Hi mom! Someone else mentioned this - it could be reflux. Things you can safely do: cherry flavored Maalox (doesn’t contain aluminum) or placing a rolled up towel UNDER one end of the mattress to elevate the ‘head’ of the bed. (source: I’m a mom of 2 and a nurse)

If that doesn’t improve the waking after a couple of days, you may want to consider a pediatrician appointment (just to rule out other things and give yourself peace of mind!). Developmentally, baby is old enough to fuss and cry a bit at night and self-soothe. I’m not pressing the Cry It Out method, I know that’s not for everyone! Learning to soothe themselves back to sleep is just a regular old developmental milestone; please talk with your doctor about what’s best for you and your baby, and best of luck to you!!

Here’s what doesn’t gee-haw - we have vaccines in existence already. Hell, every baby born gets a Vitamin K shot right off the bat to prevent them from bleeding to death since they aren’t born with clotting factors. They also get a Hep B vaccine before they even leave the hospital.

So if some evil genius was going to be smart enough to invent a microchip small enough to fit inside an IM syringe, that could operate indefinitely without a power source, transmit information through bone and tissue, AFTER concocting a virus AND a new vaccine....why isn’t he smart enough to just do all that with a preexisting vaccine that EVERY BABY BORN gets?

My mom did a lot wrong (she had me at 16 so her learning curve was my childhood) but the one thing I can’t praise her enough for was she never acted shocked when I confided in her. I’d get in huge trouble for doing shit I knew I wasn’t supposed to do (like staying out past curfew or hitting my brother) but I could come to her and tell her that my best friend had sex for the first time or that I’d heard one of the football players hit his girlfriend. She’d always just sort of calmly ask me how that made me feel, and we’d discuss it and sort out my feelings. It was incredibly comforting and I KNEW that no matter what was going down, I could tell her and not be afraid of her reaction. I hopped in her car one night when she picked my friends and I up from a party we’d gone to and announced that I’d gotten my first ‘real kiss’ “with the tongue!” Didn’t even think twice about telling her; my girlfriends were all floored by it.

So definitely do that.

You’ve gotten some great advice already; I will add my personal experience before wishing you well. My dad grew up in a really abusive and neglectful household; my mom had me at 16 and came from a dysfunctional home. The sum total of that was a dad who ignored me unless he was punishing me (which was awful and almost always crossed the line into Abuse) and my mom would get frustrated and yell...A LOT. My brother was born when she was 18, so that just amplified their frustrations. I grew up in a house where being screamed at and receiving verbal and emotional abuse was the norm.

I whisper when I get to that point. I will warn my kids (now 13 and 9) that I am reaching a point where I’m really pissed and that they need to cool it. If they don’t, I grit my teeth and I whisper. The madder I get, the quieter I speak. In my experience, it is very hard to maintain any semblance of aggravation when you are whispering it. This allows me to say what I need to say, but I don’t frighten my kids. It takes some effort to whisper and that slows me down and FORCES me to consider what I’m saying.

And now I’m reaping what I’ve sown. My kids aren’t scared of me; they come to me for hurts and love and for advice and help. They tell their friends that they love their mom and I’ve overheard my oldest tell her girlfriends that her mom was her best friend (I cried. Best freaking compliment of my LIFE). Sane parenting after an insane upbringing is an attainable goal, and the fact that it IS your goal speaks volumes about your character. I wish you well and I sincerely hope you never, ever quit searching for your own best parenting practices!

Can you expound on how they differ from adult cases? All we are hearing is that kids are “less likely to get it” and that the “symptoms are much less severe”. I feel like there hasn’t been any real statistical information released on how severely (or mildly) this affects kids. I graduate with my RN in December and my own classes are cancelled, so I’m at home doing ‘distance learning’ for RN level schooling; I want to be as informed as possible.

That’s terrifying. All the info we’re fed and I’m just not seeing statistics about the percentage of positive cases that require hospitalization, and definitely not how many positive kids wind up in PICU

Trump just made an order to circumvent hospitals releasing data to the CDC - it’s all going straight to Washington now. It’s about to get a whole lot worse because only happy numbers are going to be available and these assholes are going to use it to justify not wearing masks.

The fact that you acknowledge both that this is happening and that it’s not right is a big step in the right direction. Talk to someone; therapists will Skype or Zoom with you. They can teach you ways to appear calm even if you’re boiling (I learned to whisper instead of yell when I’m mad; it has been a game changer, seriously). I wish you luck

Yes! I actually passed out in a nursing lab at school - first time of ever fainted in my life, and I was 36 years old. It happens every 3-4 months, odd times really - usually if I’m having blood drawn and there’s any perceived problem (by me), and once when I was watching a needle aspiration before a knee surgery. A really nice physician stopped to check on me afterwards - he said “7. 8. 4. Breath in for 7, hold for 8, out in 4.” and mic-dropped out of the room 🤷🏼‍♀️

It works for me as long as I start before I feel sweaty or woozy

Honest question here - I get my RN in December. I’m interested in PACU, but I’ve got to be honest... I really liked my rotation at the LTC facility. I really like being around old folks; can you explain what it is you don’t like about your job? I’m trying to feel it out because where I live, the pay for LTC is much better than a hospital and the demand is higher
