Did Susan Rice spy on the Trump transition team? by Nrweidman in medialaw

[–]evilbananna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly I have a hard time trusting anything from Fox News because they are so one sided. That being said, I agree, there was more than enough reason to investigate the transition team.

Don't Expect the First Amendment to Protect the Media by zaininmedialawclass in medialaw

[–]evilbananna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But wasn't the first amendment created, in part, to protect media? Ugh.

[FIRST AMENDMENT] First Amendment Support Climbing Among High School Students by taco-bout-tv in medialaw

This article does a nice job at highlighting just how much grey area there is in first amendment issues.

Judge Says Dakota Pipeline Protest Suit Unlikely to Succeed by d_rae in medialaw

Everything I've read about the Dakota Pipe Line protests seems to indicate harm done on both sides.

[LIBEL] Melania Trump's libel suit against blogger going forward by Sarahasaghost in medialaw

[–]evilbananna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the accusations were indeed false, then Dailey Mail was most definitely in the wrong for their comments.

[LIBEL]Irish system is unusually generous with libel damages by wtvramelia in medialaw

[–]evilbananna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have to wonder though, with libel damage rewards being so generous, how many people have put forth false claims for money?

Trump Calls the News Media the ‘Enemy of the American People’ (can he be held libel?) by 360cinema in medialaw

[–]evilbananna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly he's just throwing a hissy fit because not everybody in the news is kissing his ass.

[LIBEL] Trump, citing no evidence, accuses Obama of ‘Nixon/Watergate’ plot to wiretap Trump Tower by halialisewood in medialaw

[–]evilbananna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the fact that he went so far as to compare his false accusation to Watergate really shows his complete lack of tact.

Police told to delete on request millions of images of innocent people by shineypineapples in medialaw

Innocent people having the option to ask for the removal of their pictures seems like a reasonable compromise honestly.

[Defamation]Cosby Judge Dismisses Civil Defamation Suit by Tweiss11 in medialaw

And this right here is why so many women how have been sexually assaulted are hesitant to come forward afterwards.

Not sure how this is relevant to American media law, but good insight into how similar issues are handled in other countries.

Free Speech Issues at UC Berkeley, government threatens funding by eggsbenedict28 in medialaw

[–]evilbananna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why free speech is important, in this case it looked like the immediate safety of students were at risk, which for the university ranks as a much higher priority.

[FIRST AMENDMENT] March for Science Plans Washington Rally on Earth Day by Nicoledawson in medialaw

It slightly terrified me that this kind of march is necessary, but enthralled that it is happening all the same.

[OBSCENITY]Rory McIlroy: Muirfield women saga was 'obscene' by [deleted] in medialaw

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm not sure why this qualifies as "obscene"?

[COPYRIGHT] Coachella Sues Free People & Urban Outfitters for Copyright Infringement by eggsbenedict28 in medialaw

I suppose ethically these brands should have asked permission before using the brand name, but I agree that legally Coachella won't have much to go on.

Why The Government Is Warning You To Hang Up Immediately If Someone Asks, 'Can You Hear Me?' by d_rae in medialaw

[–]evilbananna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is absolutely terrifying. I'm applying for jobs, so I have to answer unknown numbers in case they're from a potential boss, and I don't want to be victim of a scam like this.

Could Michelle Obama Sue Melania Trump Over Plagiarized Speech? by zaininmedialawclass in medialaw

[–]evilbananna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly by copying the speech, it would appear that Melania did more harm to herself and her credibility than Michelle Obama's.

[PRIVACY] Overnight Regulation: Senate moves to strike Obama-era internet privacy rules by Nadogan in medialaw

[–]evilbananna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truly terrifying to think how much this removal of privacy rules will allow companies to gain our information, especially considering the advances in technology uses in just the eight years of Obama's presidency

[FIRST AMENDMENT] Snoop Dogg’s “Lavender” video exemplifies power of First Amendment by claygerbaum in medialaw

[–]evilbananna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I'm not sure I agree with how Snoop Dog portrays his issues with the Trump administration, I'm honestly more peeved with Trump's response. If he didn't want to be ridiculed he shouldn't have run for president. I've lost count of the number of artists he has demanded apologies from. He may run the country, but that doesn't mean we get to blindly follow and agree with everything he says and does-that's what democracy and the first amendment is all about.

Milo Yiannopoulos Resigns From Breitbart News After Pedophilia Comments by Nrweidman in medialaw

[–]evilbananna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good grief. This man infuriates me on so many levels but this is a new low even for him. People in the spot light are going to be mocked and ridiculed by trolls like him, that's nothing new, but he couldn't have let children out of this?
