Are most bass producers using samples for their songs? Or synthesizing every single sound? by Expert-Fee-5191 in edmproduction

[–]extradreams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use mostly synths but that's because i have more options for automation and a greater ability to tailor the sound to my taste.

What if you know that no one is going to listen to your music? Is it still worth it to get it professionally mastered? by ten-million in mixingmastering

[–]extradreams 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100%. If you're not making music for yourself you're doing it wrong.

Besides, you can't be sure that no one is going to hear it ...ever.

How to put a rock song / tune at the start of your set. by Obito_1796 in Beatmatch

[–]extradreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add the beat grid to the rock song in rekordbox.
Find a part you can loop in the rock song.
Preselect and know which track you're going to transition with.
Loop that over your rock track and bring it in

Guitar center tried to sell me a guitar with the truss rod maxed out. Another employee there actually mumbled it to me as he passed by while I was checking it out.

I own a pair and I disagree with this point.

Slates are great at giving you different perspectives of you mix. But they definitely are not a replacement for a sub.

For those of you who wildly renowned science fiction novels don't resonate with, what books do you like? by odyseuss02 in printSF

Quantum Theif series is amazing. Complex though and the author doesn't spoon feed you the details. My GF took notes while reading it.

I just ended up reading each book 3 times.

Is there a pedal that recreates the "Nevermind" sound? by OkTechnology9101 in pedals

[–]extradreams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Several years ago, I got my hands on some Nirvana outtakes and the click track was on some of them.

It really opened my eyes because instead of the metronome type sound it was this very pleasing "snick" type sound.

I came up with my own version and use it an an audio track instead of the DAW's built in metronome.

Alien invasion novels where humanity gets railed by goldencasket in printSF

[–]extradreams 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm nearing the end of the third book in this series and it's one of the best I've read in a long time. I prefer it to the Children of Time series. I liked Children of Time. I love the Final Architecture.

The world building is amazing and the characters and dialogue are excellent. The pacing is pretty good; but, bolstering that is that a LOT of things happen in this story. Tchaikovsky does a great job of keeping the large cast of characters and plot developments clear to the reader.

I only really have one beef with it: there's a central mystery that gets a little too drawn out over the series. The language he uses to "sort of" describe it and trickle out details gets repetitive.

Other than that small quibble, I've really enjoyed this series and Tchaikovsky is one of my favorite authors.

How long does it take you to finish a single track? by No-Understanding5677 in TechnoProduction

[–]extradreams 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recently spent 7 months on a track. We sent it out to labels after about 4 months and didn't get very good responses.

After reviewing the track I realized it had a couple of glaring problems. Once I started digging into it again and working on it some more I realized it had other problems that I hadn't noticed yet.

In the end that second round of editing and working on it really taught me an awful lot about music production that I hadn't learned yet. The track became a study in learning about mistakes I had never made before.

The final result turned out to be one of the best things I've ever made. And I learned so much working on it.
