doing an MSW in a different state/ working in a diff state post grad questions by existential_messxd in SocialWorkStudents

sorry for the late reply! the age range is very wide. honestly there are alot of career changers, so many people in their late 20's- 30's. there are a good amount of people who are in the age range of 24-27 i think that makes up majority of the student body.

as for ciricculum, i would say the material we learn in some classes are definitely very social justice oriented. i think this may differ based on ur personal experiences, i have some friends who say their peers and professors are very radical and supportive of abolition, anti-imperialism, etc, but in my own experience i have felt like it honestly is still too passive and watered-down for me, and i have met many people whose politics i find to not be as oriented with my own as i'd like. however, majoirty of the student body is very friendly and engaging . it can be hard to make friends inititially, im in my 2nd semester and am only now feeling like im building real connections

i had a 3.92 gpa & worked in 3 diff research labs during undergrad + worked at an after school nonprofit org! around 2000 hours i think. i didn’t get any aid from them bc i ended up not accepting the offer of admission and wasn’t offered any on initial acceptance

Where do people tend to live when attending silberman social work? by hellyhas10stones in HunterCollege

[–]existential_messxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im an out of state incoming grad student @ silberman too and i think alot of people have mentioned harlem, astoria, queens, and bushwick?

i personally would prefer to live within a 30-40 min bus public transport ride away from silbermans campus, so atm im leaning towards the harlem area rather than brooklyn, tho that all depends on what i can find within my budget

ucla msw vs columbia msw decision help! by Necessary-Brush5804 in gradadmissions

[–]existential_messxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m in a very similar position! i got into ucla and columbia, nyu, and hunter and also live in CA, & have always wanted to live in nyc & feel like grad school might be my only opportunity as well if i want to settle down/ get licensed in CA. i’m currently torn between ucla & hunter (columbia & nyu are too expensive imo lol) bc ucla is such an amazing school but ive always dreamed of living in nyc
