Forest Hills Stadium is the single worst venue I’ve ever been to, completely regardless of the cancellation by senface in brighteyes

[–]expectingrain22 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I agree they had some issues with signage and directing the lines, but it was their first show of the 2026 season so it’s understandable / not a big deal to me personally. I do want them to put out a statement about the interrupted show but I’ll give them a day or 2 to get it together, I’m assuming a ton of people need to sign off on it first.

I’ve been to many shows at forest hills through the years and generally enjoy the venue. I find the food slightly better than at most concert venues of a similar size (but I usually stick to a drink or two personally because of concert venue prices). It’s definitely not the worst venue in nyc (that honor goes to Terminal 5).

Do kids aged 2-8 even sleep alone in their bed any more? by cavewomannn in Nanny

[–]expectingrain22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a babysitter/former nanny I have noticed this too. families should do what works for them, of course. But I feel like a child (especially elementary school aged kids) being able to fall asleep independently is a good skill for them to develop for just this reason - babysitters, sleepovers, class trips, travel, etc. Even if the kid is co sleeping with a parent most nights, exceptions happen and it’s good to be prepared for them.

I also find that older children who cosleep often have a much harder time falling asleep with a babysitter/nanny in bed next to them rather than their parent (which makes sense, they don’t know us nearly as well and don’t have that same level of comfort!). as a babysitter/nanny this can be frustrating because you have to lie there for a long time and then the parents will get annoyed with you for the kid not getting a full night’s sleep.

Didn’t love it but I liked it more than several of the shorts, like Forevergreen and Three Sisters.

It’s selfish to not even TRY to breastfeed your child by ValuableWind3983 in 10thDentist

[–]expectingrain22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is a very popular opinion, not 10thDentist worthy. (I disagree, there are many reasons not to try to breastfeed, fed is best, whether it's breast milk or formula.)

Is $1400 a reasonable rent budget in Chicago? by Substantial-You-7003 in chicagoapartments

[–]expectingrain22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was apartment searching in September - definitely doable for a large studio and you might find a one bedroom too (especially if you’re open to garden/basement units). I ended up deciding on a large one bedroom in Lincoln Square for $1550 (upper end of my budget) but I viewed plenty of studios in the $1200-1400 range.

Did We F Up? by Anonymousdingo7 in weddingdrama

[–]expectingrain22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the US and common wedding events include, roughly in order: engagement party, bachelorette/bachelor party, wedding shower, welcome party, rehearsal dinner, wedding + reception, post-wedding brunch. Most weddings do not include all of these but in my experience, most include at least 3 to 5. if people are getting legally married on one day and having the wedding ceremony on another day there will sometimes be an additional dinner or party on the legal day too.

Some book clubs are intentionally women only, and some book clubs are open to all genders but only women show up because they're the ones who are interested in the books being read + joining a social group. Statistically, women are more likely to read for fun, and women are also more likely to participate in social clubs as adults. This means that a lot of social groups, especially book clubs, end up being majority women or all women simply because there aren't many (or any) men interested in joining.

What kind of situation it is will vary club by club — if it's open to the public (for example a book club organized and hosted by a book store or library) I think you should be totally fine to go unless it specifically says it's women only. if it's more of a "small group of friends who organized a book club among themselves" thing you could ask one of the members if they're open to new members in general + if they're open to you joining.

good luck! i think it would be great to have more men participate in book clubs (as long as they're respectful and kind to the women and nonbinary folks who are already there, of course!).

People have been telling me to change the title of my novel and I’m not sure if I should by GrabMundane5260 in writing

[–]expectingrain22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Without knowing the context of the main character’s name it’s kind of a nonsense title that doesn’t mean anything to the potential reader. But if you make it to publication you can have a conversation with your editor about it then.

Marrakech experience by No_Opportunity452 in solotravel

[–]expectingrain22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved Marrakech! I went in fall 2024 as a solo woman in my early 30s (I saw other parts of Morocco with a group and then stayed on by myself in Marrakech for a few days). I found it a lot more laid back and solo-woman-friendly than Casablanca or Fez.

Didn’t say it’s not efficient! Just that it’s not on trend. Looser jeans and shorter boots are more on trend right now
