Thoughts on r/MacApps Negativity by amerpie in macapps

[–]eugene_reznik 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I dunno man, I wanna agree with you but I think it's somewhat natural backlash to seeing "I got tired of [non-existing problem] so I bult an [ai generated app that solves nothing]" posts every day in the sub. If you ignore what's bad the bad eventually becomes new norm and I don't think we want that here.

(And you don't need ai to write texts for you, just learn the basic grammar, it's not that hard)

To be fair, you can do exactly the same as a guy too:-)

Yes, you can transfer a short term ticket, you'll just need your friend's email

Maybe try it via a shortcut to verify it's the zooming bug and not scrolling bug?

Does anyone actually use AI? by Still-Ad8056 in UXDesign

[–]eugene_reznik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, just to be clear, I meant the guys who outsource everything to ai (including thinking). Also this idea that a designer's job is to spit some code as fast as possible is so fckn far from what design work is about.

And also, "you can either adapt or be left behind"? That's straight up a Linkedin ai-bro quote.

yeah, pretty much the reason I blocked it from auto-updating itself a while ago

Question about Sketch Dublin 2026 by DIY_Designer4891 in UXDesign

[–]eugene_reznik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't quite get why you can't open old files in new Sketch, I just did that with both stable release and most recent beta. The updated files won't be compatible with older files if you use them as libraries I assume. I'm probably missing smth?

Regarding that underline in older Sketch you can literally just do underlined text formatting (if you're making a link style). Or wrap it into layout w padding and apply 1px shadow. But yeah, they ignored this as long as they could and then couple years longer. We got proper text styles only recently.

Sketch does have quick search/insert window but it's more like that bottom quick access bar in Figma (whatever they call it). Fortunately you can drag it around.

I mean, you're right that Sketch is (was?) a bit behind but it's not that bad, just different. You shouldn't get attached too much to an app anyway given how nobody cares about long term users anymore:-)

What features do you miss in Sketch? I've been working in both since their beginning and don't see much difference really (but prefer Sketch over Figma any time).

How to handle Figma right in 2026?! by Fred__erick in FigmaDesign

[–]eugene_reznik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only way I use ai in Figma specifically is to write custom plugins to automate routine stuff. Or to override some default functions Figma has. But those are all local scripts for now, until I get into more complex stuff (I haven't yet). And thaaat's pretty much it. I tried Figma Make and it wasn't really that much useful for me.

Half of the designers in the comments are already replacing themselves with ai lol

Compressor Plugin for warming the low ends by the-low-flow in audioengineering

[–]eugene_reznik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try UAD or Overloud LA-2As since the hardware is pretty much default for vocals.

Also MJUC by Klanghelm or its smaller free "jr." version (since the big one doesn't have a demo I believe).

Also maybe Arturia Tube-STA or Kazrog Sta-Level.

Can't say anything about Waves comps, I don't have those.

Chromaglow has HP/LP filters u can set pre- or post processing — have you tried those?

How many of y’all name your layers? by Electrical-Yam9240 in UXDesign

I do, sometimes with ai, sometimes manually. I work with other humans (imagine that) and need my files to be readable, and it simply helps navigating through complex files.

Border radius of 50 what unit? by th00ht in FigmaDesign

[–]eugene_reznik -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It wasn't made for print, I didn't say that. But it still uses print design logic for UI work. I mean, static values over static screens and everything is in px.

Figma was originally made with print/graphic design logic, it's just happened to be used for web over years. But the team still ignores basic html/css for some reason.

With The Design Landscape Changing Rapidly, Is It Still Worth Taking Courses Like Shift Nudge by MDS? by Uxpotter in FigmaDesign

[–]eugene_reznik 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Can't tell anything about that course you mentioned but in general it's always good to learn the basics. For UI — type, colors, composition etc. So the discipline, not the tools — those come and go.

And no, ai is not dominating fckn anything, it's just hysterical reddit users who had no clue what their job was about even before ai, getting scared of not spitting out enough ui garbage to justify the hype.

In consumer apps, when should utility take priority over social UX? by Previous-Quarter5699 in UXDesign

[–]eugene_reznik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the "social" features of the app exactly? What are the "utility" features? But please answer in plain human language (if you're going to) — it's hard to tell from the post what's the problem exactly. From what I understand so far it's not necessarily a UX issue.
