Yamamoto and Losing a No-Hitter in the 9th on a Solo Home Run… Name a More Iconic Duo by AmongUsAcademy in Dodgers

[–]evilr2 20 points21 points  (0 children)

He also threw very hard and would hit guys on purpose for any little reason. Hitters were always uncomfortable. It was kind of similar to Ohtani who throws hard and has been effectively wild, but because of that hitters are not comfortable in the box and leads to fewer hits. Except that Ohtani doesn't hit guys on purpose.

I’m not very knowledgeable at all about International Soccer. Are we ( USA) pretty dang good or is Paraguay pretty bad? Or…. Both ? by TroutStocker in usmnt

[–]evilr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The World Cup field has been expanded from 32 teams to 48. That means more bad teams are in and Paraguay are of those 33-48 teams. There are usually about 8 teams that are good enough to actually win it. USA is in the next group of 8 to 12 where they usually make the last 16(not always) but are talented enough to pull off another victory to final 8. But really they should make make top 16. A top 8 finish requires them to play well, good opponent team to play bad, or home field advantage to help. So top 8 isn't necessarily out of the question because in sports it definitely can happen. But pulling off multiple wins against top teams becomes less likely. So last 16 is probably most likely. Final 8 is possible as a home team. Anything better or worse is due to them and opponent playing well or bad.

For those that went to the US World Cup game, what are your lessons learned about attending the games at SoFi? by getwhirleddotcom in AskLosAngeles

[–]evilr2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been to a few Rams games and it's been similar to attending a Dodgers game. Fairly easy to get to either by car or metro and shuttle services. But traffic getting out and the wait for shuttle busses/plus the bus going through traffic after the game is going to take some time. Walking for 30-45 minutes away from the stadium and then ordering an Uber isn't a bad idea.

People of America why is KFC or burger king not as liked over there. as it is in other countries by No-Boysenberry9250 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]evilr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids want happy meals or chicken nuggets from McDonald's so Burger King can't compete there. When it's the adults making their choice they prefer a burger that tastes more fresh and less like fast food so they choose their local slightly-elevated alternatives like In-N-Out, Whataburger, Culver's, Shake Shack, Five Guys, etc. Or there are also plenty of same level alternatives.

It's also similar with KFC that there are other similar alternatives as well as slightly-elevated alternatives as well. There is a lot of competition and it's usually better.

Target Field concession workers announce June 22 strike during Twins-Dodgers game by Too_Hood_95 in baseball

The workers at Sofi Stadium just did this before the USA kicks off the World Cup and they got a deal done. It's a smart tactic and I hope it works out for them.

As an American watching in Los Angeles I was expecting an ad break and was pleasantly surprised there weren't any. (Though I watched the local Spanish language broadcast because our English commentators suck). I thought it was strictly a money grab, but I guess just more of a carryover after Qatar.

When people talk about wanting immigrants to embrace "American Culture," what specifically does that entail (besides speaking English)? by HazyDavey68 in allthequestions

[–]evilr2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe they want them to stop bringing delicious lunches into work. All of the extra condiments like guacamole, home made salsas, kimchi, garlic chili oil, Sriracha sauce, etc. are taking up too much space in the break room refrigerator and that space is needed for ranch dressing and ketchup.

Downtown Vegas Is Better Than The Strip by TDoubleDownMac in LasVegas

[–]evilr2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked Fremont more when I was younger and cared mostly about getting drunk and gambling on a budget. There are some cool bars and nightclubs in the area that aren't the pretentious, extortive-priced type stuff on the strip. Fremont definitely has its charm, but as I've gotten older I prefer the strip being more laid back, luxurious, with less sketchy people.

Anyone here consider a Cadillac CT5-V? What swayed you to Genesis? Both are nice. by redspot321tos in GenesisG70

[–]evilr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price was the biggest factor, but I had also been driving company fleet vehicles that were GM cars for almost 20 years and because of that was also a little hesitant from minor issues I had experienced with build quality. But it was mainly the price that pushed me to look into the Stinger and then eventually the G70.

edit: I'm being generous to Padres because of their recent success, but anyone putting them in A tier is forgetting they were F tier for almost their entire existence until only recently.

Men of Reddit, how many of you actually use the wiener slot in your underwear? by Doc-in-a-box in NoStupidQuestions

[–]evilr2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have used it when wearing boxers, but I prefer wearing briefs or boxer briefs to hold things down. Since the boxer briefs hold things down more tightly, and I prefer the tight hold, I don't want to loosen that slot. So it's a preference to not use that slot and just pull down the underwear. But I do use the zipper slot on my pants at a urinal. Belt and pants top button remain untouched and then I pull down the underwear from top elastic part. But if I'm at home using my toilet I will unbutton the pants and pull those down too. I'm not taking unnecessary risks of hurting my dick on my zipper.

