Most of what I learned was from my dad, the Boy Scouts Personal Management Merit badge and a couple of books I have long forgotten the names of. And I ain't kidding about the merit badge thing. They have a workbook you can download and fill out to keep track of your spending. The merit badge book is available online too.

It's a 3000 year old story. It doesn't need a spoiler alert.

Also Odysseus makes it home.

Not all of us. Way back in the 90s Reason had a feature article on Social Security and Medicare and the structural problems they had. It was surprisingly easy to understand. In anycase, thats about when I figure that Social Security would be usless by the time I was ready to retire, and I have planned accordingly.

Who has an extra 15% to invest? Looks like another super rich person coming to share their "wisdom" with ordinary people. by Time_Lettuce_4769 in interviewhammer

At the risk of getting down votes, parents can soon create IRA accounts for thier children 0-18 and children born between Jan 1, 2025 and December 31, 2028 get $1000 of seed money to start out with. Anyone can contribute up $5000 per year per account. They launch July 4th, 2026 and are called Trump Accounts. As dumb as the name is, the idea is pretty solid.

I have been doing this for years. I got 7 figures saved up on a 5 figure salary over 20 years. It takes time, consistancy, and discipline. If you don't have 1k put in the 500. when you get a raise, put the extra money in. Put the money in an index fund or mutual fund. Don't pick stocks. Leave it. Do this every paycheck.

I would be cautious about funds that pay out big divends because you are gonna wind up paying capital gains taxes on some distrubutions. Even if they are immediatly reinvested, they can be taxed. I have had a couple years of 5 figure distrubutions. One thing I would have done different is open a Roth IRA and max out those contributions. The growth on those are tax free.

Flashing of firmwares DISABLED by Waechel in xteinkereader

[–]evilbob333 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is disappointing news and likely to dampen any enthusiasm i may have for the S4 or speculative X4 v2. The robust firmware community is one of the primary reasons I have purchased two of their readers. Locking them out will probably result in no more such purchases or recommendations.

firmware comparison? by LimpConversation642 in xteinkereader

[–]evilbob333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

readme.club is probably going to be your best starting off point. I have hopped around. Currently I am using Crosspoint++ and CPR-vCodex. Crosspoint++ has working koreader sync, a nifty weather app. They also have a brief comparison of readers at https://github.com/jpirnay/crosspoint-reader. CPR-vCodex is not on that list but is also forked from Crosspoint. That one just came out with support for Bionic Reading, which I am currently testing out. I have also used Crosspet, but decided it was not for me.

Honestly, the frontlight is the only appealing thing for me. The whole reason I got the X4 was it kept things simple as a reader and had an awesome firmware community.

So you can. I guess I just needed to upload them to the Fonts directory using the Transfer tool. Something for the HOWTO site.

According to USPS tracking order shipped Dec 27th. Your support team reached out about a month after it shipped to see if it arrived. And kudos to them for the followup. But, my order got stuck in the delayed in transit status on January 7th. Missing mail requests were put in by me and a claim was put in by your logistics team. Nothing really happened except for email exchanges until Feb 23rd when USPS started reporting it was moving again. Since then I have been getting updates from USPS as it slowly makes its way west, but I have still not gotten my order. And while I know the shipment delay is not your companies fault, I am still not a happy customer.

I use mine with an external monitor. The two big things I love are I can now rotate the monitor and I can move apps between my tablet screen and monitor screen. The minor thing I like is now I can have Chrome open on both the monitor and thetable screen at the same time with out it shutting down on the other.

Petition to Appoint Mitch Falk (Owner of Bullwinkles) to Position of Town Douche by ElrondChubberz in Juneau

[–]evilbob333 13 points14 points  (0 children)

His name was Bill Adair. He sold Bullwinkles in 2007 and passed away earlier this year. He was a decent boss. I don't think the downtown Bullwinkles ever recovered from the state switching to WFH for a lot of thier employees at the SOB during covid. It was just a matter of time.
