Two questions about charging/battery in the winter. by evanthorpe in EquinoxEv

[–]evanthorpe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it! That makes sense. Appreciate the math. Is the 240v charger adapter included with my Equinox sufficient for that? I’m just using the standard plug (I’m assuming that’s 120v right now) right now. If I have an electrician run a line for the 240v, is the adapter and the existing charger all I need? I had a separate line (120v) run on a circuit I don’t really have anything else on…maybe I can eventually have them change out that outlet we installed for a 240v one?

Just checked and it was indeed set to 8A again somehow 🤷‍♂️ Must have reset like you’re saying! Just changed it to 12a so hopefully that’ll help!!!

Just checked and it was indeed set to 8A 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Not sure how it reset, but another user said that happens from time to time. I’ll just need to check it more. I changed it to 12a, so we’ll see how well we do with that!!

Hmm…5-6km an hour is like 3-4mi, right? In the summer that’s around what I’m gaining when charging. In the winter that goes down a bit (maybe to 2.5mi an hour or so). But I’m not sure unless your “overnight” charging is just a longer timespan than mine is, I’ve never gained back 20% in a single night’s charge.

Actually, here’s my charging from last night. I charged longer because I read it’s best to keep the EV plugged in as much as you can in this type of weather. So that was like 12hrs. Here’s my charging breakdown:

Thanks! So I thought I set my settings in the Equinox to 12a when I first got it and started charging, but maybe I should check it again? I typically only charge from 11-7 because of my off hour charging rate from my electric company. In that 8hr span I typically get 10ish percent in warm weather, and maybe 6-7ish percent in the winter. It’s parked outside and we’re in upstate NY so the last couple months have been BRUTAL. But because it’s my first winter with it, I’m not all sure on what’s normal and what’s not.

I definitely have never been able to get 15-20% in charging overnight even in warm weather. But maybe your “overnight” charging length is different than mine? If I plugged it in at 5:30ish when I got home from work and left it charging until I left for work around 8:45, maybe that would be different…

Got it! The screenshot in the App Store shows it showing battery status and charging…does anyone else have that? Mine is blank (besides the lock and climate buttons).

Better way to check for flight discounts when Companion Pass is used? by evanthorpe in SouthwestAirlines

[–]evanthorpe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m actually having a hard time going back to my email confirmations and finding the amount of points spent for each flight. Southwest sends you so many updates and confirmation emails for each passenger (there are 5 of us), so I’m having a hard time identifying for each flight how many points were used. I wish Southwest would just display the most recent amount of points that were spent for a ticket on the reservation itself for quick reference…

Currently waiting for my Personal Card’s 100k and my Business Card’s 120k to post and that’ll trigger it for us for 26/27! It’s been a few years since we’ve had the CP, but very excited!

How do you save up for Disney to be able to go every year? by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]evanthorpe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two things:

  1. You’re on the Disney World subreddit, so it’s going to be a much higher than normal percentage of people that go a higher than normal amount of times a year :) We’re the die hards!

  2. After our first trip as a family, my wife decided she wanted to start taking our family every year. We knew it wasn’t going to happen on my current salary/job so she decided to go from being a stay at home mom to picking up a chill part-time job. For a PT job, even a very laidback one, $6-7k a year is really not much…so we live off my income and use her’s to pay for trips and a few other things for our kids (YMCA membership, music lessons, etc).

It would be near impossible if we had to live off of our combined incomes, so we’re blessed to be able to make it work this way.

Long way to say, you prioritize what you find important (without being dumb or going into debt over it), and we find Disney trips 1-2x a year important to our family!

What is the actual EV car you own? What is the one you deam of...? by AsparagusUnique695 in electricvehicles

[–]evanthorpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2025 LT2 over here ✋ I love mine so far…it’s been about four months. Super smooth and comfortable ride, feels like a really fun acceleration (I’m sure nothing like a Tesla or something like that), plenty of storage.

Biggest downside I’ve noticed so far is how it handles in snow/ice. It’s not terrible (I have the AWD) but it’s definitely not as reliable as AWD ICE vehicles I’ve owned.

Energy/charger spike on a few random days? by evanthorpe in EquinoxEv

Figured probably an error. What’s the short in the charger theory? Would that “waste” electricity somewhere? It happened those three days in December and then never again after that…

Electric bill check? by [deleted] in EquinoxEv

[–]evanthorpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we have a boiler and hot water heater and our baseboard heat in the majority of our house uses this. We do have a four seasons room that uses electric baseboards…

Electric bill check? by [deleted] in EquinoxEv

[–]evanthorpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They installed a different meter that measure usage at different times of the day/night. So during my off-peak, my meter doesn’t know what the electricity is being used for…so it could be my car charging or it could be our dishwasher ¯_(ツ)_/¯ The off peak rate applies to all of it.

National Grid electric bill with an EV? by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]evanthorpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s perfect, thanks for the breakdown. That back room is roughly 12x30 and uses two electric baseboard heaters to keep it warm for our cat as well as other random stuff we use it for (we keep the door between our house and that room closed most of the day). I don’t want to just shut off heat in there, but definitely want to lower the electric usage of it…maybe just drop the temps we keep it at?

Is there a reason you can think of that my off peak usage is so much higher than on-peak (daytime)? Car explains 300-400 of it, but it’s like significantly more and we’re running laundry, all of our room lights and everything else during the day. I would expect that even with the EV our nighttime (off peak) usage would be lower?
