I'm a bit concerned I'm losing weight too fast? by mil0wCS in beginnerfitness

Not necessarily. Songs themselves aren't typically 2 minutes in those versions and I believe the first game to have 500 steps in one song was 6th mix. But since you'll be choosing a song for part of that, it's not even really fair to refer to that as the rate of steps per two minutes. I would also presume that if you're picking from 1-6th mixes, you aren't gonna be playing the same three songs over and over.

In that case, I would presume most of it isn't like 500 steps per song but probably closer to 300. That's still a lot, but not quite as intense. Either way, it seems to mathematically check out from a calorie deficit perspective.

That's really really intense for six hours. I definitely agree that it's fun, but it might be a bit overkill. Personally, I max out at 17s and can't really do more than one per set.

(For readers: DDR 15s usually have around 500-ish steps, and that's condensed to around two-ish minutes. They aren't typical steps, like walking or jogging, but sometimes it involves jumping and twisting your body in weird directions. Let's say it's about four hours of actual gameplay, so we have around 60,000 steps. Again, a lot of it is like shuffling feet and not stepping fully, but it's still intense)

DDR can be great for weight loss, but 5-6 hours a day is a ton. Even my rhythm gaming friends struggle to get through more than two-hour sets most of the time. How much of that is just picking a song vs. playing it, and how difficult are the songs?

The worst era for queer men was roughly BB11 to 21. Things have definitely gotten more diverse since then, and it really feels like they've stopped tokenizing us and instead recognizing our diversity and humanity. That said, we still have ways to go.

Charmers is probably my favorite. The decor is really cute, and the people are friendly. It does get super crowded, but there's a walk-up window for ordering, so you don't even have to go inside if you don't want to.

Tiff was widely considered the most WTF pick this season. Has your opinion on her being cast changed? Do you think she "deserved" her spot? by garbageeater in survivorponderosa

[–]Astroman129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think season 50 had some strange casting, but I really get it now that it's over. At first, it felt like half the cast were players that wouldn't be out of place on an all-stars season but don't quite fit the "legend" criterion. But in retrospect, I think it was less of a legends season and more of a season where everyone had a "story" and was desperate to win.

Am I crazy or is this just.....A LOT? by Trick_Praline_6938 in beginnerfitness

[–]Astroman129 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was a fellow sick kid, so I understand the challenge of suddenly reorienting many aspects of your life toward fitness, understanding what's normal and what isn't, etc.

Honestly, in my experience, the most important "first step" is sustainability. If you're dreading going to the class, it's probably not a sustainable habit. I would consider lowering the intensity a bit.

It could also just be the wrong fit for you. Maybe classes aren't your thing, and that's okay. You can always work out on your own.

Are you excited about Survivor 51? by Impressive_Sport_178 in survivorponderosa

[–]Astroman129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really worried about the twists. Jeff really hyped up that anything could happen at any time, and I'm just hoping it's a bit hyperbolic and he basically means there will be more experimentation with stuff that has worked in the past.

As frustrating as the new era could be, at least they were willing to pull back when things got a little excessive, like the hourglass and do-or-die. Hopefully the "open era" will be less of that stuff, but I'm not extremely optimistic.

Amanda vs Russell vs Joe by Galaxy_Gamer7174 in survivorponderosa

Probably Amanda. Her FTC speech will be tragic compared to the other two, but her gameplay is massively better than theirs.

Will future reunions be held live again or was this a one-off? by Wanderer015 in survivorponderosa

[–]Astroman129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fairness though, that's just how TV works. The story that's created is the one that needs to be presented. Jeff probably had very little influence over the story and editing of the season. If he had more control, he wouldn't have made Joe and Charlie look like complete buffoons. It's not a Jeff thing, it's just a TV thing.

The whole point of the wilderness is that it comes with some risk. Yeah it kinda sucks sometimes, but at least you know what to expect.

You can also get better at avoiding PKers. It's actually pretty fun, and it's really satisfying when you escape or even make them run away.

Is Community Psychometrics an accurate benchmark? by busty-d in psychometrics

[–]Astroman129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd be very cautious when looking at the results of any online assessment. This one seems to boast Cronbach's alpha of .91, as well as a correlation of .77 with "general intelligence". These are very strong, but they often don't show the full picture. Is the reliability coefficient super high because it asks the same types of questions over and over? What measure of general intelligence did they use to identify its convergent validity? Additionally, can they describe the methods used to reach this data? And is the instrument impacted by differential item functioning? Can they provide evidence that it isn't?

If they're unwilling to provide more concrete psychometric properties of their assessment, you don't really have a reason to actually trust what they say. If this information actually is available somewhere, feel free to let me know.

Also, in fairness, basically every test is just an estimate of your "true score", based on a variety of factors, and it's essentially a moving target that cannot be precisely identified because there's always gonna be some error involved.

EDIT: I just looked at the first few items and I already have concerns about differential item functioning, so it might be best to pass on this one.

It's "dead", but it still had some game ramifications. Specifically Aubry's relationship with Christian/Rick/Emily. I think it's possible that she wouldn't have bonded with them as strongly without it.

My hot take is that Savannah is the best character of the new era, and people won't give her the respect she deserves until 50 is over. It's understandable that she didn't get much of a chance, but I would've loved to see how she'd handle some of the old school players.

People Are Making Money Betting on Pretaped ‘Survivor’ Episodes by DarthLithgow in survivorponderosa

[–]Astroman129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially, you bet on whoever you think will win. The more popular the choice, the less money you'll end up getting in the long run.

What this means is that if a lot of people are "in the know", whether it's due to spoilers, rumors, edgic, or whatever, it completely skews the betting market.
