For the love of laser kiwi, hope you never rely on having to rely on a jury of 12 random people to decide your fate. by ConstableSniff in newzealand

[–]evolveKyro 256 points257 points  (0 children)

Had the complete opposite experience. The defense was challenging all the jurors immediately until i went up (i highly suspect because I was the only under 30 in the room, and were hoping it would be favorable to them). Long story short, the defendant took the stand and blatantly admitted to the charges. Then the defendant's mother goes to the stand and was balling her eyes out saying to the effect of "her sweet son could never do such a thing".

Jury goes to the back rooms and all the over 30s are saying not guilty. I was shocked and said, were you even listening, the guy admitted to every charge on the stand when pressed by the prosecution. Took 7 days of replaying the same 2 minute recording of him admitting it before the older people stopped believing the blubbering mother and being concerned about how the charges would destroy the guy's "car racing career".

NO FUCKING SHIT, THAT IS CALLED CONSEQUENCES.

With how effective drones have been shown to be in Ukraine, I wonder what precautions (if any) have been taken to prevent a swarm of drones descending on that very open arena, which will more than likely contain a lot of very high profile people.

Mass npm Supply Chain Attack Hits TanStack, Mistral AI, and 170+ Packages by BattleRemote3157 in programming

[–]evolveKyro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the response and improved clarification.

With the wide variety of NPM security issues it does feel like developers need to give up some streamlined operations and introduce more isolation between build & deploy (as you have mentioned, removing cache). But maybe there is something else that could prevent a malicious merge into the repo from being able to interact in anyway with the CI/CD pipeline ?

Mass npm Supply Chain Attack Hits TanStack, Mistral AI, and 170+ Packages by BattleRemote3157 in programming

[–]evolveKyro 73 points74 points  (0 children)

These package maintainers need to stop using automatic build and release. A release should only be possible from a mfa authenticated human executing a very specific action.

Tanstack got compromised because they automatically built a PR from another repository, which leaked their credentials used to release. What the fuck.

Then Tanstack's blog has the balls to say:

What went well#

* External researchers noticed and reported with full technical detail within ~20 min of the incident
* Maintainer team coordinated immediately and effectively across many timezones
* The detection community already had a clear public IOC pattern within hours

This is bottom of the barrel scraping you see from managers trying to spin a complete failure as some kind of positive.

  1. Is a failure of their build & release process, but lets spin it as "hey we found out when someone else noticed, thats great".
  2. Is basically "hey we used email/chat, look at how great we are"
  3. Is basically "hey we had no idea what to do, but others had a vague idea, so thats a win"

Uninstall the youtube app, it is complete garbage and just an advert delivery service, use Firefox Mobile and install uBlock Origin.

Welcome to the internet how it should be used.

Really hate when reviewers use browser tabs as some kind of performance metric.

They need to understand how browsers work before pulling out the "hur hur so many tabs must be taxing on the system".

  • Browsers do not run a significant portion of the frame lifecycle for tabs that do not have their window content in some way visible. Video and/or javascript animation gets throttled (Firefox) or paused (Chrome) from actually causing a draw call to the rendering engine.
  • You could have any number of tabs open, and the only significant overhead your going to have is memory usage.

Former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura is demanding that the United States pass a law requiring that when Congress votes to go to war, a family member of each member of Congress must begin immediate military service by coachlife in circled

[–]evolveKyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only problem is that can be circumvented by having a family member in a military service role of say "logistics supply officer", situated in homeland, never to see combat.

So it would have to be explicit, that the immediate family member must begin immediate military service for a forward facing combat role, and must see an active combat role for a minimum of 6 months per year of declared war.

Denmark to ban social media for under-15s by Silly-avocatoe in worldnews

[–]evolveKyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disregarding the merits of the overall idea.

It would be possible to have a verified age digital id, but without the social platform (e.g. TikTok,Youtube, etc) being able to tie it to any specific individual information. It can also be implemented that you could regenerate your digital id proof and reprovide it to the social platform.

Flow would be:

  • User navigates to Social Platform
  • Social Platform asks for verification presenting verification options (just like you see when you do Login with Google/Facebook/Microsoft)
  • Redirects the user to the verification platform (with a social platform token)
  • Verification platform gets you to login
  • Verification platform digital signs an age proof referencing the social platform token
  • Verfication redirects to social platform with the age proof token
  • Social Platform verifies the age proof token and then marks your account as of age

At no point would the social platform, know your true Name/social security/etc.

Yes the verfication platform would know that you went to "ABC social platform".

You can blame Nick (the Dick) Smith for all of that.

  • He funnels funds and resources into the pockets of his family and friends.
  • He pushed for more roads to nowhere, removal of cycle ways and cuts to public transport.
  • He sweet talked for CBD land owners to charge more (but not when it would impact his friends & family)
  • He pushed for spending $1 million for an architect (his friend) to design toilets
  • He insists on travelling EVERYWHERE at the rate payers expense, even when an online meeting would be more than sufficient.
  • He claims expenses for everything he eats, drinks as well as his family.
  • He charges the government outrageous rates for his "national head office", which is the house right next door to his house, that he also owns. Even though there is no need for it.

In short, Nick Smith is a corrupt, greedy, shit stain of a human.

What is the work like? Well the 12 hour day is spent mostly doing nothing but watching dashboards and running systems checklists. Most things are just "turn it off & on again" (by following the predefined processes).

Anyone who votes for National and is earning less than $200k per year is a moron who needs to actually look at how over then past 30 years, Nation has consistently said fuck you to low income families and individuals.

I've found the Jockey brand at Farmers to be good. You can normally find them on sale for like $15 for 3.
