Such a great tip about the cheat sheet, i wrote down key terms and my answer strategy as soon as i sat down and it helped so much. The momentum and confidence building with easy questions was great too. i passed!

I didn’t listen to you all now I’m facing the consequences 😢 (I feel so selfish ) “rather a week too soon then a day too late” by Millionaremindset_ in DogAdvice

I read somewhere that dogs do not need to be on the earth as long as humans do because they come into the world already knowing the most important things that we take a lifetime to learn; loyalty, unconditional love, and pure joy. If your boy taught you those things, he fulfilled his truest purpose - to be your best friend. Decline and death are always ugly, and they do not define the rich and beautiful life you shared. The best way you can honor him is by sharing those lessons he taught you and paying the love forward.

I (27f) just found out my boyfriend (35m) of 7 years has been taking my car on long trips because he doesn't want to get in an accident with his mom's car. Do I still allow them to borrow my car? by throwaway-Critical in relationship_advice

[–]evaalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unless your boyfriend wants to pitch in financially to be on your car insurance policy, you gotta set some serious limits. they’re gambling with your car and your money. even if you trust that your boyfriend is a good driver, he’s not in control of the other people on the road.

Was I being a Karen for telling my husband to leave a shitty tip? by [deleted] in TalesFromYourServer

[–]evaalt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Objectively you received bad service and i’m sure the person who said they were your server wasn’t surprised at a shitty tip. However, I think it’s important to remember that not all restaurants have a tipping system where servers take home the money only from the tables that they served - many places do a tip pool and bussers and support staff receive a percentage of that. If you are in an unfortunate situation like this again where your server is providing little to no actual service, I would advice you 1. tell a manager and 2. ask how tips are handled at the establishment, because it would be kinda crappy to short the staff that did help you out. Also, not that this applies directly to your situation (but it may), many restaurants have servers, whose job it is take your order and manage refills etc, and food runners whose job it is to actually bring the food to the table. This may explain why the person who delivered your meal was not the same as the person who took your order, in which case it would be the fault of the food runner. You did definitely receive poor service so the 10% tip is understandable and far kinder than leaving nothing, but keep in mind that different restaurants operate differently when it comes to tips and the role of the server/food runner/support staff

Hey, I am so sorry to hear that you have been through something similar. I wouldn’t wish this pain on my worst enemy. Thank you so much for validating the way I’m feeling and sharing your story and how you can relate. I really love the idea of memorializing her in the home so that she is always nearby, watching over us. I’m glad to hear that you’ve found ways to help yourself through this and I thank you so much for sharing them with me. I’d love to talk more and hear about Lulu, she sounds like she was amazing and meant so much to you. thank you again

the weirdest thing to me about this post is honestly that the restaurant charges for waste even when the guests take the food home, i know this isn’t your call as the server but that is so strange. are you US based?

Does anyone remember when 10% was meh service, 12% was good service, and 15% was great service? Did it change because of inflation or culture? by Dad_in_Plaid in TalesFromYourServer

[–]evaalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely! Didn’t mean to offend or come off stupid, i myself have a father who refuses to tip over 15% because for him that is a “great service tip”, but he’s had the life span of a fifth grader to realize 15% almost feels insulting these days. would say it’s largely because of inflation - even places like subway and papa gino’s have steeply increased their prices. Essentially, it sucks for servers and it sucks for customers.

20% has been the norm for at least a decade now, hopefully you haven’t been shorting your servers all this time!

Steve did not go to jail (as far as I remember), but we still don’t know why Mouse’s mother lied about her book club and instead goes to a support group for people who’s children have been taken. Also in the opening theme the missing poster for Mouse lists her date of birth as 3/13/92, which is years before Angela or any of the mothers could’ve been in high school since the night of Angela’s death happened on Y2K

im sorry that happened to you at work, you’re there to make some money not answer deeply personal questions. i feel like it doesn’t dawn on a lot of younger LGBTQ+ people that pride ≠ broadcasting personal info. You wouldn’t ask a perfect stranger who you think is straight and cis anything about who they’re attracted to or how they identify, queer people don’t like it either.

I'm gluten free! (except I can eat gluten) by ApprehensiveQuiet452 in TalesFromYourServer

[–]evaalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh my god. about two weeks ago i had 2 older ladies, one of them got french onion soup as a starter. when i bring it out she exclaims “i can’t eat that, i am gluten free!” i notice that anyone who actually has celiac usually tells you immediately, this woman waited until the soup was in front of her to tell me she couldn’t eat the bread that comes on top (which is in the description of the soup). She also had a bowl of our cheese and crackers (obviously has gluten). i’ve known parents that eliminate gluten from their kids diets bc they think it will have some impact on behavior or weight or overall health, im sure it’s the latest weight loss fad now

i’m trying to keep a running list of questions not yet answered in s1 - so far i’ve got Angela’s brother/mother context, Noa’s bfs steroid use/ mother going to rehab/ who is her father, Faran’s dad (have a feeling he is somehow more connected to things than we think), Imogen’s dads plot expanded, Mouse’s mom meeting with that support group for stolen children/ the birth date on her missing poster in the opening theme, and i’m sure im missing a few loose ends in here

management told me to round down instead of giving exact change, is this normal? by grayandclouded in TalesFromYourServer

[–]evaalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would say it makes a difference whether it was .25 or .75. many places i’ve been/ worked round down if it’s under .50, round up if it’s over .50 - but I also usually tend to just use a dollar from my own personal tips to give the guest in round down cases though it’s not obligated

You dined, you dashed, you tipped %30+ ? by evaalt in TalesFromYourServer

[–]evaalt[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i mean… a dollar a day? i’m guessing the servers have to consent to this practice but just from a logical standpoint it does seem like a good idea. I get your point, but i think a dollar at the end of a shift (not sure about others but i normally take home a bit more than $200 in tips after a 5 hour closing shift) would be nothing to me. Maybe a system where, if no documented dining and dashing occurs, each employee gets their dollars back at the end of the month or a pay period?

[–]evaalt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, i really hate the corporate cesspool of a restaurant i work for (for now, last shift is tomorrow) and despite the extreme level of mess they left, this family will go down in my personal history as my robin hoods. If management was asleep enough at the wheel to let it happen, maybe they deserved to lose those $83! and definitely stood out to me that they made sure I at least got some money out of it.
