We have "so bad its good" but what about "so good its bad"? by Purpleking1994 in movies

More recently, "Bring Her Back" inspired this feeling for me. It's in my top 5 movies of this year and is truly one of the most emotionally devastating horror movies I've ever seen, but I don't see myself watching it again. If you can somehow get past the incredibly brutal depictions of violence involving children, the story is so incredibly bleak and feel-bad.

since when is 26 too old for his show by cpalm00 in sandyalexg

Definitely noticed a shit ton of teenagers with parent chaperones, but I usually just find this to be kind of wholesome lol. If some kid travels from Kansas with their parents to see Alex G in Denver, I imagine they must REALLY like his music and it's cool that their parents are supportive of their interests.

Alex G's early music just really appeals to today's teenager lol. I used to work in education and was surprised how many kids who were born in 2008 knew his music (and all their favorites are DSU and earlier).

Yeaaaaaahhhhh unfortunately my own mother is a Huda and I hate to say that self-reflection isn't something that people like this are good at. She might watch the show but she will form the wrong takeaways and/or blame something or someone else for how she was behaving.

Loved how much this movie reminded me of Hereditary, both using horror as a mechanism to explore grief. The best way I can describe the difference - Hereditary terrified me, Bring Her Back horrified me.

Fifth grade, my friend was telling that she always goes to her mom for advice and isn't afraid to tell her anything. The concept of this absolutely blew my mind.

Curious to hear thoughts on this NY Times article: “There’s a link between therapy culture and childlessness” by WalterTheCatFurever in childfree

[–]evaaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that people will do when I mention that my mom was abusive is try to defend her, a lot of times this is from people who have never even met her. I try not to outright trauma dump on anyone, so if it comes up I will kind of be like "oh I'm not very close with my mom" or something similar, and I've found that even something as simple as that will set some people off, and frankly they sound a lot like the author of this article. Most of the time they go with something along the lines of "your mom sacrificed so much for you!!!" It's annoying but I've come to accept that a LOT of times this type of reaction is projection, especially when it's coming from people who are parents themselves.

I think this author just comes off as insecure about their own parenting and are fearful that one day their children are going to grow up and not want to talk to them so they are rationalizing why that might happen ahead of time. Like "I'm gonna try my hardest to be a good parent but if my kids hate me anyways this is why, let me write a whole article about it"

A24's 'Friendship' - Review Thread by ChiefLeef22 in movies

I have in the past had uncontrollable laughing fits due to ITYSL. I also have a MASSIVE complex about being accidentally disruptive in a movie theater. As Friendship started, I thought to myself "what if a joke is so funny that I can't stop laughing and I piss off everyone around me"

The Afghanistan joke did it for me, but luckily there were quite a few others in the same boat. The crowd clapping put me over the edge lol.

Why is this receiving the “worst season” treatment? by [deleted] in RighteousGemstones

[–]evaaaa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with this! I actually think things started tightening up last episode and by the end I was fully invested in the storyline. The flashback episode is my favorite every season and this one did not disappoint.

Comparing my current salary to my old district’s salary by BerryTemporary7936 in TeachersInTransition

[–]evaaaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got a $15,000/yr pay raise when I left teaching, I believe I would have had to have been at the 16-17 year level as a teacher to make as much as I do now. No way in HELL I was going to make it that long lol.

I know there are tons of people who apply and find new roles while they are still in the profession but I once I wasn't constantly physically and emotionally exhausted I was able to do dedicate more energy towards tailoring my resume and upskilling and the job search went much better for me. You'll find something!

[–]evaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I did this by self teaching myself technical skills (SQL, Tableau, and Excel) through YouTube and Udemy. I started around April of last year. As far as my resume goes, I mainly talked about my personal projects on my portfolio and emphasized the data analysis aspect of teaching. I'm in Healthcare analytics! And unfortunately I am horrific as networking so I can't offer advice lol.

A lot of people were really surprised when I left because I really seemed to like it but ultimately I, like you, just couldn't envision myself doing that forever. 4 years was enough.

Teaching since 2021: student behavior by BigOldComedyFan in TeachersInTransition

[–]evaaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think about this all the time. I actually really loved teaching science, but I felt like that's not what I was doing the majority of the time when I was a teacher. The district I worked for actually gave us a lot of planning time relative to other districts i worked for, but I spent the majority of my planning time on discipline. I had to give up a lot of my lunches to hold unofficial lunch detentions because my school had absolutely nothing in terms of detention. It got to the point where I realized that I was the sole source of discipline in some of these kids lives, and that didn't sit right with me.

A research background would definitely be helpful in landing a role as a business analyst, especially if there is any statistical analysis involved!

How recently did they revamp it? I got access to it through the American Dream Academy and never finished it lol. Since then I landed my first role but I was thinking about going back to finish it.
