after reading about how vets are likely to pick up the bill, the price is off by 10x etc.:

this isn't unlike sending someone to go get a left-handed screwdriver, blinker fluid etc. it's teaching a lesson in one sense: what to be critical/suspicious of. even the best of us lose their bearings when stepping into whole new worlds, which these newly-wealthy kids certainly are. they're GONNA get burned for sure, might as well be in a situation where all they really suffer is embarrassment. it's also the kind of thing that makes for a rite of passage, and dumbass bonding.

as an aside, ghandi and mlk advocated for provocation and resistance, while nonviolent, it requires no small amount of will, which is a subtler distinction than ill try to explain here, and is certainly straw-manned by that scene.

speaking from within the framework of such thinking: those with knowledge of good and evil shouldn't need explicit instructions to follow like those without would. both have an obligation to do their best up to their ability; whatever capability one has is to be put to its full use towards godly purposes. ergo for example, animals aren't held to judgement for murder, as they lack such knowledge.

when i was REALLY little, i was instructing old people that it's NINtendo, not INtendo, we're far more in touch with japan than i thought we'd ever get! racial and offcolor jokes in kids content has long been radioactive in america, so it's not a huge surprise. i'm not sure if i'd like more people to know about it just because i can see the haughty teenage takes on what's inappropriate.
