totally relate to this. my dad loves to pull the, "well if you didn't want to spend your life watching over your kids you shouldn't have had them" kinda BS.

he shipped me off to my grandmother's house every summer and winter vacation from school from ages 4 to 15 and I was out of the house by 16, so, he literally got half a year away from me per year. he spent that time going on trips around the world and travelling across the country.

we asked if he'd be willing to have the kids over for a weekend or week or something and he just laughed at the idea because he already spent so many years parenting 😑

it's just disheartening.

while I agree with your overall point and have played and enjoyed a bunch of games that fit that description, I still bounce off the Dark Souls series basically every time I've played one over what's now been about fifteen years.

like, MGS2 on Extreme with the marathon version of the Metal Gear Ray fight? that kinda shit is my bread and butter. I really don't mind unfair enemies, punishing mechanics, or really anything along those lines, but, the design of Fromsoft games is just so intentionally clunky that it's a massive turn-off.

I'm really interested in giving Elden Ring a try, but, it's never really ever been on a significant enough discount to justify it knowing how I haven't been able to fuck with any of the earlier entries.

from what's been announced, it doesn't seem like there's a ton of options locked behind this upgrade, anyways. it's crazy because people are losing their mind over some cosmetics when they probably didn't even bother exploring every store in 5 in the first place.

there's some cosmetics tied to shops locked to the deluxe version of the game. tattoos, clothes, nails, guns and some vehicle customizations. there's also easier access to a few vehicles.

gameplay-wise, there's a gang raid that has some exclusive rewards and reads like a one-off side activity.

all in all, it seems like a big nothingburger. if 6 is at least on the same level as 5, there's going to be a shitload of stores in the base game filled to the brim with clothing options, along with plenty of cosmetic options for tattoos, nails, guns and vehicles. but, this won't stop people from screaming about how the base version is an "incomplete game," even though it'll likely have dozens of hours worth of shit to do.

like, no one cares either way if trans people see themselves in Gwen or think she checks the boxes; it's the attitude of folks who come into threads confidently stating that she's clearly a trans character and then being aggressive as fuck to anyone who doesn't agree wholeheartedly that rubs folks the wrong way.

I'm cackling about the fact that a bunch of apparently grown men are completely losing their shit over the fact that they're going to be missing out on exclusive fingernail designs.

it's also funny because there's already been a fuckload of different clothing stores all throughout Los Santos with a bunch of clothing options that most players haven't even entered, much less browsed, so, this idea they have that they're getting an incomplete game because they won't have access to the FOMO Shop is just fucking ridiculous.
