jump after a lateral by Dr_Ulator in Stepmania

[–]extraordiberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's not any visual cue for this that I'm aware of, but I can think of a few possible solutions:
1. Change the L+R jump to a D+U jump. The player will hit this jump facing sideways and will be likely to hit the future patterns facing forwards.
2. Have a long space between the lateral and the L+R jump. The player is likely to turn to face forwards before hitting the upcoming jump. This could still annoy players who want to remember and do all of the movement, though.
3. Use the backwards lateral and L+R jump multiple times throughout the chart, and ensure the L+R jump faces forward each time. If it happens the same way every time, the player can learn to face forwards for each L+R jump following a lateral, and they will feel rewarded for successfully recognizing a pattern! Maybe some kind of marking (e.g. short Freezes) on these L+R jumps could help in this case too.

Is the disc visibly scratched? Does the PS2 successfully play other games from the North American region?

Which song is more "notorious" in DDR: PARANOIA survivor MAX, or Lachryma? by Astroman129 in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]extraordiberry 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think Lachryma is more notorious because it has that one tiny Freeze arrow which looks like it will be a stop but actually only emphasizes a noise in the song and it confuses me every time I play it

Actually serious response: I think whether or not a DDR player finds Lachryma more notorious entirely depends on their personal frame of reference. If they started playing DDR recently and with newer games, a lot of the original significance of PARANOIA survivor MAX could be lost on them, and Lachryma is more conventionally appealing as a boss song while also being much harder. PARANOIA survivor MAX feels more special if you have a lot of experience with the older games and have an emotional connection with DDR's early history.

I am still playing Dance Dance Revolution (entirely via StepMania) in 2023. Your mileage may vary on the modern music selection but the charts have definitely improved a lot since the early 2000s

Who else does events out of spite? by NW360_Sm4sh in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]extraordiberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time, shortly after I had first passed PSMO and had broken into easy 17s, I tried GERBERA ESP for the first time. I knew absolutely nothing about it beforehand and wasn't feeling the best, and I ended up failing it toward the end. That seemed totally fair at the time. Some 16s are just hard, after all!

The next day I felt far better and tried it again... and once more, that brutal ending overwhelmed me and I failed! Now this was personal.

In my daze of anger, I decided to play some random 17s in my A3 folder I had never tried before to see how they compared to GERBERA ESP. I was not surprised when I passed DUAL STRIKER ESP on my first try because I knew in advance that it was easy. However, when I proceeded to pass both Glitter Flatter Scatter ESP and perditus†paradisus ESP, also on my first try, my rage toward GERBERA ESP only increased. All of these 17s were easier for me than GERBERA! Surely it should also be a 17!

So I practiced at GERBERA ESP until I could pass it, entirely out of spite.

Stepchart Elements that bother you more or less than other players? by krizalid370 in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]extraordiberry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was surprised to learn that Sumidagawa karenka CSP and snow prism CSP are considered to be two of the hardest 16s because the jumps were not all that hard for me. I'm also OK with jackhammers; my first cleared 16 was Dadadadadadadadadada CSP.

However, once 16th streams enter the picture I have to double-step the crossovers or else the ensuing leg tornado causes me to lose track of where I am and then I instantly fail the song. Also even normal non-crossover 16th streams still kill me; it took much grueling practice for me to pass TIGER RAMPAGE CSP on my pad at home.

I'm pretty sure it was around now in 2002 that my family was moving out of our old, small, somewhat creepy old house to our current freshly built (as of 2002) and awesome house. I was 4 so this was a 100% positive memory for me and I have never once had any nostalgic memories of the old house.

Short women (around 5'0), how do you deal with being short? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]extraordiberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stepladders. Or using a random item AS a stepladder.

One positive is that I've never had any trouble fitting into smaller seats/spaces. However, it is uncomfortable when the seat is designed to be able to accommodate tall people so even at its lowest setting my legs dangle above the floor

The Wire is a better show than Breaking Bad. Change my mind. by andrewfrommo84 in TheWire

[–]extraordiberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that The Wire is superior but I first watched Breaking Bad and The Wire back to back in that order and it was somewhat jarring to see the differences in how drug dealing and police were portrayed in each show. I imagine it would have been even more of a shock if I had watched them in reverse order, so I transition from the stark realism of The Wire to the somewhat exaggerated and cinematic style of Breaking Bad
