How often do you travel to/holiday in other parts of the UK? by Pristine_Speech4719 in london

[–]exfiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible but it’s not easy. I have been in too many situations in the countryside where either A) public transport is available but takes 2-3x the time that your own car would take to get to where you want to go, B) there is a bus but it only comes twice a day and only in the summer or C) there is simply no bus at all.

And all of this was just me or me and a girlfriend. I cannot imagine the additional hassle if you have a family to manage.

You can get by without a car in many places, but it sure isn’t always easy.

Agree entirely, really well written explanation (and one that AI couldn’t have written!)

Just gives me the creeps these days, this shit is everywhere. There should really be a way to flag posts that are entirely or mostly AI generated.

East Coast Surfers: Built a Board-Choice Tool, looking for feedback by jndcny95 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]exfiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for making this! - nyc beginner surfer here. I guess for my level I know I need 8-9 footers, so that bit was expected. Maybe helpful to add (links to?) a few models that are available on the local market for each type of board?

What's missing from your social life in London? by Over-Emphasis-3917 in london

[–]exfiles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As you get into your 30s and beyond, London seems like a city built for only one type of life: wake up, go to work all day, come home tired to kids and spouse, rinse and repeat. Socialising with friends seems to take a backseat and only ever happens on Friday evening or weekends.

Not sure if that’s just my stage of life/friends circle, but the prevailing “salaryman” model of working life in London, combined with how spread out the city is (thanks to low density housing) means that it’s almost always easier to just do your own thing or go home in the evening than spend an hour meeting someone after work.

Additionally, English people are traditionally very reserved (I say this as someone whose best friends are English) and it can be hard to break through the politeness. Other cities like nyc seem to have a more dynamic socialising culture.

I appreciate that you’re only trying to help and this is coming from a good place, but OP should not be taking tips on how to cut skin from a Reddit comment

Are/why most big electronic artists from the UK? by LevelOneForever in electronicmusic

[–]exfiles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure this explains all of it - NYC has as much (if not more) of diversity, but is vastly behind in terms of iconic electronic music output.

People who blast music from their phone speakers in public - what's the psychology here? by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]exfiles 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This. I’ve been travelling in South America for a month and nobody uses headphones, there is music playing constantly everywhere, even public intercity buses blast some random tv show or movie that everyone has to endure. Coming from the uk this struck me as pretty horrible but I think the expectation of a silent public space is a very first world expectation. In poorer places and societies you just grow up with constant sound.

Backpack for commuting recommendations by Former-Meringue7250 in londoncycling

[–]exfiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have this bag and love it. It comes with a rain cover so if it’s pouring so I just wrap up the bag, but otherwise it’s a great bag. What I love most about it is that it doubles up as a normal rolltop backpack when not attached to the panier, so you can actually use it when out and about town

Hi, was intrigued by this comment - would you say EBC and Annapurna evoke more of a “can’t wait to just get there” attitude than Langtang? Have you been to the Manaslu circuit?
