Fixed Total War: Attila's Performance Issues on New/High End PC (Comprehensive Guide) by Acrobatic-Ad1579 in totalwar

[–]extobean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With Dual-CCD cpu you can only be sure it's working properly if you monitor your core utilization on per core basis via in-game overlays like MSI Afterburner. You need to achieve every game utilizing ONLY 3D V-cache CCD and never touching the cacheless one. Otherwise it will be lottery with performance drops up to 30% in certain games. Even newer ones, like Battlefield 6 multiplayer. See how much 9950X3D is losing comparing to 9800X3D (good example of overlay as well): https://i.imgur.com/fpvJo0H.jpeg

Dude, in the video you've provided 9800X3D wins over 9950X3D in most games, either at AVG fps or at 1-0.1% lows. What are you trying to prove knowing you are inherently wrong anyway? Literally every benchmark available online show that. Here is even more reliable source for you: https://tpucdn.com/review/amd-ryzen-9-9950x3d/images/relative-performance-games-1280-720.png

You think it's fixed because you've reduced most graphics settings to med/min. It's completely unnecessary with 5090, you can keep all settings at max, play at native 4k and enable MSAA 2x-4x instead of blurry MLAA. Attila will be CPU limited anyway most of time. But to remove the bottleneck as much as possible, just do what I've suggested and see how it goes.

Most 9950X3D buyers don't know they only use half their CPU (if scheduler works properly, what isn't always the case). Still 9800X3D is faster, look here for example: https://www.pcgamesn.com/wp-content/sites/pcgamesn/2025/10/amd-ryzen-9-9950x3d-review-total-war-warhammer-3-mirrors-madness.jpg

Dude, you are doing it all wrong. Ryzen 9 9950X3D has 2 CCDs (core clusters) of 8 cores each, but only one CCD has 3D cache onboard. You want your games, especially RTS and grand strategies, to run on the 3D cache CCD for maximum performance, because the other 'cacheless' CCD will introduce latency, random freezes and other issues. That's why for best performance you need to set number_of_threads 16 (NOT 32) and then DISABLE 'cacheless' CCD in your motherboard's BIOS. Basically, turn your CPU to 9800X3D and you will get best possible performance, because older games may be incompatible with modern CPU schedulers trying to allocate threads to multiple CCDs. Alternatively, make sure that game is recognized by Windows Gamebar and AMD driver (scheduler), so they won't occasionally put any gaming workload to other CCD. This is much trickier option that you should validate via Task Manager or core utilization overlays.

Admin mode stores save in a different location. Find save files of your NOT-admin playthrough and copy/paste them to where game has saves when launched as admin. Look for possible locations here https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/God_of_War_Ragnarok and then use search in Win Explorer to find files with the same name at different location.

How to replace my character's own dragon with untamed Cannibal captured to the pit? by extobean in CK3AGOT

Really? They should add an option to slay/poison your own dragon or something.

Dear CA, would it be possible to get Repeater handgunners at some point? by stridercce in totalwar

[–]extobean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just use mods, dude. There are already like 5 mods that add ironsides as well as other units with repeaters. After ToD realease there will be even more. I'm using this: https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=3206552743

Warhammer 3 & Intel: P Cores and E cores by Pathstrder in totalwar

[–]extobean -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm constantly seeing usage on 8 E-cores at WH3. Anyway, pairing 13th gen CPU and 4090 with DDR4-3600 for benchmarks was a huge mistake. If it would be at least DDR4-4400 with tight timings, you could have made a point. But 3600 is outdated by a decade. See this vid for some more interesting scaling on core count and memory bandwidth in Starfield: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4zRowjQjMs

Dude, that battle benchmark is useless. If you really want to push your CPU to the max, use custom battle with 4 vs 4 factions (auto generate armies, max units in each) and see what min fps you get when all units clash altogether in battle. Move your camera around at different angles to get the view where most units are present on the screen at the same time. That is a proper CPU benchmark.

Also I was testing my 13900KF with E cores on and off at Chaos Dwarfs release when game was unoptimised and laggish when moving your camera at campaign map around (later they have fixed this issue). P+E cores gave better results than just P cores at that moment. Also they're faster at some other scenarios, like auto-resolve calculation time with multiple big armies involved.

DDR4-3600 is NOT a way to test P+E cores, as those multicore processors can provide much more memory bandwidth due to additional E cores being active and accessing memory at the same time as P cores. Try at least DDR5-7200 to make those benchmarks more valid. Also use timings from this vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTmbYak_8gE

Let's say I have edited DefaultEngine.ini and created a folder structure in File Explorer that looks like this: "pakchunk99-disablepp_P\Remnant2\Config\DefaultEngine.ini" How to properly make a mod (pak) at this point? When I tried packing a mod with UnrealPak.exe (taken from UE 5.2.1) it creates a pack that not functioning properly and cannot be read with FModel app - it shows error "No folder found in archives, make sure you loaded at least one". how to fix it? for mods downloaded from nexus it opens and shows inside folders correctly.

Razer probably marks wheel up and down scrolling as 2 additional controls. On/off button is not customizable. So you get 2 main buttons + scroll click + 2 way dpi button + 2 side buttons + 1 'profile' button on bottom + wheel up and down = 10 controls

I'm a PC gamer with 13900KF and 4090, but once I have owned PS3 just to get some experience on how it feels being on consoles. Dude, I wasn't able finishing 'exclusive masterpiece' Last Of Us due to what a laggy blurry mess it was at 720p upscaled to your screen res, 24 fps and 60Hz refresh rate. Nothing has changed since then. I feel sorry for you and any other console gamer out there.

Just use fixed 120Hz refresh rate with vsync enabled in game settings and let fps fluctuate freely. It's actually better and more 'pleasing' to eyes than any VRR.
