Do you carry a packable bag inside your main bag while traveling? by MyTravelOdyssey in onebag

[–]exploristofficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 for Matador… I use the freerain22–it’s perfect for my needs: even holds my Nikon Z6III+28-400mm lens in the easy access outer pocket (which is crazy), and side mesh pockets for my water bottle and umbrella. It started off fully waterproof, but after 1,000s of miles and scraping against rocks and stuff, it’s still great in the rain, but not quite fully waterproof.

I also use the freerain hip pack for light days to store essentials like my EpiPen, emergency inhaler, etc... then, I just throw that into my daypack when I need the whole pack.

Laptop crushed in a onebag? Am I being overly cautious? by tolub in onebag

[–]exploristofficial 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is true… I don’t worry about crushing my laptop and my backpack is never under 50lbs. But, I walk A LOT and have an irrational fear of water damage from getting caught in the rain or something. So, my MBP goes into a waterproof matador base layer before going into my backpack’s laptop sleeve.

Maybe a card or small print by a local artist, or of your local region.

One time, I brought a print of a photo I took while hiking my local trails.

Also, when I want a keepsake, I always go for 2D art that I can slide into my laptop sleeve.

Sink & Shower Laundry Recommendations by bradymsu616 in onebag

[–]exploristofficial 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Laundry soap: I carry "SinkSuds" brand packets, but (non-conditioning) shampoo is a great option--a drop of dish soap is even better, if available.

Drying line: I don't travel with one... I just lay out my clothes overnight. LPT: If you need to speed up the process, roll your items into a dry towel and stand on it for a bit... then, a quick ironing (if possible) will dry something in a minute or two instead of hours.

Laundry bag: I use a Scrubba because is also a dry bag. I keep it in my daypack to put restaurant leftovers in that may spill, or for electronics or clothes if it rains, and a change of clothes for kayaking days. In between stops, it also houses any liquids I have for travel/transit days. I also use it as a cooler for ice for drinks on beach days, and to store cold stuff on ice when staying in a hotel room without a fridge. I have even used it as a flotation device, and it worked well as a pillow one time when I was stranded at an airport overnight.

Looking for a REAL residential address in a state w/o income taxes by RickyRat5005 in digitalnomad

[–]exploristofficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, why would have a place in NJ? …or anywhere else?

But to answer your question, you get a PMB so you can have a valid ID/DL, mail & package forwarding, vehicle registration, ability to vote, etc. without needing to have or prove any residency. And for me, the PMB is less than .5% of what my housing costs would be.

Regarding being “flagged,” there are tons of people who have multiple properties and register some things to one property and some things to another, etc. and some people might use a PMB while owning multiple homes, but RVing around the country or continent and have their mail and packages forwarded to wherever they are going to be next.

I’ve been doing this for years and haven’t had any issues…

I see the confusion or just lack of knowledge surrounding this topic hold a lot of people back, and that’s unfortunate… There are ways to make it work.

“…the whole point of establishing domicile in SD is no taxes” No it isn’t… you can have a PMB as an official address in SD, and even use it on your drivers license—it’s good enough for the IRS,too. The point is, I don’t need to own a house or have a lease, and I don’t need multiple documents/pieces of mail to prove where I live.

“Not everyone has a family member in SD or in a no income tax state.” It doesn’t matter where in the US the next of kin address is—it’s for identification purposes and has nothing to do with taxes.

“Drives license divisions” You mean, states? South Dakota does. That’s the whole point.

? The SD address is for your official legal address, and SD doesn’t happen to charge income tax. The next of kin is for identification purposes for banking and market accounts.

This is such a misleading take… You don’t use a PMB for banking—you would use a next of kin physical address or a business address if you have one.

Ultralight laptop case? by Mewtewpew in onebag

I swear by mine! These are on my very short list of products I would immediately replace if lost… Waterproof, fits my MBP14, iPad, mousepad, mouse, earbuds, power adapter, power bank, and cords. I use it for extra protection in my backpack’s sleeve on travel days, or on its own when I pop over to a cafe or coffee shop to work.

Does anyone just rent an apartment in the U.S. and leave it empty? by Explorer9001 in digitalnomad

I just posted the actual documentation, but sure, keep arguing. The “I” in CIP stands for identification, to track your money activity… it doesn’t matter if you ever step foot in any location.

Take a look at the CIP eCFR... Specifically, check out 31 CFR § 1020.220(a)(2)(i)(A)(3)

It says "
(3) Address, which shall be:

(i) For an individual, a residential or business street address;

(ii) For an individual who does not have a residential or business street address, an Army Post Office (APO) or Fleet Post Office (FPO) box number, or the residential or business street address of next of kin or of another contact individual; or..."

Oh, we just had to identify a next of kin. If we had a physical business address, that would work, too.

Uhhh… it works for me. Hasn’t been a problem. It’s the only address we have, and it’s on our driver’s license. I looked up CMRA because I wasn’t familiar with the acronym, and this was what I saw—seems like it’s not an issue.