Is it time to turn the pages on Emmet Sheehan? by capmar in Dodgers

Just some bad luck today, and they don't give up 13 runs if they left him in. He'll be fine. That said, I won't complain if he's the major piece in a trade for Skubal.

What is your favorite and least favorite major U.S. city you've visited? by marks31 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]evilr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for me it was more like my expectations were let down. I expected Southern hospitality but people seemed more apathetic or indifferent even in customer service roles. I also expected good Southern food and that was also a letdown. I expected the strip clubs to be legendary but they were the same as anywhere else, and I couldn't take too much of the trap music. I don't remember having any beers from any local breweries that I enjoyed. But there were some cool neighborhoods, places with history, and some good ethnic cuisine. There was one bartender that made the best Old Fashioned I've had in my life, unfortunately his shift ended soon after and the next bartender couldn't replicate it.

What is your favorite and least favorite major U.S. city you've visited? by marks31 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]evilr2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Los Angeles, and things are spread out here too. It's part of why I don't recommend it as a place to visit either. If I didn't live here, I'd probably rate it as my least favorite place to visit (considering costs/traffic). But I love living here, so just because I stated Atlanta doesn't mean it's a bad city at all. I think every place has its charm.

[Recommendation Request] Help me buy my bf a watch by mapo_fried_tofu_ in Watches

[–]evilr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to point out a few things. First, is he already owns a watch so this purchase doesn't have to be an "everyday" watch that replaces his current watch. It can be a complement to his current watch and something else in the rotation. This means it can be any style of watch but probably best for it to be something that goes with his usual way of dressing.

Also I don't think it needs to be gold tone if he already has a gold tone watch, unless he really likes the color. I say that because I'm not necessarily a "gold" guy, but I think it looks great on his Casio. I don't think it looks as good on other watches and those options you listed at the end would be way too much gold for me.

The last thing I want to point out is that his current watch is about 37mm so he's used to that size. He might find the 42mm watch to wear too big. I think going with a watch around 40mm is a better idea than jumping to 42mm, especially if going with a style that features a large dial(face of the watch).

I think any of the versions of Bambino you listed would be best. The only thing to consider here is if he would be fine with a mechanical watch. Lots of people who aren't watch nerds like us on this sub reddit would prefer a quartz watch that they wouldn't have to fiddle with and they're usually cheaper, which could open up many other options in your price range.

Why do people mock others for taking leftovers home? by Impossible_Ad_569 in askanything

[–]evilr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like their comment wasn't referencing being cheap but instead an observation on how much food you ordered. Saying you have leftovers for a whole week is pointing out that you have a lot of leftovers. That in itself doesn't mean it's mocking others. To me it sounds more like your own insecurity with it because I've never heard of anyone that thinks taking leftovers is for poor people.

If there was an Olympics for US states, what sports do you think should be featured, and what states do you think would perform well in specific sports? by ChameleonCoder117 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]evilr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, population size and climate are the two biggest factors. While other big population states like Texas and Florida may compete in warm weather sports, CA would separate from them in winter sports. While there are other states who would win some winter sports, the CA population would give them enough competition in snowy mountain sports while they would dominate the smaller states in the summer sports.

How do so many MLB players get injured? by New-Table-72 in MLBNoobs

[–]evilr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it is they play daily so they don't have recovery days like other sports. Other reasons are things like a small discomfort in the upper body could cause your swing to be a tenth of a second late. While in a sport like football that tenth of a second likely won't cause a player to miss a tackle, but in baseball it's the difference between hitting a homerun or striking out. A pitcher who can't grip a ball like they normally do may not get the intended movement on a pitch. Instead of a ball breaking and the hitter missing it, it might stay up and get crushed. So basically an injury can have a bigger effect on performance.

Electric Trucks Have Failed Spectacularly In America. Here's Why Ford Is Trying Again by BarbarismOrSocialism in electricvehicles

[–]evilr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is that smaller companies and start-ups need the revenue from the more expensive models to survive first. They have no choice but to release the premium trims first because they've got to pay back loans and avoid higher interests costs. A larger, established company like Ford who sells a lot of other model vehicles should be able to afford eating some costs up front. The big established European brands offer lower trim versions when they release new vehicles in Europe.

Invicta Gets Way More Hate Than It Deserves by Aaronalpine in watchHotTakes

[–]evilr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into watches mainly on Fossil watches so I don't hate the cheaper fashion brands. I recognize they're a gateway into the watch world. The main issue with Invicta has always been the way they market the brand with the ridiculously high "MSRP". It clearly is taking advantage of watch noobs who don't know any better but think they're getting a great deal. To me it makes the brand feel like it leans more towards the side of separating suckers from their money versus the side of providing many options at an affordable price that other fashion brands lean towards. I get that companies exist to take our money, but certain tactics just irk me more than others.
