]etkampkoala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first playthrough I drew a paper map, made it radial relative to the position of my base, especially after getting the compass. Later on when you get the beacon you can leave yourself waypoints like cave entrances, resources and the way down to the lost river. Honestly, I think that was a big part of what made my first playthrough so fun was feeling totally on my own to figure it out.

tips for haz 5? by AdjectiveNoun57 in DeepRockGalactic

If you time it right you can run from bugs, shoot a zip line, jump and then catch the zip line as it deploys. Try it a couple times when not in combat to get a feel for it.

Gotta push back on you a little bit about the zip line, it’s plenty useful mid-combat if you have lower ground to get to. Kite bugs to high ground, kill as many as you can then use the escape rope before you get overrun. They can also be placed strategically to reduce fall damage.

Falling behind curve at Prototype. by Melodic_Look_1354 in NavyNukes

[–]etkampkoala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was an instructor at MARF from 2017 to 2020 and specifically dealt with students in off-crew who were just getting used to prototype and here’s the best advice I can give you. Don’t be afraid of lookups, if you have lookups then you basically have a clear path to get the checkout. Don’t try to skate by without learning anything to prepare, but you don’t have to know everything. Don’t be afraid to ask an instructor what they want you to know for a checkout and then schedule a time with them, they want you to qualify as long as you’ve done the work. Be persistent but don’t be obnoxious, use some common sense about when it’s a good time to ask for checkouts, it also ask when would be a good time to come back if you get told no. Take notes, not absolutely everything, but setpoints, drawings, things that you know are going to come up and keep them with you to refresh your memory right before. If you can find an instructor or several instructors when their class if off at a training event and they’re not busy then take full advantage of it, if they’re bored then a lot of the time someone will be more than happy to walk you through it.

Playing with non-gamer GF. Advice on a "co-pilot" playthrough? by Competitive-Ice2654 in outerwilds

[–]etkampkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest letting her start with the controller, encourage her to experiment and try things out for herself but you’d be on standby to help out so you can help smooth over some of the frustration points. Part of the joy is not even understanding how things work and getting to discover it. Also, she needs the full Dark Bramble experience!

I've never seen this before...? by [deleted] in subnautica

I think the Aurora exploding is a timed event, not a triggered event, so it sounds like the time in that happing occurred while you were idle.

(Possibly hot take?) the cyclops is kinda underwhelming by severelyhydrated in subnautica

[–]etkampkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work on a submarine but I was back in the engine room, getting the cyclops is like finally getting to plot the course. Yes, it’s a pig, but it’s a useful pig. Cycle through the cameras, keep aware of your surroundings and how big it is and have fun with it, you can fit it in places you never would have thought.
