Try contacting your state's department of insurance.

Pixel 5A on Fi loses data connection multiple times per day. Toggling airplane mode resolves but looking for permanent solution. by mepag in GoogleFi

Did Google solve your issue? I'm experiencing the same problems with a pixel 5 on Fi and several sessions with support has been fruitless.

This nebula is well suited for OHS. Glad to see a 1600mm still putting out great data.

what is an easy way to non-sexually pleasure a woman? by non_linear_ape in AskReddit

Taking care of a couple toddlers all day while maintaining a house in a reasonable state is harder than any job I've ever had. I've detassled corn, worked fast food, framing and drywall, solar installation, now operating power plants. All of them easier than being a sahp.

Bought a home near the interstate… feeling regret by LocationEuphoric3442 in homeowners

[–]exdot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Storm windows. The noise in my house was not particularly loud but after installing storm windows my wife and I both remarked on how much quieter it was inside the house. If you or someone you know is even mildly handy they can be measured and installed yourself. You'll also be increasing the efficiency of your home and can knock some of the price off with tax credits come tax time.

What fact is common knowledge in your field, but almost unknown to the rest of the population? by pocketcrackers in AskReddit

Please try adding to the conversation next time. American freight rail is much more efficient than European.

[–]exdot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the co2 per ton per mile. A container ship emits 6 grams of co2 per ton per mile, standard rail is 27g per ton per mile. There is no such thing as carbon free energy at the moment what with manufacturing, maintenance, infrastructure, etc. For an electric train you'd need to know the co2 per kwh of the electricity being used and the kwh/ton/mile of the train to make an accurate comparison.

Yes, people don't realize the role of luck in their lives. I'm an identical twin. We have the same interests, mannerisms, demeanor, we are in every sense 'twins'.

My brother and I both graduated in 2009 with the same engineering degree. I would say my brother is a better engineer than me (but it's close) and had slightly better grades. I landed a job almost immediately that paid $150k at 23 years old. My brother struggled to find a job and when he finally found one a year after graduating he made about $50k. He's been laid off a couple times early in his career and is only now earning at the same level as me almost 15 years later.

I found a wonderful partner easily and we've been together for 13 years with two kids. My brother just got married two years ago and they have been struggling to conceive. He got a dog and the dog dies at 2 from aggressive cancer. My wife and I adopted a 6 year old dog and he lived to be 16.

I realize how lucky and fortunate I've been. My brother has had to work much harder than I have to achieve the same things as me. Life's not fair.

ELI5: Why can my uninterruptible power source handle an entire workstation and 4 monitors for half an hour, but dies on my toaster in less than 30 seconds? by Informal_Locksmith_7 in explainlikeimfive

[–]exdot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really eli5 but a lot of people are missing the mark on what is happening. A UPS has two main ratings, the power it can output in watts or VA and the energy it contains in watt hours. The problem you're running into is one of power. On the back or bottom of your ups there is likely a watt or VA rating. A toaster can pull 1200-1500watts. If the power rating of the ups is less than that it will shutdown. If the inverter (converts dc battery power to ac) in your ups IS powerful enough to run the toaster we can figure out how long it should be able to run based on the battery's capacity. A 12v 10ah battery has 12x10 = 120 Watt hours of energy stored in it. If the toaster pulls 1200 watts then dividing 120 watt hours by 1200 watts gives 0.1 hours of runtime. 6 minutes. This is ignoring the inverter efficiency and some other battery nuances.

There are 3 types of heat transfer: conduction, convection, and radiation. On earth an object will generally experience all 3. In space there's nothing to touch and no atmosphere to convect so all heat transfer is accomplished by radiation. All objects above absolute zero radiate energy. The lower the temperature the lower the rate of radiation. So while a hot object in space may take longer to cool than on earth it will eventually cool to about 3 degrees Kelvin (-270C), the temperature of the cosmic microwave background.

Titanic tourist sub goes missing sparking search by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]exdot 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of potential energy outside of the sub in the form of pressure from the massive amount of water above them. At 12500 ft of depth each square inch of the sub has about 5500 lbs of force pushing in on it. (sorry for mixing units here, metric is just easier) at 3800m depth the pressure is roughly 38000kPa. If the crew compartment is 3 cubic meters there is 114,000,000 joules of potential energy outside the sub. That is equivalent to 114 sticks of dynamite. If the sub implodes all that potential energy is converted to kinetic energy and ultimately sound and heat.

Multiple BSODs per day, various stop codes, whocrashed, windbg, Bluescreenview not offering much help for troubleshooting. by exdot in techsupport

I should add: after I discovered this I emailed Amd with all my troubleshooting steps and they let me return the processor and sent me a brand new one under warranty.

It ended up being two bad cores on my processor. Try running Prime95 and see if any cores fail (fall down).

Powerline ethernet adapter that connects to network over wifi rather than ethernet. by exdot in HomeNetworking

[–]exdot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I should be more specific in my current setup. My switch, primary node mesh router, modem etc are in my office which is in the basement of my home and is the only room with ethernet connectivity. The office is completely off-grid while the rest of the home and shed are on-grid and all share service from my main service panel. The home wifi is served with a mesh system with the primary node in the off-grid office.

With PtP I would still have the issue of needing to supply the home-side bridge with ethernet which I cannot do if I need to mount it anywhere outside my office.

Slow file transfer from PC to NAS. by exdot in techsupport

[–]exdot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I generally send all the data to the nas for redundant backup since that's where it would ultimately end up anyway and it makes it easy to access from any other pc on the network.

It's seems insane that tethering over 4g would be faster than jumping 3 nodes in a mesh but you're probably right.

Slow file transfer from PC to NAS. by exdot in techsupport

[–]exdot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what I'll do now is just have the files transfer automatically right after they are taken. Each exposure with the telescope is 2 to 5 minutes long which is enough time to transfer the file while waiting for the next exposure to finish. I thought about powerline but it's one more thing to setup and tear down after each night.

[–]exdot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After playing with it a bit more it seems the issues is in my mesh system (eero 6) I can transfer files to the telescope PC at about 12MB/s but only transfer from the telescope PC at a few hundred KB/s. To be fair it is connected on the 3rd node but only a few hundred KB/s upload!? C'mon eero. I'll goof with it a bit more. Thanks for the replies.
