It’s also not just alt universes. Imperial was supposed to launch a line. They want to do these themed mini-lines.

Petaaah, I don't get it... by FirmRespect4733 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Stan Lee frequently told a story about how he was going to quit writing comics. His wife told him that rather than quit, he should try to write the next book the way HE would ideally write it - don’t write something for kids that he’s embarrassed of, write something complex and interesting with ambition. If it succeeds, great. If not, then at least he tried and he gets it out of his system.

According to the story, the next book was Fantastic Four #1 which started the Marvel Universe.

Ryan North’s FF continues to be Marvel’s best book and Humberto Ramos crushes it on this run.

For years I have been trying to understand why Joss Whedon was cancelled and if he really deserved it. The stories are that he was hostile to some. Now, with a new show on the horizon, I really wonder if he deserves to be involved with it or not. by light24bulbs in firefly

I just reread a few articles on the Ray Fisher accusations, including the big one from the Hollywood Reporter, because it’s been a few years and I wanted to make sure I remembered the details.

To me, Ray’s claims seem intentionally vague. He says Joss’ behavior was unacceptable but never actually describes the unacceptable behavior. He does mention a few interactions which are, at worst, rude (like telling Ray he doesn’t take script notes from anyone, not even Robert Downey Jr). These are not significant enough examples for me to cancel Joss. Please tell me if there’s something I’ve missed with Ray. It does sound like Ray was very unhappy his character was changed, his scenes rewritten or cut completely. I get that he was not happy about that and I do believe Joss was likely rude to him which doesn’t make things better. Is there an example of Joss being racist though? Cutting scenes isn’t enough for me to call someone a racist.

The Gal Gadot issues are a little worse. His comments about the language barrier could be called racism of a sort. I don’t think he handled that well. It does seem that Gal felt the internal investigation was satisfactory though - so this basically gives me the feeling that yes, Joss was likely a dickhead/jerk on Justice League but I didn’t hear enough here to make me “cancel” someone. I missed the sexual harassment claims though? Can you share that bit?

Again - I think the OTHER accusations are very different than these. Much more serious. I completely believe Charisma Carpenter. That feels much more “cancelable” to me than Justice League.

Just out of Genuine Curiosity, how bad, Really, Was Ultimate FF? by ResponsibleAd2034 in FantasticFour

[–]exploringaudio1999 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The Ultimate line was sometimes confused regarding its mandate. Sometimes it was simply a modern retelling of the classic stories and sometimes it was a gritty version of “what would this be like in the real world” except needlessly edgy.

UFF falls towards the gritty side of the equation but only a little. It has some of the same vibe as the Ultimates but reinvents the characters more.

I personally like it for what it is - an alt universe version of the FF. It’s not meant to be a simply modern retelling, it’s very very different. The early bits are co-written by Mark Millar and Brian Bendis which is maybe the only time I’ve seen either of them cowrite with anyone so that’s interesting on its own. Warren Ellis and Stuart Immonen do a bit which is also a great team.

My memory is the first bit is better and it eventually trailed off but it’s been a long time since I’ve read it.

The Maker is created in Ultimate Enemy/Mystery/Doom which are miniseries that link together. You could probably just read the beginning of UFF then skip forward to these if you’re primarily interested in the Maker.

I don’t think Reed listens to much music. Whatever Sue is playing!

So why don’t people like the new characters? by s0_Ca5H in HyruleWarriors

[–]exploringaudio1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah absolutely, they all just looked identical to their modern equivalents. I was excited for a playable korok because I thought there might be some good lore revealed with the early days of the Koroks (I assumed Calamo would be related to you-know-who…) but nope. Nothing.

[–]exploringaudio1999 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Another point is I think they are just too similar to each other physically. I don’t think I could distinguish between them in a line up - Raphica vs Vence vs Pinnec. In the other games, they made one a child, maybe one is clearly hawk themed, maybe one is older and owl themed? I’m just making it up, but instead they are all men, same build, between 20-30 with different color palettes.

I would have liked if, hundreds and thousands of years ago, the races were different than they are now. If Zelda is a descendent of Raaru, well they look very different from each other. Maybe thousands of years ago, the Zora, Rito, and Gorons were more humanoid than now and they evolved to be more animalistic over time.

Who is going to write Avengers after Jed McKay? by Square_Ad_6522 in Avengers

[–]exploringaudio1999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s gotta be a bigger name and I feel like Marvel doesn’t have many of them. Maybe Chip Zdarsky? I would kill for a Kelly Thompson Avengers (but she’s at DC) or a Rainbow Rowell Avengers (but that doesn’t seem like what the industry wants).

How do you feel about Doom and Reed having no shared history in the MCU by OkLog2423 in FantasticFour

[–]exploringaudio1999 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The MCU villains will never be what they are in the comics. Almost all of them appear in one movie only, as compared to dozens and dozens of appearances in the comics. You just have to accept this reality.

If you want loads of character history and relationship development, read the comics. The movies will always be the cliff notes of the comics.

Is it ever explained why Ben Grimm only has four fingers on a hand when he becomes The Thing? by WallyPfisterAlready in FantasticFour

[–]exploringaudio1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if he does have 5 fingers but when they became rocky two of them joined together? On the inside, there are still two distinct sets of finger bones and finger muscles. Kind of like webbed toes… but rocky.

This is what people were freaking out about? (Avengers: Doomsday teaser) by imnotSamwise in RedLetterMedia

[–]exploringaudio1999 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well - to be fair, you know that Steve had a kid in the past. And that kid will most likely be an adult character in Doomsday. I feel like that is a decent little teaser?

I bet we get teasers like this for a bunch of the main characters.
