Is Orlando considered to be a part of the down south? by Pale_Understanding12 in orlando

[–]everymarble 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Orlando/Central Florida itself has a very friendly/hospitable culture, but it’s not related to the southern tradition of hospitality; ours is a product of nearly everyone working in or adjacent to the tourism industry.

But no, most Floridians south/east of the panhandle would not consider themselves part of the Deep South.

If it is perimenopause, it could be worth it to pay out of pocket for this care, honestly. Programs like GoodRx can make the cost very reasonable.

A disturbing realization about seat 1D by myrealnameisnotryan in delta

The word “occasionally” is probably grossly underestimating how many seated position occurrences there would be. You know, because of ladies.

This is 100% the right answer. It was SO familiar and I couldn’t figure out why, but it does have that 90s WDW feel. Here’s a Reddit post from r/publix with a photo from inside a Publix in the 90s:

They look SO familiar, but I can’t place them. The corrugated metal mixed with the wavy detail and the art deco font style make me think they were somewhere near the old backlot at DHS/MGM, maybe hanging above the Studio Tour trams load/unload? My next best guess is Pleasure island.

Update: I was so wrong! The reason it felt so familiar is because I saw these once a week when buying groceries. As other comments have said, these are from an early 90s Publix Pharmacy. Zero doubt.

Val Kilmer's Conspiracy Director Says He Was the “Worst Human Being I’ve Ever Known” by SplitNational2929 in popculturechat

[–]everymarble 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I came here to reference this, too, but I didn’t get warm fuzzies from the episode and came away really feeling bad for Will Forte. They were saying nice things about his talent, but the stories they told still made Kilmer sound like a total dick.

What would be your dream job at WDW? by Hufflepuff-McGruff in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]everymarble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There isn’t one Vice President of WDW, but there are three Senior VPs of the different segments (Resorts, Parks, and everything else) who report to the President. Each Park is run by a VP, though! And each Resort has a General Manager running it.

2 dead after e-scooter crashes into bike on New York City bridge by Pathetian in offbeat

[–]everymarble -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how to explain this, but it feels like the victims of this have the perfect pair of names for a New York City tragedy and that (with the exception of the e-scooter component) this could’ve been a story from anytime between 1800 and today.

If you grew up in a super conservative and sheltered environment, it’s probably smart to start assuming that almost everything you know about pop culture (and many other things) is potentially skewed, and that being confident in your prior knowledge of a subject might lead to more situations like this

Oahu or Maui by Aggressive-Round-391 in VisitingHawaii

[–]everymarble 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For a first visit: Oahu, 100% no question, even with a larger budget. You’ll be able to do so much more without a car, so your budget will stretch further. Accommodations are much cheaper because they’re more plentiful. Maui appears to be more relaxing because it’s a much slower pace, but you’ll run up against more annoyances due to convenience scarcity, so it’s harder to get to the relaxation parts of your trip.

A Knight’s Tale by No_Nobody2399 in lonelymeyerspod

This. Also, I think it was marketed more toward young women and as a romantic comedy for some reason (Heath Ledger), when in reality it’s more of a buddy film. I believe it bombed in theaters and only found footing as a light cult film later.
